Chapter 5-9: Could You Tell Us...
The Harveston Sledathon Race finished with all three team racers crossing the finish line around the same time.
The announcer says, "After careful review of the footage..." as they watch the footage of the race, "We've determined that first place goes to... The Seven Swords!"
The Seven Swords happily cheers, "WE WON!"
The Apple Lanterns and Woodland Speeders are disappointed.
"We... We lost..." Epel says.
"To Royal Sword Academy..." Sebek says, frustrated.
"We let them turn things around at the last possible moment," Jade says.
Idia huffs, "I don't think I've run that much... in years... Ugh, this is why I shouldn't do stuff I'm bad at!"
Sereia sighs, "We were close to winning."
"And we lost," Jasper says.
"Yes, but we actually had a good time," Tanzanite says.
"I have to agree. We actually did well for our first time," Briar says.
Then the announcer says, "Let's give them all a big round of applause!"
One of the villagers says, "Shame our team didn't come in first, but BOY was that inspirin'!"
Another villager says, "What a touching show of friendship!"
"It sure was somethin' else! You young'uns fought the good fight!" Another villager says.
"Friendship...? That's the LAST thing we have! These people are off their rockers!" Idia replies.
Sebek responds, annoyed, "Rgh... To think that we're meeting this applause from second place..."
"Yes, it's terribly embarrassing," Jade says.
Soon, the Seven Swords walk over to the groups, "Hey, guys. Good racing out there!"
"You really gave us a run for our money at the end!" Grum says.
"Yeah, totally! We had such a fun time!" Hop happily says.
And Dominic says, "It was a solid race from start to finish. Everyone was so focused on sledding fast... We didn't even consider crossing the finish line on foot! That was pure genius!"
Epel remains silent and expresses his frustration, "This stinks."
"They don't have to gloat about it!" Sebek replies.
"I'm sure they didn't mean anything by it," Jade replies.
"That makes it worse, actually," Idia responds.
"Agreed," Jade replies.
Then the Seven Swords turn to the Woodland Speeders.
"Hey Jasper. Tanz. you guys were great out there," Grum says.
"Yeah. You and the girls were having a lot of fun," Hop says.
"Oh um, you did well for your first time," Timmy says, embarrassed.
Dominic also says, "I agree. You all did great for your first time that you placed in the top three. And it's nice that you checked on your friends, that was really sweet."
"Thank you Dominic, and congratulations on your first place win," Briar says.
"Yeah. You all did good," Sereia says.
"Yeah Dominic, you did great there. You too, Grum," Jasper says.
"And you were having a lot of fun, Hop," Tanzanite says.
Then turns to Timmy, "You too, Timmy. You did great. Despite being shy."
Shy, Timmy says, "Oh um, thank you, Tanzanite... gosh, this is embarrassing."
Soon, Marja walks over and says, "Well, time to give the victors a little congratulatory smooch. Bring those foreheads over here..." and give each of the racers a kiss.
The Seven Swords cheer, "Woo hoo!"
Grum laughs with a smile, "Wahahaha! Now we've got a whole year of good luck!"
"I couldn't ask for anything better," Dominic says.
Grim expresses his disappointment, "MAN! We lost to Royal Sword Academy!" Then turns to Epel, "Hey, Epel! You woulda won if I'd been racin', ya know!"
Epel remains silent in response.
Trinket tinks in concern and flies to Epel patting his cheek.
"Hm? What'sa matter?" Grim asks.
"Are you okay, Epel?" Briar asks.
"Epel looks rather upset," Sebek says.
"Yes, he was more invested in the sledathon than any of us," Jade says.
Then Idia remembers something, "Hey, I just remembered something..."
"What now?! Can't you see this isn't the time for random interjections?" Sebek questions.
And Idia asks, "What was all that stuff Epel was saying when we made the jump?"
"Your guess is as good as mine," Jade says, "From context, I'd guess it was something along the lines of, 'Let's give it our best.'"
"Or maybe something like, 'Time to push as hard as we can.'" Sebek says.
"Maybe it was some ancient incantation the rest of us don't know," Idia guessed.
"Somehow I doubt that..." Jade says.
"I don't know, whatever it is, he sounds kind of mad," Briar says.
"I don't think we should ask Epel about it right now, so why don't we ask Marja?" Jade says.
"Good idea, Jade," Sereia says.
He soon walks to Marja and asks, "Pardon me, Marja. Could you tell us what 'Quit'cher bellyachin' y'idjit" means?'"
"Oh, that means 'Stop whining, you idiot,'" Marja says.
"Yikes," Sereia says.
"Huh?!" India questions.
Then Sebek asks, "What about 'All y'all ain't worth a hoot'?"
"That's saying, 'You guys are worthless,'" Marja translates.
"What?!" Sebek exclaims.
"Oh dear, Epel must have been really mad," Briar replies.
Then Idia asks, "And, 'Ah'm so teed off Ah could spit'?"
"It means, 'I'm so angry, I could spit.' It's a figure of speech, y'see," Marja says.
The boys react, "HUH?!"
"Dude... Epel's kind of scary," Idia says.
"Yes, we've seen a new side of him today," Jade adds.
Sebek agrees, "Indeed we have..."
The twins nod their heads in response.
