The Herd
The scientist came closer with a needle. It had this dark green liquid in it and it didn't look too pleasing. "I'm going to inject this into both of you to see what happens. Then I will try the cure." He explained. "Try that on me buddy and you are not getting anywhere." I laughed. He forgot about the immortal part. "Then I'll try the male." Me and the Doctor gave each other scared expressions.
"No, you don't want to do that. You can't do that." The Doctor said.
"Why shouldn't I."
"We could help you."
"How?"
"Let us see one of the infected." Thescientist looked at us thinking. "But first, why didn't you try the cure on one of them in the first place?"
"I can't touch them. I needed to try it on someone that I could control. Then we would move on to the infected. In this situation I have you strapped down so you can't get out. The infected at too manic to be controlled. We've kept them alive as much as possible but they only have a couple of weeks to live." Too manic? This was horrible. They couldn't control the infected so they herded them and tried to find a cure while they suffered. I couldn't stand this. All the time the scientist was talking I was able to wiggle my foot out of the boots I was wearing just waiting. "You want to feel suffering?" I kicked the man in the stomach sending the control to the straps flying out of his pocket and to my feet. I clicked a button and I was free. Then the Doctor was. "Show us the infected."
When the scientist was able to walk without his stomach aching he lead us to one of the rooms that he stored the diseased citizens. Something slid open and revealed a window that me and the Doctor looked through. It was horrible. The infected had slightly green skin, spots all over their body and ragged clothes. They were banging on the walls, screaming, trying to find a way out. Nothing could be worse than this. "How could you do this?" The Doctor hissed at the scientist. He turned and looked at him face-to-face. "You didn't have to keep them cooped up in here like animals. These are real people, humans, and this is how you treat them?" I didn't want to look but it was like I couldn't stop looking. I felt so sorry for them. While the Doctor was having a go at the scientist a woman holding a baby caught my eye. She wasn't like the others. She was sat down in a corner cradling her baby. She looked scared and upset. I turned to face both the men and they noticed how upset and discusted I was with the tears rolling down my face. "I'm going to help them. I will not stop until I find a cure for the people you have locked up like cattle. Then you will be sorry." I said walking back to the room we had just left.
Whenever I got so upset like I just did I always had Jack or Ianto comforting me. Sometimes the rest of the team would find a way to cheer me up but they weren't there. I had no one to cheer me up. I had forgotten to tell Jack where I was. He would be worried. I'm immortal so I wouldn't have died perminently in the explosion which would have lead to suspicion on where I was. For all he knows the ball that I called him about was a way to kidnap me, which it kind of was, and I was locked away on a ship in a different galaxy. I would have called butmy phone would have been destroyed in the explosion. I just sat with my head in my hands in the lab waiting for the boys to come. "What do you expect us to do?" I could hear the scientist arguing. I grunted and looked up to see the Doctor looking rather angry at the scientist. "Right boys, lets get on with this." I said to break the silence between us. "So Mr..."
"Doctor Harrison."
"Okay Doctor Harrison, where are your supplies?"
I got most of all the chemical supplies I hoped I needed and waited to ask some questions. "Doctor Harrison, what caused the disease?" I asked.
"I don't know. One day someone went to the hospital and rumours were that he had this unknown, uncurable disease. The following days he had spots developing, tired and red eyes and his attutude changed. The next thing you know his whole family had it."
"Doctor, could this be some sort of plague?"
"Maybe. I have seen something similar before but they were all born with it. Totally different. He answered. This was going to be hard.
