Seventeen
The conversation with April is an emotional one but she doesn't seem surprised, and it's now been a week since they heard from her and she'll be coming for her monthly visit tomorrow. Needless to say, Delilah is bouncing around excitedly in the boys house and giggling and yelling about everything.
"Delilah baby, eat your breakfast please."
"But-"
"Honey, gotta eat. Your mom will be here at 11 whether you eat or not, but you'll be a lot less grumpy if you have some food in you." Michael argues and the girl pouts and makes her way to the table.
When April's taxi pulls up, Delilah leaves her half empty plate on the table and takes off excitedly out of the house without a word.
The boys chuckle and move on with their day, dreading the conversation they know is bound to come later.
It's not until the second day of April's visit that it happens, Delilah throws the door open and they all quickly rush downstairs to meet her and she's clearly been crying.
"I told you not to tell her! You lied!" She sobs, Calum tries to pull her into a hug and she hits his chest and pushes him away.
"Babygirl, I'm sorry, but she had to know. What's wrong sweet girl? Why're you so upset?" They have a few guesses but they wait for her answer.
"Mamas fighting with them a-and she said she's gonna have me come live with her." She whimpers, falling into calums arms and sobbing.
They're not entirely shocked but they are surprised and sad.
"It's okay baby, you know your moms doing what's best for you honey." Luke comforts, petting the girls hair. Calum picks her up and they all move to the couch to cuddle the distraught girl.
"Don't you not wanna live with your grandparents bunny?" Ashton asks.
"I don't but I don't wanna leave you guys! And mama works all the time and I'll probably have to go to public school." Delilah cries and buries her face in michaels neck.
When the boys hear a knock at the door Delilah cries harder and Mikey sets her down and goes to get it, and April comes in and smiles when she sees the boys comforting the crying girl- from a slight distance now.
"I'm sorry, I didn't want her to see my parents and I fighting so I told her she could come over here." April says quietly.
"Oh, no, it's okay, we don't mind." Calum smiles.
"Sweetheart?" April cals and Delilah moves her hands from her eyes and stands, going to her mother and hugging around her waist, crying into her.
"I know baby. Cmon, let's go pack your things." Delilah wordlessly follows her mother out as April waves awkwardly to the men who smile sympathetically, figuring Delilah will come say goodbye to them later.
She comes in absolutely sobbing a few hours later, her stuff all packed into her mother's car.
The boys can't help but feel terrible. Sure, it's best she's not getting abused by her grandparents but it's their fault she's so upset, they told her mom, and now she's being taken away. They hug her tight and comfort her until her mom says it's time to leave and she sniffles and nods, leaving silently.
This is really short but basically this has been part one of this book I'm not sure when part two is going to come (I didn't wanna make it two separate books but it kind of is just in one) but it probably won't be too long before I publish the first chapter of part two.
