Chapter 4-9: We Shall Reign Supreme!

"All right, I have a better grasp on the course layout," Sebek says and shouts, "NOW WE SHALL REIGN SUPREME!"

Idia yelps, "Eep!"

"Yikes," Sereia says.

Trinket also gets surprised.

Idia then calmly asks, "Hey, uh, Sebek? Could you please stop shouting right in our ears?"

"I AM NOT SHOUTING! THIS IS A NORMAL VOLUME!" Sebek says in a loud voice.

"I would beg to differ," Jade says.

"Yeah, seriously," Epel says.

"Yeah. your voice is really loud," Jasper says.

"No kidding," Tanzanite says.

Soon, Jade says, "Fun fact, I've heard that you could trigger an avalanche if you yell on a snowy mountain."

"What a load of unscientific nonsense. Human voices are barely a whisper as far as Mother Nature's concerned. The wind whipping through the mountains is way louder. Don't believe everything you hear," Idia says.

"Ah, I beg your pardon," Jade replies.

And Epel says, "I do feel better about our chances of winning, though! Okay guys. Now that we've done that, let's hit the hay. We've got an early day tomorrow."

"Hm? You mean you're not going back home?" Sebek asks.

"Well, it'd be awful rude to ditch you guys when you came all the way out here for me. Now go on, pick whichever cot you like," Epel says.

The group looks at the many different beds, or rather cot.

"We're sleeping on these...? Idia asks.

"They are rather... small," Jade says.

"They're small enough for Sereia and the twins to fit in," Briar says.

Sebek asks, "HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FIT ON ONE OF THOSE?!"

"People don't normally stay in the assembly hall, so it doesn't have proper beds. We borrowed some cots from folks nearby, but... they must've been for people of shorter stature. Grim, Sereia, the twins, Trinket, and I will be fine, but I guess you guys won't be able to comfortably fit on one," Epel says.

Then turns to Briar, "You think yours will be big enough, Briar?"

"Well, I'm kind of small myself, around 5 feet, but I think I can fit okay," Briar says.

"I think so too. It's just the other guys who are so dang tall," Epel says.

Then Grim asks, "Can't you just stick two cots end-to-end and lie on 'em that way?"

"You can do that?!" Sebek asks.

But Epel says, "Sorry guys. I think you're gonna have to just spread out some blankets and take the floor."

"Well, there's nothing for it," Sebek says.

"I don't mind at all," Jade says.

"I'll take one of the smol cots. It'll be fine if I just curl up," Idia says.

And Epel says, "All righty, then I'll turn out the lights. Good night every—"

Suddenly, grim calls out, "Wait, hold on! I got an emergency here!"

"What's wrong, Grim?" Epel asks.

Grim answers, "I'm hungry! I need a late-night snack!"

"Again?" Sereia asks.

"You just ate a whole feast!" Epel says.

"And you've eaten a while ago," Briar adds.

And Sebek shouts, "GO TO SLEEP!"

"Mrah..." Grim yelps.

Soon, everyone begins to turn in for the night to get some sleep.

"Good night, guys," Epel says.

Soon, everyone falls asleep for the night. Time has passed, and everyone's still asleep. Suddenly, the sound of a stomach growling causes everyone to wake up.

"Uh, guys? Am I the only one who can't sleep with Grim's stomach growling up a storm?" Idia asks.

"Maybe it would muffle the sound if we gave him more blankets," Jade says.

"My stomach would still be empty! That ain't gonna help," Grim says.

Epel giggles, "Heh heh... Ahaha!"

"Why are you laughing?" Grim asks.

"Sorry, it was just funny to me..." Epel says, "I've always wanted to do stuff like this with friends. I think I mentioned how there weren't any kids my age around here when I was growing up, so I just played with the adults. That's why I was so happy when my cousin was born. I was like, finally, someone younger than me! But even the cutest baby is still a baby. There's too much of an age gap for us to play together. I'm having such a blast with you guys."

"You didn't have anyone your age around, hm..." Epel says.

He then turns to the picture, "I suppose you were alone in that sepia-toned picture on the wall in your house as well."

"What picture are you talking about again?" Epel says, confused, "I know you brought it up after we'd changed clothes... But I don't remember any picture of me like that."

"It was on your living room wall. Quite a striking photo, really. You were wearing a dress," Sebek says, pointing to the photo.

Everyone looks over to see a photo og Epel, in a lovely looking dress.

"Yes, it was a lovely portrait. Very charming," Jade says.

"Wow. you look so pretty," Sereia says.

"I really like the dress," Briar says.

Trinket also smiles.

"I didn't expect you to be wearing a dress," Jasper says.

"Me neither," Tanzanite says.

Epel looks at the photo and realizes, "Wait, I know what picture you mean! That's not me. It's my grandma when she was young."

Everyone exclaims in shock, "Wait, WHAT?!"

"That's your grandmother?!" Sereia asks, shocked.

"Wow. She looks just like you, or rather, you look just like her," Briar says.

Epel giggles, "Thank you."

Tanzanite yawns and asks, "Can we please, go to bed now?"

"Yeah. I'm pretty tired," Sereia says.

"Okay. Let's get to bed, and be ready for tomorrow," Epel says.
