Chapter 6: Traditional Dancing and Drumming

A few days into the Wishing Star collect-a-thon...

At the Ancient Tree behind the school, Briar, her friends, Deuce, Trey, and Ortho, along with Idia from the tablet. Of course, Crowley brings the Starsenders to the spot for a reason.

Grim gasps in surprise, "Mraaah! I had no idea there was this ginormous tree behind the school!"

"Same..." Deuce says, surprised.

"It's really big," Jasper says.

"Is very lovely," Sereia says.

Briar turns to Crowley, "Is this where the Wishing Stars go, Headmage?"

"Quite so, "Crolwey says, "Now let's hoist them aloft!"

The students agree.

Soon, the group of students begin to place the Wishing Stars they've gathered up the tree. Soon, the Ancient Tree is decorated with Wishing Stars.

"And...there. That's all the Wishing Stars we've collected so far," Deuce says.

Grim is surprised, "Whoa... All hung up like that, those stones really light up the area."

"Yeah. It's gorgeous," Deuce says.

"The tree looks so beautiful with the Wishing Stars.

"Right?! Are you seeing this, Idia?" Ortho asks with a smile.

"Um..." Idia responds.

Ortho then grabs the Tablet, "Oh, lemme adjust the angle of the tablet. There you go," and adjusts it so Idia can see.

"Thanks, Ortho. I can see it just fine," Idia says.

"Are you sure you're seeing it? I thought you'd be more impressed..." Ortho replies.

"No, no, I totally see it! It's beautiful! Moving, even! I grabbed a screencap and everything!" Idia says, sounding amazed.

"Well... If you say so," Ortho says.

"I think the tree looks like it's sparkling," Sereia says.

"I can't wait to see it at night," Tanzanite says.

Then Crowley says, "You'll find it even more impressive the day of the ceremony, when the tree is bursting with Wishing Stars."

"Though that will depend on how much work we put in, right?" Trey questions.

"Precisely! I expect nothing but the best from you," Crowley says, "Now that that's done, let's move on, shall we? It's time to discuss what will happen on the day of the Starsending."

The four Starsenders: Briar, Trey, Deuce, and Idia from the tablet, begin to listen.

Crowley explains, "At our school, the Stargazers are expected to perform a ceremony with traditional dancing and drumming. It's your job to stoke the flames of excitement for the Starsending. Clover, Idia Shroud, Ortho Shroud—I trust you're familiar with the ceremony already?"

"Certainly," Trey answers.

Then Ortho says, "Last year's ceremony was so cool! One glimpse was enough to burn it into my databanks."

"Yeah, it was unforgettable all right. One of the cringiest things I've ever laid eyes on..." Idia says.

"I haven't seen one since I was a kid," Deuce replies, "What's the set up again?"

"The custom at this school is for one Stargazer to play the drums while the other two dance. But it is no mere dance recital. Tradition dictates we perform a wondrous dance, backed by a solemn drumbeat. Now that there will be four of you this year. Two of you will play the drums and the other two dance," Crowley says, "The four of you must be perfectly in sync!"

"Sheesh. Sounds like Stargazers gotta deal with a lotta nonsense rules.

"So, the Starsenders need to perform more than just collecting stars," Jasper replies.

"Appears so," Briar says.

"It sounds kind of fun," Sereia says.

Then Crowley says, "I've taken the liberty of assigning the roles according to birthdate. Spade and Hawthorne will dance... And Idia Shroud and Trey Clover will be in charge of the drums."

"Looking forward to it, Brar!" Deuce says.

"Right back at you, Deuce. I'm very excited. I love to dance," Briar says.

Trinket happily nods and dances a bit.

Jasper says to Trey, "It's cool that you get to play the drums."

"Thank you," Trey says.

Ortho then says to Idia, "Hear that, Idia? You're on drums. This should be a cinch since you're such a whiz with music games!"

"That doesn't mean I can play real instruments..." Idia says annoyed, Augh, never mind..."

Then Crowley says, "You'll need to make time to practice for the ceremony while still carrying out your star-collecting duties."

"Things are gonna be even more hectic, then. We can kiss our free time goodbye," Trey replies.

"No way around it, though," Deuce replies.

"Well, if we want to do good then we need to practice," Briar says.

"That's the spirit!" Crowley happily says, "I'll take you through the dance and drumbeat now. Ah, but I suppose the elder Shroud is here via tablet again today."

"Sorry, sir. My stomach's been acting up," Idia says.

"Oh dear, I do hope you feel better. So you'll attend in person next time?" Crowley replies.

"...Maybe," India answers.

Then mutters to himself, "Who in their right mind would willingly do that when they know they're gonna have to practice this ceremony? This is a code red. I need to think of some way to get out of playing those drums!"

Then Crowleys says. "I will be most pleased if you do attend in person, Idia Shroud."

"I'll...give it some serious thought, sir," Idia says.

"All right. Let's run through the routine, shall we? No drums this time, so I'll clap the tempo and give directions. Just move per my instructions," Crowley says.

Then shouts, "Here goes!"
