Chapter 11: Where There Are No Clouds

The Day of the Starsending ceremony...

In the Headmage's office, everyone is having a meeting about the ceremony tonight.

Grim says, "I see a big, whale-shaped cloud in the distance, but it's clear as day 'round here."

"Yeah. Doesn't look like we'll have any trouble holding the ceremony. Right, Headmage?" Trey responds.

"Hmm..." Crowley thinks.

"Don't you agree, sir?" Deuce asks, "We believed the weather would clear, AND we kept practicing!"

"You certainly did, but cast your eyes outside! Distant or not, there are massive storm clouds heading our way! It's only a matter of time before they reach us. To ignore this fact and hold the ceremony would be..." Crowley says.

Suddenly, he hears a phone call, "What's this? A phone call...from an unknown number?" and with that, Crowley answers the phone call.

And begins talking on the phone, "Hello? ...Yes? Idia Shroud? I never gave you this number. How did you...hm? The ceremony? The rest of your group and I were just discussing whether or not to cancel it, actually... Yes... Mmhm... I beg your pardon?! You can't just DO that! Wait! Idia Shroud, don't you dare—" And suddenly, the line is cut off, "...He hung up."

"Idia call you on the phone?" Briar says, confused.

Then Deuce asks, "What'd he say?"

"He demanded we go ahead with the ceremony, and said not to worry about the weather. He also informed me that he remotely accessed my PC and sent an email to the press," Crowley answers, "The email said, 'This ceremony will proceed as planned. We eagerly await your visit to our school.' It appears my hands have been tied. We've no alternative but to move forward with the ceremony! Goodness, what a quagmire!"

The group soon looks at each other with confused expressions.

"Idia wants to continue with the ceremony?" Tanzanite says, confused.

"What is he up to?" Jasper wonders

Later that night...

The entire student body and staff arrive at the Ancient Trey, waiting for the performance to take place.

Cater asks, "Are Trey and Deucey holding up okay? I can't really see 'em from back here."

"If I know Deuce—and I think I do by now—he's gonna be so freaked out he's frozen stiff," Ace says.

"I hope Briar will be okay out there?" Sereia asks, worried.

"Ï'm sure Briar will be alright," Grim says.

In front of the crowd.

Deuce says, sounding a bit nervous, "This...this is it. Do you think we can pull the dance off?"

"Don't let your nerves get the best of you, Deuce. Try to relax your shoulders. We practiced a ton for this. But none of that will matter if you're scared stiff," Trey says.

"Clover's right, you know. I should inform you the reporters have arrived to cover the event. PLEASE do not disgrace us," Crowley says.

"Yessir!" Deuce says.

Briar looks around, "I wonder where Idia is. He said he be here."

"You are correct, Briar. Where might Idia Shroud be?" Crowley questions.

"Looks like he's running late," Trey answers.

"Oh dear. Surely he wouldn't bow out at this juncture?" Crowley asks.

"I hope not. Then again, we ARE talking about Idia here..." Deuce says, doubtful.

But then says, "No, we made a deal. He'll honor his end of it, I just know it!"

Suddenly, someone shouts, "...AaaAAAugh!"

"Hey, someone's shouting and running over here!" Deuce says, and looks to see who it is, "I think it's..."

And soon enough, Idia arrives wearing the Starzending Robe

"Do I seriously have to wear THIS? OMG this is beyond embarrassing! Aaaugh..." India says, very embarrassed.

After arriving, Idia stops to catch his breath, "Hey... Uh, Sorry I'm late..."

"Idia! You made it!" Deuce says.

Soon, Grim notices, "Mrah? Where's Ortho? I thought he'd be with you."

"Oh, he'll catch up later. He's busy making some tweaks..." Idia answers.

"Tweaks?" Grim asks.

"What do you mean?" Briar asks.

Idia simply answers, "You'll see..."

"I'm just delighted you made it," Crowley says, "Let's get the ceremony underway before the weather turns on us, shall we?"

"All right. Deuce? Trey? Briar? You three all set?" Idia asks.

Deuce remains silent.

"Wh-what now?" Idia says, confused.

"It's just...you seem different today," Deuce says.

"He's right. You surely changed," Briar says.

"Yeah, I noticed that too," Trey says, "I honestly expected you to change your mind and drop out last minute."

"Geez, you must think I'm a turbo-flake... I guess I deserve it, though," Idia says, "But who cares about any of that? Instead of live-blogging about my attitude, how about we focus on getting through the ceremony and—"

Just then, the storm is starting to arrive overhead and making lightning and thundering.

Everyone yelps.

Even Grim yelps, "MRAAH!"

"That sure was loud," Tanzanite says.

"And bright," Jasper adds.

"How are you so calm?! That scared the livin' daylights outta me!" Grim cries out.

"It admittedly gave me a fright as well. A sudden burst of thunder like that certainly does a number on one's nerves. Clearly the weather has taken a turn for the worse. I'm afraid I have no other choice," Crowley says.

And soon announces, "Everyone, the ceremony is canceled!"

"Wait, but it's not raining yet!" Deuce says.

But Crowley turns to Deuce, "Did you not hear the thunder? We cannot possibly continue after that; it's out of the question. Not to mention the sky. Look above us! Rainclouds, as far as the eye can see."

