Chapter 29 Midnight Stranger

(Y/n) was trying to get some sleep after a tiring day of investigating and fighting off Leona and his dorm mates. She turns to her side to see Kiki sleeping peacefully and Grim sleep-talking again. He lets out a snore. "Mmm. Didja see that...Totally wrecked 'em with my power shot..." Grim drooled a bit. (Y/n) sat up on the bed. "Ha, Grim's sleeping talking is a bit cute." Seeing that she wasn't tired yet, (Y/n) grabbed a sweater and went out of the room. She went to the other room to check on the she-beasts. She smiled softly as they slept peacefully. She decided to walk outside the dorm to clear her mind.

Once outside, (Y/n) felt the cold wind blow through her hair. "My, it's a bit windy. It's a good thing I've grown used to the cold thanks to Kuai Liang." She smiled but it slowly died down. Remembering her training with Kuai Liang had brought up some memories from both Earthrealm and Outworld. "I hope everyone back home is alright." She sighed. She suddenly heard a branch snap and footsteps coming closer to her. She turned to see a boy with horns on his head. "Hm? Who's that over there?" He questioned. (Y/n) got into a fighting stance. "A trespasser?!"

"Well, this is a surprise. A child of man, are you?" The boy with horns questioned with a hum. Once he was closer, (Y/n) realized that he wasn't an intruder but a student. He was wearing the school uniform with a green armband. "Oh, you're a student like me. I apologize, I thought you were an intruder." (Y/n) stood up straight. "Do you live here? I was under the impression that this dorm had been abandoned for some time." He stood in front of her. He looks up at the dorm as he pouts. "I quite enjoy having a place where I could go to enjoy the peace of solitude."

"Forgive me for asking, but who are you?" (Y/n) asked. This shocked the boy. "Who am I...? You really don't know who I am? Interesting. What is your name?" He smirked as he rubbed his chin. "I'm the dorm prefect, Princess (Y/n)." (Y/n) bowed her head. "(Y/n)... An unusual name, yet lovely. And you say you are a princess. I am... No, never mind. I'd rather you remain unaware." The boy with horns said. "It's for your own benefit, I assure you. Instead, I will permit you to call me by a name of your choosing. Although you may one day regret it..." He smirked.

'Now, I'm starting to wonder if everyone in this school is unusual.' (Y/n) thought.

"But alas..." The boy with horns views Ramshackle one more time. "If you have taken up residence here, then this abandoned dorm is no longer "abandoned." Pity." He shakes his head. "I shall have to find some other ruins for my next nocturnal constitutional. Farewell." He turns to walk away. "Wait!" (Y/n) called out. He turns to look at her. "If you like, you are always welcome back to Ramshackle whenever you'd like. This was originally your place for a walk. If you'd like I could prepare some tea as well." (Y/n) offered with a warm smile. His eyes slowly widen. "Are you inviting me back to this dorm? And for tea?" He asked. "Of course, if you'd like." She smiled. He smiled as he laughed. "You're quite fearless, Princess. I respect that and I accept your offer." He walked closer to her. He gently held her hand and kissed it. "Until we meet again." Then he used his magic to disappear, leaving behind some fireflies as they faded away. "And he's gone..." (Y/n) just smiled. After all, she was in Night Raven College and anything can happen here. She walked back inside and decided it was time for bed.

In Savanaclaw Dorm, Leona was in his room relaxing in his bed as the door opened. It reveals Ruggie carrying a tray of food. "You must be tired, Leona. I've brought you dinner. And on the way, I got a little "work" done." He placed the food down next to Leona. "Always there when I need ya, Ruggie." Leona sat up. "Oh, it's a pleasure to be of service to you, Housewarden." Ruggie gave a playful bow. "You always say that, don't you? Even though you're really doing this for yourself." Leona began to eat his food.

