I'm just a kid!
"I have to go, my mom just texted me to get home." Noah says.
"How are we gonna tell them?"
"I have no idea."
"Let's not say anything right now. We'll tell them together, but let's just wait."
"Okay."
"Are you gonna walk me home?"
"Yeah."
The walk home was awkward. No one spoke, and when they got to her house Noah didn't kiss her goodbye like he usually does.
"Noah?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you want this baby?"
"Do you want it?"
Kenley's eyes tear up and she nods.
"I do. I mean, do I wish things were different? Of course! But I can't kill it."
"I don't expect you to do that, Ken. What about adoption?"
"Can we not talk about this now?"
"Yeah.. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Bye.."
Kenley couldn't even eat, all she wanted to do was cry.
She laid in her room and stared up to the ceiling.
"I was so stupid to sleep with him! What did I think would happen? My life wasn't supposed to be this way!
I wanted to have babies with him, but not now.. I could never harm my baby.. but how in the world am I going to be a mother? I'm fifteen!"
***
One week later.
Morning sickness has kicked in, as if Monday morning couldn't have gotten any worse.
Kenley had been throwing up all morning, she felt so exhausted and so week.
This baby was already taking a toll on her body.
She went down to breakfast and the smell of food turned her stomach.
"Mommy?"
"Yes baby?"
"I have to get to school early today.. I uh.. I'm helping one of my friends with something."
"What about breakfast? You need to eat, honey."
"Dad made eggs!" Wyatt shouts just downing his food.
"Oh I'm not hungry, thanks though. I really need to get going."
"Well at east take a breakfast bar, you're going to make yourself sick!"
"Okay, I'll grab one."
When Kenley got to school she sat in the front with her head in her hands.
When Noah got there he saw her sitting alone.
"Hey Ken, you okay?"
"No.."
"What's wrong?"
"This baby doesn't like me."
"How do you know?"
"I've been throwing up all morning. I can't take it. I need medicine."
"I have Advil."
"I can't have that. I googled it and it can hurt the baby. Apparently the doctor can give me medicine for the nausea."
"We really need to tell them. You need to see a doctor."
"I know."
Noah gets a text message so he checks his phone.
"Looks like tonight could be our night."
"What?" Kenley lifts her head to look at him.
"My dad just texted me not to go anywhere after school, you guys are coming over for dinner."
Kenley inhales deeply.
"I guess this is it."
"Yeah.."
"Noah, I need to know. Will you be there for me? Will you be there for the baby?"
Noah took a pause.
Kenley's lips quivered and she looked down.
Noah wrapped his arm around her and pulled her closer.
"Of course I'll be there for you.. both of you. I'm just scared."
"And you don't think I am?!" Kenley shouts and lifts her hands.
"My body is already changing and the baby is just a little spec! I'm the one that will swell up, I'm the one that has to feed the baby, and has to give birth to the baby! Don't you think I'm terrified?"
"Kenny, I'm sorry. Of course you're scared.. I'm sorry."
"I just want to tell them so I can get the medicine we both need." Kenley grabs her bag and stands up.
Noah chases after her and takes it from her.
"I've got this."
"Thanks.."
After school their nerves were getting the best of them.
Kenley met her parents at the Huston's house.
They had dinner and both were pretty quiet.
"Gabby, I thought you were back in New York already!" Sarah says.
"Well I wanted to spend more time with my family, and since Noah will be finished with summer school soon, I thought maybe I'd wait a little longer before going back."
"How sweet!"
"Yeah.."
"I've really missed these little family nights we have." Jessica says.
"I know, so have I! You know what I really really miss? I miss when we would all take vacations together! We should plan one!" Sarah says.
"Oh that sounds so fun! We should!"
Kenley looks at Noah, then down at the table.
"Kids, would you like that?" Jessica asks.
"Hm? Yeah, of course!" Kenley fakes a smile.
Dinner ends and Noah walks to his parents.
"Mom, dad.. Ken and I need to talk to you."
"About what?"
"Just come here."
Kenley did the same and they all went into the next room alone.
"What's going on, you two?" Sarah asks.
Kenley has tears filling her eyes.
"Mommy.. Daddy.. I'm pregnant."
