Childhood's Ups And Downs

Age Ten

"How was school today?" Jack asked. It was my first day at my new school after I was adopted. "Amazing." I answered. I loved school especially my new one mainly because my old one was bad and the teachers weren't the best. It was quite a poor quality school. Outside of school I started to learn about some of the cool stories of the missions the team had gone on and the aliens they had met. I had quite liked learning about aliens actually. I also learnt that Jack was immortal because something that happened with his friend the Doctor and aliens called Daleks thousands of years in the future.

Age Twelve

"I hate this stupid school!" I cried as I came bursting into the Torchwood Hub storming towards my room. "What happened this time?" Gwen asked. I started to hate my school because my exam results were falling and the teachers didn't really appreasiate it too much. "I had to stay behind at lunch time because I wasn't "paying attention" in maths. Then I get pushed and shoved down the corridor again and to top it all off I get moaned at in science for not being able to answer a question that I didn't understand." I got to my room and slammed the door shut.

I wasn't the most popular in school. I used to be really smart and people made fun of me for it. I lost a lot of confidence and tried to not be the nerd that everyone thought I was. I was still made fun of though and I have no idea why. Was it my hair? The way my skirt always went past my knees? My appearance altogether? I still don't understand.

Later, I was lying on my bed Ianto came in with a tray with tea and some sandwitches and a slice of pizza on. He placed it on the table next to me and sat beside me. "Everything okay?" He asked.

"I don't know. Everything is a mess." I replied. Ianto put his hand on mine and smiled.

"Sometimes life is tough but you will get through it eventually. If you ever need any help then you have me, Jack and everyone else." I smiled and after the conversation he kissed my forehead and left the room. I loved my life at home.

I still had dreams about travelling the universe with this Doctor or even on my own. If that was impossible, I wanted to travel the world. But I would have probably ended up working at Torchwood which wasn't bad. They worked with aliens which is close to my dreams I guess.

Age Fifteen

"You need to aim straight at the target." Jack instructed. After school the team would teach me different things so I could become a great Torchwood worker. It also gave me something interesting to do. Jack was teaching me how to shoot a gun. It wasn't his idea but mine. I wanted to start learning so I didn't have to learn later. "I'm aiming straight." I moaned and pulled the trigger. It shot the target in the middle for the first time. "Yes!" I celebrated giving Jack a high five. I shot the gun again straight through the middle. I was getting good at this.
