Chapter 9: Azul's Tsum I

Flashback: During the Tsum's arrival...

Outside of the Mister S's Mystery Shop and Jade are there, and notice the strange hole up in the sky over the Ramshackle Dorm.

Azul turns to Jade, "Jade, contact Floyd and have him give us a sitrep on what's happening in Octavinelle. Normally he can't be bothered, but considering these strange goings-on, I'm sure he'd be willing to check up on things."

"Understood. I'll get in touch right away," Jade says. He then chuckles and says, "Heh heh, I confess I find this all rather exciting."

"...At least one of us is enjoying this," Azul says. He lets out a sigh, "I'm getting a bad feeling."

Shortly after, Jade and Azul are walking in the woods behind the campus, after noticing a strange object has fallen out of the sky.

"We should be coming up on where the objects fell," Jade says.

Be cautious. We can't be sure what we'll find," Azul advises.

"It's quiet. The woods are the same as they've always been. No sign of any crash landings..." Jade says, looking around a bit, "Did we walk past our destination? Let's look around a bit more."

"Keep your guard up and your eyes peeled," Azul says.

Suddenly, Azul hears something, "Careful, Jade. There's something in that thicket.

"I heard it. A small animal, perhaps...?" Jade questions.

And coming out of the bushes are the Jade Tsum and the Azul Tsum. The Jade Tsum hops up and down while the Azul Tsum scurry off.

Seeing them, Azul reacts in shock, "Is this...a Tsum? Like the one Floyd looked after a while ago? There's his lookalike again..." However, getting a closer look, Azul realizes, "Wait, no. That one's you, isn't it?"

"There's another one over this way, Azul. It ran off pretty quickly..." Jade says, "...but it bore a distinct resemblance to you."

After a moment of silence, Azul says, "Jade, report this to the headmage. I'm going to look around a bit more."

Sometime later the next day, in the kitchen.

Azul has finished explaining the story to Floyd...And so we found a Tsum that takes after me, as well as a Jade lookalike."

"Huh, I'm kinda impressed you could tell the difference between the me-Tsum and the Jade-Tsum," Floyd says.

"What do you mean?" Azul questions.

"There's basically no difference between Jade's and mine at first glance, right?" Floyd replies.

Azul has to agree, "I suppose." He then says, "But I make it a point to memorize the features of the people I do business with. Otherwise I risk tremendous losses. Once you know what to look for, telling you two apart is simple."

"Uh-huh. Sure, whatever you say," Floyd replies.

He then asks, "So, mind fillin' me in on why you called me here? I was just about to go back to sleep... Havin' to come to school extra early and trudge all the way to the cafeteria kitchen is KIND OF a drag, y'know."

"Very well. No one else is here, so I suppose this is a good time to lay it all out. I'm about to start training and testing the Tsum! Azul says.

"Wait, what?" Floyd questions.

"He—ah, that is, the Tsum—has already signed a contract to work at the Mostro Lounge," Azul says.

Floyd asks with a frown, "...You're not gonna put that guy in the kitchen, are you?"

"No, he'll be front-of-house," Azul answers.

He then explains, "What would be the point of hiring him if he's not working where customers can see him? The basic idea is for him to lay the charm on our customers... But those who come to see the Tsum will be hoping for him to contribute to their experience in at least some minor way. Any finishing touch would suffice—squirting a bit of ketchup, sprinkling some salt, planting a little flag toothpick... So I'd like to start by having the Tsum assist with food preparation and evaluate its aptitude."

The Azul Tsum hops up and down, and judging by the expression, it looks very excited.

Azul giggles, "Heh heh, someone's excited. by all means, give it your best effort. I've brought all the necessary ingredients. If you could handle the cooking, Floyd?"

"Oh, that's what's in this huge bag. Man, you want me to cook? What a chore," Floyd says, annoyed, "You coulda just forced this on the kitchen staff already workin' at the Lounge today."

"My Tsum lookalike's capabilities are still under evaluation, so I'd prefer to avoid public exposure for now," Azul says, "That's why I chose the cafeteria kitchen. Plus you already have prior experience in dealing with Tsums, Floyd. I know working with a Tsum isn't always easy, but if you could, please."

"...Eh, sure. Cookin' with a Tsum sounds fun enough. It'll probably do somethin' goofy," Floyd replies.

Azul then turns to the Tsum, "All right, Tsum—show me what you can do!"
