Chapter 18: Rook's Tsum II
Understanding the reason for coming into his room, Vil says, "Now I see. So the Tsum has a fondness for beauty and wanted a nice, long look at my face?" and chuckles, "Heh heh! So it DOES understand what beauty is."
Rook Tsum hops excitedly with hearts appearing around him. Of course, it's keeping the distance between himself and Vil.
"And it maintains a proper distance while admiring me. What a well-mannered Tsum. I've seen my fair share of fans who ignore personal boundaries as it suits them," Vil says.
Rook smiles, "'Tis impossible to truly appreciate beauty if one does not first respect it. After all, self-centered behavior is quite unbecoming. We would never wish to make you uncomfortable or cause your expression to cloud over."
"See that you don't. So, have you had your fill? I have a Film Research Club meeting to attend," Vil says.
"I could bask in your glory 'til the end of time...but I wouldn't dare delay you," Rook says.
"How very prudent. Then I shall excuse myself," Vil says and takes his leave.
"Take care," Rook says.
Once Vil is gone, Rook turns to his Tsum, "Now then, Monsieur Tsum. What would you like to do next?"
The Rook Tsum thinks a bit, and has an idea.
Later in the evening at Mister S's Mystery Shop, Epel has left the building.
"Okay, time to head back to the dorm..." Epel says.
But soon notices the Rook Tsum continues walking around
Epel asks, "Hm? Was that Rook's Tsum? I thought it was touring Pomefiore with him..."
And soon begins taking its leave.
Epel decies to follow, "Hey, um... You're not supposed to go out on your own..."
Suddenly, he hears Rook's voice, "Non, you needn't worry."
Epel turns to see Rook and cries out, "WHOA! ROOK?!"
Rook then shushes him, "Shh. I'm following Monsieur Tsum and observing him."
"You are? But why?" Epel asks, confused.
"There was a palpable determination in his gaze which led me to believe he had a specific destination in mind," Rook says, "What does he seek on campus, after having beheld the beauty within Pomefiore? That is what I wish to find out."
"A palpable determination...?" Epel replies, confused, "I dunno... They seem like regular Tsum eyes to me."
And Rook says, "Come along, Epel. This is an opportunity to witness something quite enjoyable— or rather, beautiful."
This catches Epel off guard, "Wait, why am I getting roped into this?"
And moments later, Epel joins Rook in his observation. They watch as Rook Tsum watches some footprints. Then dives into the thicket nearby.
"Huh. The Tsum just dove into a thicket. It was sticking to the footpaths before," Epel replies, confused.
"Let us follow suit. There may be a reason," Rook says.
Epel asks, "Are you sure about this...? Well, I might as well stick it out now..."
And soon, their little expedition is taking them into the woods behind the campus.
Epel feels frustrated, especially when getting poked, "Rgh, there's branches poking at me left and right...and I'm getting tired of crawling. How far is the Tsum gonna go?"
Then Rook notices, "Ah, he stopped. Now to see what's caught his attention..."
Suddenly, they hear a voice, "CUT!"
"Oho...?" Rook responds.
Turns out, Rook Tsum is peeking through the bushes to see the Film Club making a film on Main Street., and it appears to just finish it.
Vil walks over, "Show me the footage."
One of the film members shows Vil the film on the camera.
Observing it, Vil says, " ...Hm, yes, this came out nicely. A perfect performance if ever there was one," And announces, "Rehearsal is over. Now we must capture this scene before the sun sets. Focus!"
"Yes, sir!" Film Research Club Members respond.
Still in the woods, Epel whispers, "It's Vil and...the Film Research Club?" Confused, but then realizes, "Oh, they're filming on Main Street today."
The Rook Tsum happily jumps in response.
"Of course... No wonder you dove into the thicket," Rook says, "I understand, Monsieur Tsum. Sometimes one wishes to witness a thing of beauty without being part of the spectacle oneself...!"
"What do you mean?" Epel questions.
"After hearing what Vil was doing, he must have wanted to see him in his filming element. But he didn't want to disturb Vil or the rest of the club. Hence his wonderfully discrete choice to crawl through bushes instead. This spot is out of view of both the camera and the actors. It's a perfect place for observation," Rook explains.
Then turns to the Tsum, "Very good job finding it, Monsieur Tsum. I knew you held the same love for beauty that I do!"
Epel smiles, "Ahaha... You really are two peas in a pod..."
Rook smiles, "Ahh, the sight of Vil intent on his filming and the club members fervently supporting him is absolutely striking!"
"Okay, well, I'm gonna go now..." Epel says and about to take his leave.
But Rook says, "You mustn't, Epel. Your head will stick out from the bushes!"
"Wait... We have to stay like this until filming is completely over?!" Epel asks, stunned.
Rook shushes Epel, "Shh. Any loud chatter would also cause a disturbance. This is all in the name of researching beauty, Epel."
Epel groans in annoyance, "Rgh... I never should've come with you..."
"Now the real fun begins. Let us watch Vil and the rest of the club shine!" Rook says.
The Rook Tsum happily hops up and down, very eager to see more of Vil's performance.
