Chapter 3: This Year's Stargazers

"All right, I now present to you your Stargazers for this year!" Crowley announces.

He then remembers, "And before I forget, we're going to make a small change to the Stargazer. We've decided to add one more person to the Stargazers, so we'll be having four Stargazers instead of three."

Many of the boys groan a bit and look annoyed. That means that one more person will be forced to get the wishing stars.

"And now, we will present the Stargazers," Crowley says, and announces the Stargazers, "And the first birthdate is... October 25th. Trey Clover!"

Trey is a little surprised, "...Well. Definitely wasn't expecting that."

"Congratulations, Trey," Riddle says, "I expect you to do your part to avoid bringing embarrassment to the Heartslabyul name."

"Yes, Housewarden. I'll be sure to pull my weight," Trey says.

Then Crowley continues, "The second birthdate is...December 18th. Idia Shroud!"

"...Bwah?" Idia is flabbergasted from the pad.

He then asks, "Uh, Ortho? Am I imagining things, or did the headmage just shout my name?"

"He sure did! Congratulations, Idia! It's so cool you got picked!" Ortho says happily.

But Idia doesn't think the same, "Nope, nope, HARD NOPE! I'm not doing it!"

"What? Why not?" Ortho asks.

"You know what Stargazers have to do, right?" Idia says, "They're glorified gofers who go around gathering Wishing Stars from all the students. Then they're publicly humiliated on Starsending day. Dance and bang drums in front of the whole school?! That's a nightmare! What do they think I am, a hardcore rhythm gamer? That's like taking pure cringe and somehow overclocking it!"

Then Ortho says, "Well, if that's the case, why not just partake in collecting the stars? You could do that through your tablet. I can handle carrying them!"

"But that means I'd be shifting work onto you, Ortho. Brothers don't do that to each other..." Idia says, unsure.

Thrn Ortho happily says, "Actually, I'm glad you got picked. I WANT to help."

"I dunno..." Idia says, unsure.

"I'll help you in any way I can. ...Pretty please?" Ortho begs.

Idia thinks for a minute and says, "... Well, I GUESS..."

Ortho happily cheers, "Yay! This is gonna be fun!"

And then Crowley announces, "And the third birthdate is...June 3rd. Deuce Spade!"

"Wait, what?!" Deuce asks, shocked.

Ace is trying his best not to laugh, "Uh... Congrats?"

"Welp, them's the breaks," Grim says with a smirk.

Deuce is offended and says, "Stop with the pitying looks. I'll have you know I'm honored to be a Stargazer. I'll be representing the whole student body! I swear I'll get the job done!"

"Sounds like another prime opportunity for you to get your try hard on. Good luck with all that," Ace says.

"I think you'll do good as a Stargazer," Sereia says.

"Thank you," Deuce says.

Then Crowley says, "And the fourth and final birthdate is... March 30th. Briar Hawthorne!"

This catches the group by surprise.

Briar especially, "Wait, me?!"

"Wow Briar, you've become a Stargazer now," Tanzanite says.

"Pretty cool," Jasper says.

Deuce smiles, "Well Briar, it appears we'll be working together on this one."

"Guess you're right," Briar replies with a smile.

Soon, Crowley announces, "These four are this year's Stargazers. We will now hand out the Wishing Stars, and I expect all of you to turn them into the Stargazers. One caveat, however—you must make your wish in the presence of a Stargazer! Otherwise your Wishing Star won't light up. And what's sadder than hanging an unlit star? Incidentally, some news reporters will be attending this year's ceremony. Our Starsending is to be featured in the local papers. So I trust you'll all do your part to ensure we have an ample amount of Wishing Stars. That is all. Dismissed!

And with that, everyone begins to leave the Lecture Hall as they get their Wishing Star.

Grim says eagerly, "Okay! I'm gonna go snag one of those Wishing Stars!"

"Someone's an eager beaver," Tanzanite says.

Then Jasper questions, "Weren't you just making fun of the Stargazers?"

"Look, I dunno about the rest of this, but I'd be a fool to pass up a free magestone!" Grim says and dashes off to grab one.

"Oh brother," Jasper replies, rolling his eyes.