"I guess you're right..." Deuce says, realizing he's right.

"That crummy whale-cloud's blockin' our view of the stars!" Grim says.

"Do you understand now? Holding the Starsending in this weather would court disaster," Crowley says, "I'll see to it that the students get back to their dorms. The rest of you can break down the set."

"So... That's it?" Deuce asks, disappointed.

"There's nothing for it, Deuce. We did everything we could to make it work... But we can't control the weather," Trey says.

"We worked so hard though..." Deuce says, frustrated, "I managed to get into this school, and I know I'm far from a model student, but I lucked out and got picked to represent us. I was gonna call my mom and tell her how I did my part as a Stargazer. I wanted to give her some happy news... And now my chance is gone! Just like that! Argh, this stinks!"

Suddenly, Idia says, "Leave it to the passionate-type to QQ at the first sign of trouble. ROFL."

"Idia...?" Deuce questions.

"Okay, look, real talk—you're low-key being a baby right now," Idia says, "Who could've guessed the weather bureau's meteorologically determined forecast would prove accurate? Not you, apparently."

"What? You wanna say that to my face?" Deuce asks, frustrated.

"Sciencing is hard, LOL. See, I'm not a chump like you, Deuce," Idia says, "I don't have it in me to go all out for these kiddie school activities. I'm not capable of running around like a headless chicken, collecting 300 Wishing Stars... All to get some introverted nerd out of his room for a ceremony. Now you, Deuce? You ARE that chump. But if you weren't, I never would have heard Ortho's wish."

"Huh? What are you..." Deuce replies, confused.

"If these wishes can't reach the stars, we'll deliver them ourselves," Idia answers.

"What?" Jasper and Tanzanite say, confused.

"Deliver them ourselves?" Sereia says, confused.

"Idia, what are you up to?" Briar asks.

Suddenly, they hear Ortho calling out, "Idiaaa!"

Everyone soon looks up to see Ortho flying overhead and lands in front of them. To everyone's surprise, everyone sees that Ortho is wearing a Starsending outfit.

Idia calls out, "LET'S GOOOO! About time you got here, Ortho!"

Grim yelps, "Mrah?! What's with that fancy body he's got?"

"Is it just me, or does it have a similar design to our Starsending Robes?" Trey asks.

"I think it is. The design and color looks very similar to the robes we're wearing," Briar says.

"You are correct Briar," Ortho says, "This is my new Stargazer Gear attachment, an atmospheric escape apparatus Idia built for me."

"Stargazer Gear? Really?" Deuce asks, surprised.

But then Tanzanite asks, "Wait, did you just say 'atmospheric escape'?"

"Yep!" Ortho says

Then Idia says, "If the clouds are blocking our way, we'll just move the Wishing Stars to where there are no clouds. EZ. Ortho's gonna carry 'em up into space."

Everyone cries out in shock, "BWHAAA?!"

"Won't that be dangerous for Ortho?" Deuce asks, worried.

"Nah. We've run plenty of tests. And this model's an Idia-original," Ortho answers.

"You're both serious? Your plan is to jet into SPACE?" Deuce asks.

"Absolutely!" Ortho answers.

"Dude... THAT RULES!" Deuce cries out in amazement.

That surprises Idia, "Whoa! Wha?! Could you please not yell like that?"

"Idia, you are OUT OF THIS WORLD!" Deuce adds with excitement and is practically close to Idia.

Idia reacts, "Ah, uh, don't... Not so close! Don't turn this into some touchy-feely moment!"

He calms down and says, "Look... I want to pull this off, just this once. For Ortho. So... Deuce. Trey. Briar. What do you say?"

"You've thrown a doozy of a curveball at us, you know. But we've come this far. No sense backing down now, right?" Trey says.

"You said it!" Deuce says, "Ortho's gonna deliver the Wishing Stars for us. So let's back him up as best we can and put on a perfect performance!"

"They're right. This might be the only way to get the stars up there. So Ortho, do your best up there," Briar says.

"Sure," Ortho says.

Idia snickers, "Hee hee. KK NP. Let's do this."

"I'll head to our launch pad at the sports field. See you soon, Idia!" Ortho says.

"Yep!" Idia says.

But before Ortho can leave, Deuce says, "...Hey, Ortho!"

"Hm? What is it, Deuce Spade?" Ortho asks.

"You said you weren't technically a student here, and that you and your brother were a package deal. But the way I see it? You're the fifth Stargazer, no question. Let's give these people the best Starsending they've ever seen!" Deuce says.

Soon, Ortho happily says, "...Right!"

Crowley notices and cries out, "Now, hold on just a minute! What do you students think you're doing?!"

Grim laughs, "Myah hah hah! You can do it, Stargazers! My Wishin' Star's ridin' on you guys!"

"Give everyone a performance they'll never forget," Sereia says.

The now five Starsenders nod their heads and soon begin the performance. Trey and Idia beat on the drums while Briar and Deuce performed the dance. All the students who plan to leave stop and begin to watch the show. Just then, Ortho comes flying and begins to use his magic to gather all the Wishing Stars and fly up into the sky, carrying them higher and higher. Ortho continues to fly from his boosters with all his might, carrying the stars. And soon, Ortho is now in the vastness of space with the wishing stars in tow.
