Age Twenty-One

"Jesus Jack, why did you take us out here?" I asked as we walked across the sandy beach.

"There have been sightings of Zygons here." Jack answered. Zygons were these weird aliens with sucker like appearences and they can take the form of a living creature. "So basically we are looking for doubles." Gwen said.

"Yep. Keep an eye out for anyone suspicious or two people that look the same." We all split up. Jack and Owen went to the nearby town, Gwen and Tosh stayed on the beach while me and Ianto went up these steep stairs to the top of the cliff that towered over the beach and the water. We got close to the top and Ianto forgot something. I wasn't really paying attention when he told me so I just waited for anyone or anything to come up. No one came up the stairs while I was there. Ianto finally came up the steps out of breath. "Took your time." I said.

"Well, I found what I was looking for." He said and joined me. "Want to see the very top of the world?" "Top of the world, eh?" I walked closer to the edge and looked down at the blue water. "It's very high up. At least the view is great." Ianto came to join me and I felt his hand on my shoulder. I turned around and his face looked so evil. "Are you okay Ianto?"

"Brilliant. Top of the world." Ianto suddenly pushed me backwards and I slipped off of the edge of the cliff. I was hanging by a branch that hung out of the cliff. Luckily Ianto couldn't get to me because it was out of reach from the edge. "Are you freaking crazy?!"

"No. Good luck trying to get back up by the way!" Ianto walked away and I was left hanging with my heart racing. Why would Ianto do such a thing? Unless... I took a chance and took one of my hands to talk through the earpiece. "Jack, I need a bit of help." I said.

"Why? Have you found the Zygon?"

"I think so. It's taken the form of Ianto and he pushed me off of the edge of the cliff. I'm only swinging by a branch at the moment and it's not going to hold. Also, I don't want any tourists looking up my dress."

"On my way. Owen go and find our Ianto and gather the team to find the Zygon."

I felt the branch snapping slowly and I knew if Jack didn't come in time I would probably be lying dead in the water below. My hands were aching and I felt them starting to lose their grip slowly. "Evelyn!" I heard Jack cry.

"Jack!" I called back. His head peered over the cliff.

"Nice to see you again."

"Yes. It would be even nicer if I wasn't hanging off of a cliff." Jack held out his hand for me to grab but I couldn't reach it. Plus I was too scared to let go. He had to lay on his stomach and reach further. "You have to try Evelyn. That branch isn't going to last forever." I stretched my arm further and tried to pull myself up but the branch started snapping. I latched onto Jack's hand with hand and was scared to let go of the branch with the other. "Evelyn, give me your hand."

"I can't."

"Yes you can. Just try." I couldn't. My arm seemed frozen. "Evelyn I can't pull you up with just one of your hands. Now hurry up." There was nothing I could do. But I had no fear in dying. "I'm so sorry Jack." He looked so confused but as I let go his eyes widened and I could hear him shouting my name. I rolled down the cliff but a lot of damage was done and finally hitting my head really hard made me unconcious and I think the impact of the whole thing killed me.

No ones POV

And that was that. Evelyn sunk into the water and Jack was hysterically trying to get to the beach below. Owen volunterily went to fish Evelyn's body out of the water just incase she had a chance. He got her onto the beach and there wasn't a chance. Her broken body was just lying on the beach with five adults surrounding her upset. Evelyn had a huge cut on her head and the blood trickled down her face. Her dress had red spots of blood on it from her head and a small wound that had developed on her side."Where's the Zygon?" Jack asked the team.

"Dead and in the water." Owen replied but Jack wasn't mad at him. He believed the Zygon deserved it because of what he did to his daughter. Jack's blood boiled and tears ran down his face. Then came the breath.

Evelyn's POV

I breathed so fast like I was suffocating. I sat up and looked around to see the team standing around me, some in tears. "I just... I thought... What?" I said. I was alive. I thought I had died. Yes I did. I let go of Jack's hand. "Her wounds are gone." Ianto pointed out. Everyone looked at me confused. I could have sworn that I was dead. Then everyones heads turned to Jack. "What did I do?" He asked the team but he knew what was going on. "Well what was I supposed to do? Let her die one day because of me? Because of this job? I couldn't lose Evelyn especially if she died doing this job." I stood up and looked Jack in the eyes. "You made me immortal like you?"

"Yes."

"Without my permission or better yet without me knowing?" I raised my voice. I was so mad. I wasn't scared of dying and now I didn't know if I wanted to or not. My mind had been messed up. "I didn't want to lose you. The night you turned twenty-one and you joined Torchwood I knew it had to be done. I couldn't lose you Evelyn, don't you understand that?"

"No because what if I want to die? What if I don't want to be immortal? Didn't you think about my opinion?"

"I did what I thought was right!"

"I don't want to do this. Lets just go home." I stormed off to the SUV and the team followed. 

We got back to the Torchwood Hub and I went straight to my room. I collapsed onto my bed and thought for ages about that day. Jack did what he thought was right for him not for me but it was sweet of him. He didn't tell me or ask me but he wanted me safe. Oh god, my mind! It was night and I liked to look up to the stars and dream. I still had them stupid dreams about travelling the universe but not as much. I was stuck in Torchwood, Cardiff.

There was a knock on my door. "Come in." I said. Jack walked in and sat on the bed next to me looking down. "I'm so sorry Evelyn. I thought was I did was right." He said.

"I forgive you. I over-reacted and I guess being immortal could come in handy. All them aliens we can trick." I laughed making Jack laughed. I leaned my head on his shoulder and he kissed my forehead. I guess life with Jack and the team wasn't too bad.