"Perish the thought, Leona! It's a pleasure to be of service to OUR cause." Ruggie waved his hand dismissively. "All of us want to turn the world upside down. That's precisely why the hyenas joined hands with the King of Beasts in the first place—to improve their lot in life forevermore. I'm pretty much doing the same thing." He added about the King of Beasts. "Then make sure you're careful on your "hunts." Don't leave any evidence behind." Leona takes a sip of his drink. "Shyeheehee! You should know how hyenas work. We pick our prey clean to the bone. Incidentally, Leona—any thoughts as to who my next target should be?" Ruggie asked as he snickered. "Oh, I've got an idea. How about a little wolf who likes to eavesdrop?" Leona looked over his doorway. This confused Ruggie as he looked back. "Huh?"

"I know you're there, frosh. No use hiding." Leona called out. Coming inside his room was Jack as he held his guard up. He didn't say anything as he waited for his dorm leader to speak up. "And what are YOU doin' up so late? Need someone to sing you a lullaby?" Leona narrowed his eyes at Jack. "Maybe I'll give it a shot! Shyeheehee!" Ruggie playfully raised his hand. "I want to know why. Why are you two doing this?" Jack questioned with a glare.

"Huh. So it's a bedtime story you're after. All right, I got one for you." Leona stood up from his bed. "We went up against Malleus's Diasomnia team in round one of the tournament two years running. We were eliminated both times. We got a wall fulla championship trophies, but they ran circles around us like we were still in diapers. And that disgrace was broadcast to the entire world." Leona paced around the room as he explained why he planned everything. "I looked like an incompetent moron. And now the pro league recruiters, well, they pass right by Savanaclaw." He stopped his pacing.

"But that's because we weren't good enough!" Jack argued back. "You're right about that. Last year, you could certainly say that we didn't give the tournament our all. Only a total moron would have thought we could win. But that's how naïve we were. We never even came up with a plan or nothin'. And we've got the nerve to claim Savanaclaw honors the tenacity of the King of Beasts! What a joke." Leona rolled his eyes in anger. "But that's exactly why acting like cowards and cutting down our opponents is so wrong!" Jack continued to argue back.

"Wrong," you say? Jack, who do you think I'm doing this for? I'm thinkin' about you and your dormmates here! This is about crushing Malleus and restoring Savanaclaw's reputation!" Leona resumed his pacing. The headmage said if we don't win this year, Malleus is getting inducted into the hall of fame. That means this is our last chance to beat him. And you're gonna throw it away over...what?" He stopped and looked over at Jack. "Some moral superiority complex?"

"But... I..." Jack didn't know how to respond to his dorm leader. "Using your wits to corner your prey is part of the hunt. There's nothing cowardly about it." Leona used the hunting analogy. "Shyeheehee! Night Raven operates on the survival of the fittest. Nice guys don't last long here." Ruggie agreed as he smirked. "But Housewarden, if you got serious about playing, we could actually be a threat to Diasomnia! I saw the way you played three years ago! I'll never forget it!" Jack tried to reason with Leona. "What do YOU know about ANYTHING, frosh?! You want me to "get serious about playing"? Hah! Now you're the one who's naïve. It wouldn't change a thing." Leona stood in front of Jack. He pushed him roughly on his shoulder. "Get outta my sight."

Jack wanted to say more, but he couldn't find the right words. Listening to his Housewarden's orders, he left Leona's room. Once Jack was gone, Ruggie looked around outside before he turned to Leona. "That boy could be a problem. You want me to take care of him?" He asked. "No. Don't.!Even if he goes and blabs it all to Crowley, he ain't got a shred of proof. And besides, that'd be a terrible waste of talent. Just make sure you keep an eye on him." Leona shook his head as he gave Ruggie his instructions. "Understood." Ruggie nodded as he turned to take his leave. Before he could go, Leona called out to him. "One more thing, Ruggie. Keep an eye on that herbivore princess with those beasts of hers. She may pose a threat to our plan." Leona instructed. Ruggie nodded and him and heads back to his own room. As Leona was alone with his thoughts, he bared his fangs as he clenched his fists in anger. "Tch. Stupid frosh... Talkin' like he's better than me."
