Chapter 4

Previously on Chapter 3

I lay on my back for a couple of seconds. Just staring at the ceiling. 'I don't ask for this... this messed up life. I can't help the way I am even if I tried to change myself...' I thought to myself. My mind eventually drift off to Billy. He just wouldn't stop bothering me. It's getting on my nerve, not gonna lie. I out a sigh and shake my head. I turn to lay on my side. I close my eyes and let myself drift off to sleep.

-Where Should I Go?-

Y/N P.O.V

Today is weekend, which means I have no school. I am so glad, because that means I'm free from all the dramas at school. Especially Billy. That guy kept trying to get me to talk to him. It's very annoying.

But even though there's no school today. I have work to do. I work at a small convenience store. I have a morning shift on the weekends, and about 2 hours shift on the weekdays. She's in charge at the cashier, while I work as a staff. I work there with Joyce Byers and she is very friendly to me.

Everyone else in town things Joyce is weird and a little freaky. I don't know what's their problem with her... and I don't care. She's friendly towards me and she seem genuine. But that doesn't mean I can be open with her. I still struggle to actually talk. So in the end, I just use signs. Surprisingly, she actually understands me.

I enter the shop with a smile. "Morning, Y/N..." she said, as soon as she saw me. I give her a nod with a smile on my face. I walk further inside the shop and walk towards the locker, to change my clothes into my uniform.

I walk back out and start working on cleaning the floor. After I make sure the floor is clean. I start to arrange the shelf, making sure the item is where it's located.

"Excuse me, can you show me where the beer is?" I hear someone said. I turn my head, and try to resist the urge to roll my eyes when I see who it is. You've got to be kidding me. This guy followed me, literally everywhere.

I just give him a smile and gestures him to follow me. I turn my head slightly to make sure he is. I guide him through the shelves, until I reached the fridge sections. I gesture towards where he beers are located.

"Thanks..." he said. He walk towards the fridge and pick out a few bottles of beers. He winks at me and walks away. I let out a sigh and roll my eyes. That guy... what's his problem? I've showed him multiple times that I'm not interested in him, yet he still try to strike a conversation with me.

I head home after the shift is over. I still have some assignments to work on before I can get some rest. It's exhausting, but I don't have a choice. I really need this job or I won't be able to pay for my school fees and my daily needs.

After a while of walking, I finally reach home. I head to my room and sit down by my study desk. I start to work on my assignment. I have to write some essay regarding a 'perfect family.'

It's kind of painful for me to write about it. It makes me recall everything about my family. Sure... I love them and they love me. But writing this makes me remember that I won't be able to see them anymore.

I jump when someone burst through the door. I turn my head to see my foster mother. She looks furious at me. "I thought I told you to clean the house! Why didn't you do it? You lazy bitch!" She yelled. I open my mouth to try and explain, but no voice.

"You're mute... and now you're useless! God! Why did I bother picking you up from the streets! Just do the damn chores. Now!!" She said. She turns around and walks out of my room.

I place my pencil down. I feel tears gathering in my eyes. But I wipe them away, not wanting to show any sign of emotion towards these people because if you show one reaction. They would start mocking you... which is the last thing I'd need.

I walk out of my room and start to do the chores. I can't wait to get out of this place. I'm saving some money that will help me. Of course, I didn't keep my money here. The foster parents would demand for money, in exchange for a shelter. I don't have a choice but to live here. I have no where else to go.

I hear a loud thud and turn my head. It's Ruth... she's one of the rudest person that lived here. She must have slipped while I try to mob the floor. She lets out a groan in pain.

"Oh my God! You useless bitch! Why can't you just do one thing properly, huh?! Look what you did!" She yelled. I look down, trying to avoid eye-contact with her.

"What's going on here?" My foster mother said. "I fell, thanks to this stupid girl. Look... I scraped my knee because of her. Why did you let her stay here, mom?" she said. Yes... she's the daughter of the foster mom.

"Oh my poor baby..." she said. She turns to me and glare. "That's the last straw. Pack your stuff and leave. I want you gone by the time I return home!" She said, glaring at me. Ruth stands behind her with a smirk on her face. She walks past me, bumping into my shoulder on purpose. I wince in pain at the impact. I hear the front door slams shut.

I turn my head to look at Ruth. "You heard what she said, loser. Leave..." she said. She walks towards her room and slam the door shut. I let out a sigh and head to my room.

I start to pack for my stuff. I hear a soft knock and turn my head to see Julia. She gives me a sad smile. She walks towards me and wraps her arms around me.

"I heard what happened... I'm sorry I couldn't stand up for you..." she said. I wrap my arms around her. "It's okay, Julia. You'll be in trouble too if you do..." I said. She burst into tears and hugs me again. "I sure hope you'll be able to find a new place to stay, Y/N..." she said. I just cry softly and returns her hug. She helps me pack my stuff.

I close the luggage once I'm done. I turn to look at Julia who have tears in her eyes. She walks towards me and wraps her arms around me again. "See you around, Julia..." I said, in a hushed tone. She just tighten her arms around me.

We pull away from the hug and she escorts me to the front door. "Goodbye, Y/N..." she said. I smile at her and nod my head. She knows I can't speak when we are not in a closed room. She knows I don't want the others to know that I'm not actually mute. I wave at her and turn around. I start to walk away from the house that I've stayed in for the past few years.

Where should I go?
