Chapter 2-1: Mother Nature's Majesty

In no time, Briar, Epel, and the others arrive at their destination, Harveston. Harveston is a large mountain forest area that is covered in snow. The group soon arrived at the entrance to their destination. There is a sign that reads 'Harveston," with a light post close by on the left. There is also a map on the right side. Alongside, there are a large variety of apple trees covered in snow.

Ending up here, Idia yelps, "Welp...I'm here. What do I do now...?"

"You okay, Idia? Epel asks.

"You don't look so good," Briar replies.

Idia yelps, "Eep!" and brings out his tablet, "Just forget I'm here. Pretend I'm a bug and ignore me."

"Um, I can't really do that," Epel replies.

Grim looks around, "So this is Harveston! Just snow, mountains, and a whole lotta nothin' else!"

"Grim," Sereia replies, annoyed.

Epel feels offended, "Excuse you! You could at least acknowledge the grand, sweeping vista. Clear skies, mountains lining the horizon, crisp clean air... Can't you taste the true majesty of Mother Nature?"

"I ain't tastin' nothin'..." Grim says.

Epel takes a deep breath, "Mmm! Now THIS is fresh air!"

Sebek remains silent.

Epel turns to Sebek and asks, "What's the matter, Sebek? You're shivering."

"N... Nothing at all," Sebek answers.

"Are you sure? You don't look very good," Briar asks, worried.

"You're pale as a sheet and your lips are goin' blue," Epel says.

"No, really, I'm fine..." Sebek says, but ends up sneezing, "Ah... AH... ACHOO! Erk..."

"Might you be cold, Sebek?" Eepl asks.

And with frustration, "Rgh..." Sebek confesses, " All right, I have a confession to make...

I do not fare well in cold weather. No matter how hard I train myself, I simply cannot overcome it."

"Golly..." Epel says.

"I never knew you had such a weakness," Jade says.

And Epel says, "It's nice and cool here from spring to autumn. But it gets downright frigid in the winter, and boy howdy, do we ever get snow."

"It's no surprise the cold doesn't bother Epel since he grew up here, but what of you, Jade? You look completely unfazed," Sebek says.

And Jade says, "Oh, I grew up in a much colder and quieter place than this."

"I'm fine and dandy too! I got this nice, thick coat to keep me warm," Grim says.

"Honestly, I'm actually kind of cold myself," Briar says.

"Me too," Sereia says.

Even Trinket is shivering that she hides in Briar's hair.

"Well, we're just wearing our school uniforms, after all. Even I'm a little chilly right now," Epel says.

"Well, I'm not cold myself," Jasper says.

"Me neither. We did grew up in these parts," Tanzanite says.

Then Epel reassures, "Don't worry, though. I've made sure you'll all have something warm to wear while we're here. You'll get your outfits as soon as we get to my house."

"...Much obliged," Sebek says.

Then Idia asks, "So, um... Epel. I spy a distinctive, snow-capped mountain in the distance. Is that..."

Mount Moln?!" Jade & Idia ask.

"Yup! That's the symbol of Harveston right there," Epel answers with a smile.

Idia shouts, "KNEW IT. Ohhh, man! I can't believe I'm seeing it with my own two eyes!"

"What a sublime figure it cuts against the sky. It's every bit as breathtaking as I imagined it would be," Jade says.

"The mountains and snow look just like a Sled Over Heels episode! Oh, how my fanboy heart sings!" Idia says.

And Jade says, "I know exactly how you feel, Idia. As a mountain connoisseur, I find this terribly exciting."

"Well, Idia's back to normal! That's a relief," Epel says.

Grim responds with a frown, "Those two are way too pumped about this."

"I never knew they both had such a soft spot for Mount Moln. It's kinda flattering, actually," Epel happily says, "Mount Moln is 2,469 meters tall, and it's one of three particularly high mountains in this range. The woodlands surrounding it are filled with natural splendors... But the mountain also gets a lot of snow, given its elevation. It's snow capped year round. Having that contrast of snow above and forest below makes for an amazing view. it deserves every bit of its fame!"

"I can see Epel's love for this place shines just as bright as Idia and Jade's admiration. And it's certainly a majestic mountain. There are so many clouds around its peak, I can't see the top," Sebek says.

Then Epel says, "'Moln' means cloud, actually. It's named for the fluffy clouds that usually cover its peak."

"And that's where we'll be racing? It must be even colder up there... That's going to be troublesome," Sebek says.

Then Epel says, "Here's another fun fact! All the greenery around here is because of spring water from the mountain. We use that for water for irrigation as well, which really helps our crops flourish. That's one reason why most of our villagers work on farms. Oh, look over there! You can see some farmers pruning the apple trees!"

Sebek notices the orchard himself, "What vast orchards. Apples as far as the eye can see."

"Wow. It all looks so pretty," Sereia says.

"Yup! Most of the land here is used for orchards..." Epel says, "And most of what we grow are apples. They're Harveston's main produce. Other places can only harvest apples at certain times of the year... But we grow so many different varieties that we're able to harvest all year round. Our winter apples are unique to Harveston, you know."

"Oho. So you mean we wouldn't see these trees bursting with apples anywhere else during the winter?" Sebek asks.

"That's right. Fall's still our biggest harvest season, mind you..." Epel says, "But when a huge harvest goes on the market all at once, you see a huge drop in price, right? So we've cultivated apple breeds we can pick in every season."

"In a way, these apples represent the farmers' collective wisdom and hard work," Jade says.

"They taste different, too. Fall apples are sweet, while winter ones are more sour," Epel says.

"Really?" Briar asks.

"Sour apples? Why would anyone want those?" Idia says.

"Just add a little sugar, and they make real good jams and pies. We don't just sell the fruit, you see. We make tons of apple products too," Epel says.
