4. Falling
"I was born on July 22nd. So that makes me a Cancer."

Kyle hates school trip. He thinks it was pointless and waste of time. And you'll always get tired every time you came home from the trip. It's fun, yes. But Kyle's definition of fun on school trip was; napping, watching movies, and eating snacks, and basically all the activities he can do in his lovely hotel room.
Shirbertown High School decided to hold a school trip for the Juniors. They held them every year, and this time, it will be a 5 days trip to Manhattan. Cliché and classy New York. For Kyle, there's nothing interesting in New York. It's just a big city with so many buildings and cars. If it wasn't for the school trip, he wouldn't want to ask their parents a money to go to the city.
Another thing about school trip that he hates the most was that he had to wake up very early. Like this morning, he had to wake up at 5:30 PM, and drive to the school. He asked his mother to drive him, so he don't have to leave his white truck in school for the past five days. He felt grateful that he had packed yesterday. It would be a disaster if he packed this morning.
Megan's car stopped at the school parking lot where all the students are. There are four buses in total, and they just arrived. Megan gave his son a smile, "Do you need help unload the luggage?"
"No," Kyle said, "I'm fine."
Megan nodded, "Okay. Take care yourself, alright? Have fun!"
Kyle got out of his mother's car and open the car's luggage. He took out his suitcase and his jacket. He saw that his mother gave him a wave and so he gave her a wave too.
After he put on his jacket, he explored his eyes through the parking lot. He saw that most of the juniors are already in there. There are some teachers too, who got responsible at keeping the student stays in order. He saw that Elijah has just arrived to. His dad drove him with his step-mom. Elijah's step-mom is very caring. Every time Kyle hangout in his house, she always asked if they already eaten and would cook them anything they want. And she has a very good sense of humour too. It was like she was a real mom for both Elijah and Kyle.
A tap on his shoulder sent him back to the Earth. When he turned around, he saw Luna, who smiled at him. She was carried a suitcase and a backpack. Kyle's eyes looked her up and down. He saw that she was wearing a white blouse with black cardigan. She also wears a tennis skirt with a knee socks and a Mary Jane shoes. She put her hair in a half high ponytail with her teal scrunchie. She looked like one of the popular girls on social media.
"Got here already?" She asked.
Kyle chuckled, "Yeah." He looked at her behind. He expected a car or a parent will be there, but he saw nothing, "Where's your ride?"
"Oh," She said when she realized that he noticed she was alone, "I'm very fond of walking."
He wanted to ask further more question like how could she walk alone in the morning with a suitcase and a backpack or how she still looked fresh and gorgeous after that. But instead, he just nodded.
"Hey listen," she opened her mouth and start walking with him, "I was wondering who you sitting with in the bus? I barely know anyone here besides you and Birdy. But she said that she will sit with her boyfriend. So, I want to know if I can sit with you if you have no seat mate like I don't."
His heart beating so fast after hearing that. He even had to clear his throat and scratching the back of his head. He wanted to say yes so bad but he doesn't know if he can abandon Elijah since they always sit together on a school trip, "I, uh..."
Luna's brown eyes were sparkling in hope and looked directly at Kyle, making him nervous.
"Uhm," He lost his words. All of sudden, all the vocabulary and noun that remains stayed in his head just got disappeared. His tongue was locked in his mouth. He doesn't know what to say. He looked at Elijah at the other side of the lot. He was grinning happily knowing that Kyle was talking with his crush. After a long time of thinking, he finally said, "Sure."
She smiled at his answer, "Great!"
"Let me, uhm," his hand tried to reach the handle of her suitcase, "Let me put that in the luggage. You can get inside and find seats for us."
"Thank you so much." She thanked him and get in the bus.
Elijah sneaks to behind Kyle's and yelled at his ears, "Dude, what the fuck was that?!"
Kyle rubbed his ears at the sound of Elijah's cheers.
"Elijah, look. I'm so sorry to tell you this. But she just asked me to come sit with her in the bus and I don't want to sound like a bad friend but you know how complicated it is to see her puppy eyes like that and I wanted to ask you right away if you don't mind but you're so far away and I can't leave her hanging and-"
"Kyle, relax. What the fuck," Elijah stopped Kyle's word and laugh, "I wanted to ask you the same thing because Rebekah just asked me to sit with her too in the other bus." He then peeked to looked behind Kyle and gave a little wave. Kyle turned his head and saw Rebekah smiling and gave Elijah a little wave back.
"Thank god!" Kyle sighed.
Elijah gave him a reassuring smile, "Now, go get your girl."
Kyle nodded, and put in his and Luna's suitcases to the luggage. He said bye to Elijah and get in the bus.
When he got in, he saw Luna sit near the window on the seat in the middle row. Her eyes set to her book she read. When she saw Kyle, she smiled and leave a bookmark in her book, "Hey."
