Sixteen
"Alright babygirl, Get right on that schoolwork, alright?" Calum orders when Delilah comes over to the house and sits on his lap.
"What about breakfast?" The brunette chuckles at her question and stands up with her on his hip, carrying her to the table where she put her laptop and setting her in front of it.
"You can do work while i make you something, okay?"
"But I wanna help you make it."
"No, you wanna stall. Get on it pretty girl."
"But-"
"No, Delilah. I mean it. Open that laptop and get to work."
"I don't wanna yet, Cali! I wanna eat first! Then I'll do it."
"Delilah, I know you're a good girl, baby, but you're not being good. You gotta do your schoolwork or you'll be in trouble. You can do it baby, I know you can. If you just start you'll be all done before you know it."
Delilah whines and cal sighs.
"You can do your schoolwork or you can stand with your nose in a corner til I'm done making breakfast. It's up to you."
"I'm not five." Tears fill Delilah's eyes and her lip quivers. The man sighs and leans down to kiss her head.
"I didn't say you were, but if you're being naughty there's going to be consequences. So, what's it gonna be?"
The girl sighs and opens her laptop. "You're mean, Cali."
"You sure you're not five?"
This offends Delilah more than intended and she nearly begins crying again and the Maori man chuckles.
"Aw, it's okay baby, I'm just teasing, you know that. Now do your schoolwork and I'll start on breakfast." Calum kisses the little ones cheek and heads to the stove to make the two of them breakfast.
She sighs every few minutes as she half asses the course and squirms boredly, mind on other things.
She remembers the incident with her grandmother the other day and frowns, just as calum sets a plate by her laptop.
Delilah grins and scoots the device away.
"Calum?" She asks halfway through her meal.
"Yes love bug?"
"Can I tell you something?"
"Of course boo." Delilah smiles at the pet name and nods.
"I don't know. Maybe it's normal, but something happened the other day- before we went ice skating, when i was sad- and I just... I don't know."
Her ramblings worry the man and he sets his fork down, grabbing her hand and looking into her eyes with a concerned frown.
"Tell me, baby."
"Well, Marcy- she got upset with me and... and she like... um..."
"Did she hurt you, doll?" Calum is on the end of his seat with protective instincts for the little one.
Delilah meekly nods. "She slapped me. I mean I might be over-"
"You're not overreacting baby, that's not okay. Does your mom know about this?" Delilah bites her lip and shakes her head.
"She needs to, bug, we should call her-"
"No! Calum, please don't."
"Delilah, why? It's not okay for anyone to hurt you and your mom would agree I'm sure. She'd wanna know, you know that."
"But she's stressed already Cali, just, not right now." Calum sighs, the pink haired baby looks like she's gonna cry and he doesn't want that, so he nods, deciding he'll talk to the other boys later and they'll make a decision together, but he knows they'll all agree to call and let April know. But he doesn't need to upset Delilah right now.
"Finish your breakfast, bugga boo, then you can do some more homework before we take a break and watch tv or something for a bit, okay? I'm gonna go grab something so I can do some work too, but I'll be right back."
Delilah nods, and Calum takes off. She eats slowly so she can put off schoolwork as long as possible.
The day is boring for the two, not doing much and arguing slightly about when Delilah gets to take breaks and whatnot until finally the rest of the boys begin getting home and they both give up entirely on trying to get any work done as Delilah begins play fighting with Luke and then Calum, and soon Michael joins as well and they all chase her around the house and tackle her (gently of course) and wrestle and let her win and get up and chase her again.
When that tires they watch a movie, and cuddling up together, and then Delilah has to go home before her grandparents come back.
"So... Delilah told me something today." Calum sighs, and the other men look at him with serious expressions at his solemn face and tone.
"What?"
"She said Marcy hit her the other day and that's why she was so upset when she came over." All four have frowning and angry faces.
"Those people are such bitches." Michael sneers, clearly referring to Delilahs grandparents.
"I told her we need to tell her mom but she didn't want to, said she's too stressed already. She pretty much begged me not to." Calum explains.
"Well we're going to anyway, right? They can't treat her like that, her mom needs to know." Ashton pipes in.
"Of course we are." Luke says, and Calum and Michael nod in agreement.
"Delilahs gonna be upset with us." Calum sighs and he pulls out his phone, typing out a text to April to call him whenever possible.
"Yeah, but it's what's best for her."