"What?" Sarah's heart drops.
"Kenny, no." Evan nods.
"You're what?!" Jessica's eyes widen.
"Oh lord.." Danny rubs his head.
"Kenley, you're not pregnant!" Sarah says.
"I am, mom.. I took a test and it said I was pregnant.. I'm like six or seven weeks now.. I was sick this morning, that's why I didn't eat breakfast."
"Oh God.. Why?" Sarah cries.
"Mommy, I'm sorry!"
Evan looks at her and leaves the room.
"Kids, this cannot happen! You are fifteen years old!" Jessica shouts.
"Will you stop it, mom! We know how old we are!"
"You don't speak to me that way, Noah!
How are you two planning on having this child? Who's raising him or her? How are you going to juggle school and a baby? Where are you going to stay? What kind of jobs are you going to get? This isn't a doll you're going to just play house with!"
"Mom, we aren't even old enough to have jobs! And obviously we know it's not just playing house! We've had a week to process this and we get it!"
"Oh you get it! Okay.. things are just so much easier now, huh?"
"Mom-"
"You should have kept it in your pants, Noah!"
"Jessica, calm down." Danny places his hands on her shoulders.
"Get off of me, Danny!" She pushes him away.
"Kenley, you're just a baby! You can't have one of your own!"
"But I am, mom.. This is so scary, but I need your support. Please!"
Suddenly they hear Evan screaming.
"Daddy!" Kenley jumps.
"I've got him." Danny says leaving the room.
Evan was in the backyard screaming and crying. He was so angry but yet so terrified for his daughter.
"Hey Evan, man it's gonna be okay." Danny walks out to try and calm him down.
"No it's not! That's my little girl, Danny! She's too young to go through all of that!"
"Evan, we'll help them out."
"But the pain of having a child.. Dan, what if Kenny isn't strong enough?"
"Evan, she'll be okay... they both will. Nobody wanted this.. but it happened and we'll deal with it."
"How can you be so calm?"
"Because what are we gonna do? There's nothing to do. The baby is coming and that's it. To me there is so much more horrible things going on in the world than having a baby. It's not like the kid will ever be starving. We can help them out if they need it. It'd be different if we didn't have to money to help."
"I understand that but the kids are just fifteen years old!"
"I know." Danny sighs.
"Still. You have to look on the bright side of things. You're gonna be a grandpa."
Evan huffs.
"I'm sure I'll eventually be excited, but it'll take a while, Danny."
"That's understandable. Now.. would you like a beer?"
"Sure, gramps."
Danny chuckles and pats his back as they walk into the house.
"What's going on?" Gabriella asks.
"Your brother and Ken are.. they're going to have a baby."
"WHAT?!" All of the kids freak out.
"I'll kill him!" John says.
"No, let me!" Gabriella stands up.
"Gabriella, stay out of it, please!" Danny says.
"I'm not going to!"
She marches in and stands between Noah and Jessica.
"Are you serious, Noah! You're fifteen! This is ridiculous!"
"Gabriella Danielle, get the hell out of here!" Jessica yells.
"No mom! How are they-"
"GET OUT!" She screams.
Sarah huffs.
"Fine! But this is stupid!"
"This is crazy! Kenley, you're not having a baby!"
"What are you saying, mom? I'm not killing my child!"
"Honey, you're just a child! Giving birth is extremely difficult, you can't do that at this age!"
"Don't tell her that, Sarah!" Jessica says.
"You are always trying to control me, mom! This isn't just a toy, this is my baby!"
"So what's gonna happen? You're going to go to school until you're nine months pregnant? What are you going to do with it while you're at school? It's not my baby!"
"Well if I have to I'll do everything online and take care of my child. Geez mom, have a damn heart!"
Tears fill Jessica's eyes.
"She's right, Sarah. You can't tell her what to do with her own child. No matter what they are both great kids.. I'm sure they can be great parents."
"Are you kidding me, Jessica?! Neither one can even take care of themselves!"
"If you really love me, mommy.. you'll love the life growing inside of me.
Even though it's making me sick and completely flipping my life upside down.. I still love it because it's mine and Noah's child."