"Hey," He smiled and sit on the empty sit beside her. He put of his jacket and put it on his lap, "What were you reading?"
Her eyes followed his gaze, "Oh this? It's just a novel. One of my favourite novels actually. 'Anne of Green Gables' by Lucy Maud Montgomery."
Kyle eyes flicked as he realized he knew the book –or at least watch the show-, Wait I know that book! I didn't read it but I watch the show. It's, uh, Anne with an E, I think?"
"Yes!" she answered excitedly, "That show was the best! I watched it too and I love it. It's sad that they didn't continue to produce it."
He smirked, "Yeah, I must admit. It was a good show."
"Right?" She asked, "And, to be honest though, I relate to Anne in so many ways."
Kyle squinted his eyes curiously, "Really? Like what?"
"Yeah. Like, she's a daydreamer, right? She likes to imagining things, and I can tell you, my mind is wilder than hers. And, uh, she's also pretty sensitive, like me. She likes books, me too. And, uh, she can be very chatty at times, and be very quiet at other times. Overall, it's like she was destined to be my spirit animal. She is my kindred spirits."
"Oh, wow." He chuckled at her story. And he got an idea to tease her, "Well, she got Gilbert Blythe in the end."
"You're so mean, Kyle." She lightly pinched his arm, receiving a laugh from him, "Not fair that you said that to a girl who never have a boyfriend before."
Kyle stopped his laugh and widen his eyes in disbelief, "Wait what? You never have a boyfriend?"
Luna shook her head no, "Nope. Never had one."
"But how?" He asked, "I mean, you're so beautiful."
Shit, it's slipped.
Kyle saw a little red tint on her cheeks as she nervously said, "Well, thank you, but I'm not. At least not in the place where I grew up."
"What do you mean?"
She sighed, "You see, uhm, my mom was an Indonesian. He met my dad here, in America. Before I was in North Dakota, I was in Jakarta. I grew up there. And basically, the beauty standard in there was very different. They called my lips a duck mouth. Telling me my gap teeth need to be vented. Calling me a witch granny because of my dark eyes. And I grew out some serious insecurity about my curve."
"Oh my god, that was awful." Kyle can't believe what he just heard. All the perfection he saw in her were thing she got mocked off.
"No, no. It's okay." She said, shaking her head, "I'm sorry I ruined the fun by telling you that. Uhm, why don't we talk about something else?"
After she said that, he knew that it was hurt for her to bringing up the topic. He respected that. "What do you want to talk about?"
"I don't know," she shrugged, "What about our stars?"
"Our stars?"
"Yeah, I mean, zodiac stars. You know, astrology, horoscope."
He knew that stuff. He didn't want anyone else knew that he likes astrology. In fact, when he was in elementary school, he used to use a website to calculate how much compatible his sign with his crush's sign is. Not really something he proud to admit. But he wanted to know if she's like those things too so he decided to not tell her his zodiac sign yet.
"I don't know that kind of stuff to be honest." He lied.
"It's easy. You just have to know your birth date." She started to explain to him, "For example, I was born in July 22nd. So that makes me a Cancer."
Cancer? Interesting...
"Okay." He simply said wanting her to explain more.
"Yeah, so they said that, uh, Cancer's mostly compatible with Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio, and Pisces. And They did not compatible with fire sign such as Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius."
"Uh-huh."
Luna chuckled, "Well, what's your zodiac sign, Mr. Okay Pants? Or at least, your birth date if you don't know what your sign is yet."
He slyly smirked, "I was born on October 31st," He slowly leaned towards her, "What zodiac sign does that makes me?"
Kyle knew exactly what his zodiac sign is.
"Scorpio." She answered.
Correct, he said in his thought.
"Oh," He pretend that he just knew it from her, "Scorpio sounds cool." He said, pulling out his phone and earphone from his pocket, "You said, earlier, that Cancer was Compatible with Scorpio. How?"
Luna bit her lip and said, "I just knew the basic, but they're compatible because they're both Water Sign. Which means, they were very emotional. So, it's easy for them to get along since they're both pretty much matched."
Kyle nodded his head, approved. "That's cool."
He put an earphone buds in his left ear and give her the other one.
"Do you want to listen some music while we're on the road?" He asked.
She took the earphone buds and nodded. She plugged it in her ears. Kyle started to play 'Falling' by Chase Atlantic. They both enjoy the song, but when lyrics come, she started to humming to the song. Kyle noticed it and smiled in surprise.
"You know this song?" He asked.
"Yeah, duh. They're my men. How could I did not know their songs?" She laughed.
Kyle was surprise that a girl like her, have a music taste in such a different way. But maybe that's because the band was actually really good and can be enjoy by people from many types.
The bus started to drive as both Kyle and Luna sleep with their heads on top of each other.
