Epilogue
7 YEARS LATER
"Mr. Anderson," A man from the crowd raise his hand, "A question. What inspired you to make this painting?"
A man in a grey suit stand in front of a big painting. It was a painting of two silhouette of a girl and a boy, standing on the balcony as they stared at the moon. The man smiled, "Let's just say that it was based on a true story. Instead of turning it into a movie, I made a painting out of it."
Another hand raised from one of the crowds, "When did you started to paint that?"
"In high school. When I was seventeen." He answered.
"It's a long time ago," The same man said, "Do you consider that painting to be one of your first artwork?"
The man in suit shook his head, "No, I did paint when I was little. And I sell it to the neighbourhood. But if you ask if this was my first official artwork then yes."
"What do you call the painting again, sir?" The man asked again.
He smiled, "Two Figures under the Moon."
The questioner nodded his head alongside the others in the crowd. They walked to the next painting in the gallery while Kyle stayed on where he is, looking at the painting.
After he graduate, his father died from a stroke he was having. He gave his family ten million dollar as a legacy. But his mother refused to take it, not even a penny and said it will become a better use if both Jack and Kyle have it instead. And so, Jack used the money to continue to fashion design school and opened his own showroom. While Kyle used it to open his gallery in New York three years after he get the legacy. Much of surprise but he actually grew himself up to like the city.
It's the third year after he officially opened the gallery. It became one of the most famous galleries in New York. So many people have been walking in and out to buy his paintings. But the one he looked at right now was never sold. He didn't want to sell it because it was very personal to him.
While Kyle looked deeply at his painting, he felt a present of a person standing next to him. It was a woman. She looked fascinating in her coffee turtleneck and black blazer with plaid skirt. How her soft black hair hanging onto her shoulders She holding a camera that slowly reaching up to taking a picture of the painting.
Kyle's eyes widen and quickly came towards her to stop her action, "I'm sorry ma'am. You can't take pictures without any permission."
The woman stopped her action and looked at the painting embarrassed, "Oh god! I'm apologized. I thought I could-"
Her words stuck in her throat as her gaze stuck on Kyle. Kyle, too, lost in his mind when he recognized the woman standing in front of him.
It was Luna.
The eyes of the two connected for a pretty long moment before she shook her head and chuckled. Kyle felt a warm feeling as his heart beating in his chest when he heard a sound he really missed. Luna looked up to meet Kyle's gaze for the second time. Oh, how she misses those hazel eyes.
"Hi," she smiled sweetly to him. Showing off to him that she still, after all of those years, have the perfect dimples curved on her round cheeks.
He pulled himself a smile as he replied, "Hi."
Kyle, however, wondered how she still can recognize him despite all the change he had for the past years. He no longer wearing eyeliner. There's not a single piercing on him anymore. He dyed his hair back to his natural light brown colour. And, even though he sometimes still wearing dark clothes, he's not wearing dark clothes right now.
Luna let out a big grinned and Kyle had noticed the sweet gap teeth of her were no longer there, replaced with a line of nice teeth. She looked back at the painting before she asked, "Did you paint that?"
Kyle moved his gaze to the painting and smiled, "Yeah."
Her eyes met to the tile floor of the gallery. A sudden guilt filled in her chest. But she shrugged it off of her tried not to show it.
"Listen," She opened her mouth, hesitantly, "I feel like I owe you a lot of explanation." Her expression become more soften yet sadden as he noticed the quilt in her eyes, "Can we grab some coffee? My treat."
He sighed deeply as he searching around the room, observing. He could use one or two hours to break and let his assistant to take care of the gallery. After all, it's a slower day than usual. He turned his eyes back at the small figure in front him, "Okay. Let me tell my assistant first."
Luna put on the smile on her face hearing that.
--------------
At the café near Kyle Anderson Gallery, Luna and Kyle sitting on the outside. A cup of coffee, a slice of tiramisu, and a cup of tea looks on a table between them. None of them opened their mouth yet. When the waiter arrived at their table with the last slice of chocolate cake, Luna opened the conversation, "How's your day?"