Noah was just starring at her. It was weird to hear her speak this way. It was like she had already grown so much in only a week.
"I need you to be supportive, mom. I need to see a doctor and make sure everything's okay."
"Noah, what are you feeling? Will you help?" Sarah asks.
"Yes ma'am. At first I thought that maybe adoption would be best.. but um..No.
We're not gonna do that. Ken and I are in this together."
Noah grabs Kenley's hand and she gives him the smallest smile.
"Jesus Christ!" Sarah scoffs.
"We would like for you both to be there for us. It's very scary. We need our mom's through the most terrifying thing we've ever faced." Kenley says.
Jessica suddenly starts crying so Noah stands up and walks towards her.
He kneels down and places his hand on her leg.
"Mom.."
Jessica looks into his eyes with tears rolling down her cheeks.
"I'm sorry."
A sob escapes Jessica and she wraps her arms around him.
"I love you, Nugget.. you know that I do. You're my little baby boy and you'll have to grow up so so fast, honey."
"I know.." Noah says in a whisper as a single tear falls down his cheek.
Jessica wipes it with her thumb and chuckles.
"I guess you weren't playing when you said you wanted to be a daddy!" She says referring to what he said he wanted to be when he was younger.
"Heh.. I guess so."
**
Once Evan and the family left Danny went up to speak with Noah alone.
He sighs and sits across from him.
"How ya doin, bud?"
"Okay.."
"You wanna talk?"
"... I just wish this wasn't happening. I'm just a kid, dad!"
"Yes you are but you did some very adult things and a very adult thing happened. You knew what could happen yet you still chose to go through with it. This is life and this is what God has given you. You'll deal with it and struggle, but you'll be okay."
"How am I going to be a father? You were a great father and you always know what to say. What if I don't know what to say to it?"
"Well you got a girl pregnant, I couldn't have been that great!" Danny jokes.
Noah rolls his eyes and nods his head.
"Heh!
..Being serious, Noah.. you just know. When your child comes to you.. it sorta hits you. When you see their little face.. you just know."
"I'll never be as good of a dad as you are."
"Don't say that! You'll be great."
"We'll see." He chuckles.
Danny smiles then gives him a hug.
"I'm so sorry, dad." Noah began to cry.
He felt like he disappointed everyone.
"I still love you, Noah."
After speaking with Noah he headed off to bed.
He walks in and Jessica was slipping into one of Danny's t-shirts.
"Pretty hot for a grandmother!" He smiles.
"How can you joke about this?"
"Jess, what else are we gonna do?
Cry about it and stress over it? It's going to happen, there's no need in making yourself sick over it."
"Daniel, they're So young!"
"I know, Jess."
Jessica covers her face and breaks down.
"Honey, don't cry."
Danny walks over and warps his arms around her.
"Danny, we failed him."
"No we did not! We didn't fail anyone! It's all going to be okay.
Sure it's a mess now.. but think about it.. you'll have a grand baby!"
"I just don't get how you seem to be okay with this. It's not okay! He's a baby!"
"Jessica, there are worse things that could've happened! You could have cancer again, our son could be going off to fight in a war, we could lose a loved one! There is so much bad in the world to be crying over a baby! We will make sure they're okay. They'll both finish school and will attend college. Things will work out, Jess.. I promise."
Jessica looks at him with a pout.
"At least it's not us." Danny says.
Jessica couldn't help but laugh.
"That's true!
.. at least it wasn't us.." She mumbles.
"What is it now? Six more years till we star traveling the world together?"
"Well at this rate Ana will be graduating early so maybe five? Four if we really push her!"
Jessica laughs.
"I can't wait, Mr. Huston."
"Me either. We'll make hot passionate love whenever we want.. Come home on the holiday's to see the kids."
"Well of course I want to see them way more than that!"
"Jess, you'll see that baby, and totally cancel our plan to travel!"
"Heh! We'll see.. I'm glad I have you, Danny. I think I'd go mad if I didn't."
"I know how to tame my wild woman." Danny chuckles and holds her tighter.
Jessica chuckles and lays her head on his chest.
"I love you, Daniel."
"I love you more than jazz, Babydoll!"
"Give it a rest, Danny!" Jessica laughs.