How's your day, she asked?
Despite the inner disbelief within Kyle, he just gave her a small smiled, "Not bad, I guess." He pouted, and she nodded her head. "How's yours?"
"It was alright." She shrugged, "Although, on my way here, there's this old mean lady who lets out a string of cursed words at me just because I bumped her. And to be fair, it was actually her fault! She keeps her eyes on her phone!"
Kyle laughed at her small story, thinking that she still had the same spirit, "Oh wow. What a Karen." He laughed again after his last statement.
Luna snorted on her tea she was about to take a sip. She then placed her cup of tea on the table and roaming her eyes to the surrounding around her. She took a big deep breath before sighed it out, "Ah, New York."
Kyle watched at her eyes as it's stays at the city lights that was about to on slowly and the sun was already set. It took a whole minute before she looked away to him. He sent her a timid weak smile. Luna knows immediately that she shall not make him wait another year for the answers.
"Ten years ago," she started, twirling her finger on the edge of her cup of tea, "Before my family moved to Florida, I had this dream. I saw myself on the mirror. But it wasn't me. I didn't even recognize myself. And I didn't even know that I standing in front of the good version of me or worse, the evil version of me."
He watched her as he placed his arms and crossing in on the table.
"I woke up the next morning in a body full of sweat and chills. A few days later, I asked my parents a permission that someday, I will look for my own path on finding the true self of me. It took them a while to actually gave me permission, but they eventually understand how much this means to me."
Kyle still watches her as her hand hold her head on her chin. She sighed.
"And the day I left, I spent all of my savings for the past three years to go to Prince Edward Island. That's the place I really want to go so bad and I'm really glad I went there for the first place on my journey." Her eyes light up just thinking back at the memories. "And as you may or may not know, that is also the place where my dearest Anne Shirley-Cuthbert was grew up. I want to see if I can find the connection with that place as I am to Anne. And it indeed does. I'm in love with that place that I stayed for a whole year."
Luna leaned her back to the chair.
"And the next six years, I just travelled around the places I come up the last seconds. Nothing really happened except for, uh," Luna hesitated for a second but Kyle gave her a reassuring look, "Well, let's just say, I found a companion. I met him in Peru while I stopped by at Machu Picchu. We stay at the same hotel. And we realized that we both have the same goal, so, why not become a travel buddies?"
Kyle felt a jealousy railing up within him but he trying so hard not to showing it.
"But of course, the goal that collided us together, was also separated us. He wants to go there I want to go to the other there. We solved our problem for a while but the final end was called it quit. After all, we can't love someone else before ourselves, right? And at that moment, none of us did."
Kyle nodded in understand. He opened his mouth to asking the question he wishes he never asked, "But did you love him, though?"
Luna looked at her and chuckled, "Well, of course I did. But it's different. It's more like, in love with the idea of finding someone else who have the same destination as you but not with you. When we left each other, I actually kind of glad we did that."
Looking away in embarrassment, he smiled inside.
"Look," She continued, reaching up her hand to his, "I want you to know that it cost me a really heavy heart to left and leave you confused without any explanation. I really wanted to asked you to come with me after that night but I realized it will not end well. It's my personal trip only and you have different purpose of your life. I don't want any of us to regret that decision later. So, I guess, it's best for us to, like, find the true meaning of our goals on our own ways. And to be honest, I always knew I will meet you again and here we are!"
Kyle let out a small laugh and hers following after, "Well I guess New York is not bad after all!"
"Yes. Yes indeed." She agreed.
Kyle gazing at their hands that tied together. He brushed her thumb on the palm of her hand as he asked, "I have a question."
She smiled, "What is it?"
"Did you finally find yourself now?"
There's a long pause between them, making Kyle shifted. But after a few moments of silence, Luna gave the most sure smile she ever give to anyone and answer him;
"Yes, I did."
Their communicate with each other. Giving anyone but themselves a confused look if anyone was ever watching. They both know what that means and that gave both of them a shivers and also warm feelings.
After all these years, Kyle and Luna can finally be together, once again under the sight of the moon who shining on the dark blue sky.
