Chapter 23 Chaotic Lunch
(Since Twisted Wonderland is doing a Savanaclaw showcase for Mufasa: The Lion King, I thought I would publish a few new chapters of the book. I hope you all enjoy it!)
In a dark void, (Y/n) wakes up to find herself lying in the middle of nowhere. "I guess I'm doing this again." (Y/n) said to herself. She tried to see what her surroundings were this time but it was still dark she noticed some objects in the distance. "I can hear the wind"
Then the sun began to rise into the sky. Her eyes widened when she noticed that she was in an African jungle, surrounded by cheetahs, zebras, elephants, etc. "Animals! They're everywhere!" (Y/n) smiled. She noticed them heading in one direction. As she was walking she noticed she was at Pride Rock and the king was standing over his subjects along with his queen. "Lions are up there." (Y/n) grinned. She then noticed a mandrill holding a lion cub and presented him to the entire kingdom. They cheered and rejoiced at the sight of their future king as they finally gave him a bow. "Now I understand why people call this the animal kingdom." (Y/n) wanted to see more but her surroundings turned black again.
(Y/n) opens her eyes to see that she is back at Ramshackle dorm, in her room. "Well, I guess I better get ready for school." She got up and went to change into her uniform. Once she was back, she was going to wake up Grim and Kiki. "Myaaah! Meeeooow! Myah myaaah..." Grim flips and flops in his sleep. "Was that supposed to be a roar?" (Y/n) smirked. "Myaaah... Thass whatchu get......fer crossin' Grim da Miiightyyy..." Grim snores. "Oh, Grim. What am I going to do with him?" (Y/n) shakes her head. "Grim, Kiki. Time to wake up. "That's right! Cower before me, teapot tyrant! BWUH-MYAH?!" Grim wakes up to see it was just a dream. "...Huh? Where am I? Aw, man! I was dreaming that I was trouncing Riddle with my magic. You shoulda seen his face..." Grim rubbed his eyes. Kiki woke up and happily climbs onto (Y/n)'s shoulders. "I will not lie. Those days were rough but glad everything worked out." (Y/n) nods her head. "All right, lemme just fix my bedhead. Then it's off to class! I've got magic to master!" Grim hops off the bed and heads to the mirror.
After finishing their first classes, (Y/n) and Grim were heading towards the cafeteria with Ace and Deuce. "Ugh. Professor Trein must have cast a sleepin' spell on me. I fought to stay awake, but he was sooo boring!" Grim yawned as he sat on (Y/n)'s shoulders. "Yeah, "fought," sure. I heard you snoring five minutes in." Deuce reminded them. "Grub time! What's it gonna be today?" Ace opens the door but stops when he notices how crowded it is. "Huh, wait? What's going on? Why's it so crowded in here?" One of the ghost chefs floats over to them. "That famous bakery from out of town is serving up their goods. It only happens once a month! Their stock sells out fast, so you'd better hurry!" He then floats away.
"Gimme three of those chocolate croissants!"
"Woo-hoo, I actually snagged an egg sandwich this month! These things are AMAZING!"
"Egg sandwiches are now sold out! Only one deluxe ham and cheese left!" The ghost chief called out. "Oh, man, everything looks amazing. I'm gonna see if I can grab somethin'." Ace looks over the food. "The smell is heavenly as well." (Y/n) could smell the delicious food where she stands. "Wow, they really do seem popular! (Y/n), Grim, what do you-Huh?" Deuce paused his question. Even (Y/n) noticed Grim was off her shoulders. "Grim! Where did you run off to now?!" (Y/n) nearly panicked but she groaned in frustration when she saw in cutting in line.
"Hey! Outta my way, losers! That grilled cheese is mine!" Grim off over the students' heads and shoulders as he was able to snag the last grilled cheese.
"Hey, no cutting!"
"A freshman, cutting in front of an upperclassman?! Time to learn you some manners."
The trio of freshmen were embarrassed by Grim making a ruckus again. And they knew they had to stop him before the other students got him. "He's got such a one-track mind when it comes to food!" Deuce's eyes widen as Ace sighs in annoyance. "Elder gods, give me strength." (Y/n) groans as she tries to catch Grim. She was thankful that this challenge was easy and quickly snatched Grim in her arms before a fight could start. Grim was completely oblivious of course. "Ha! Guess who scored the last deluxe grilled cheese sandwich? This guy. That's why they call me Grim the Great! Myahahaha! I also snagged a bear claw AND a cronut!" Grim cheered as he held his treats. "Grim, enough!" (Y/n) held Grim close to ensure he didn't get loose. Deuce walked over to them. "Grim, you need to learn some restraint! I'm really sorry, guys." Deuce apologized to the other students. Ace cuts in line and orders his food. "Yo, Pops, gimme one of those roast beef sandwiches."
"Ace, really?!" (Y/n) shook her head. "Hey! You're cutting in line too!" Deuce exclaimed. "Could we please just grab our food and go sit down?" (Y/n) begged as she was already tired from all the chaos that was happening. "Yeah, we should do that." Deuce nodded as he helped (Y/n) grab some food. Once their food was paid for, they quickly found a table to sit at. "Grim, never do that again. Ace, never leave us like that again." (Y/n) glared at them as the boys shivered in fear at her glare.
As they were eating, they didn't notice Ruggie rushing into the cafeteria. He looks around and sighs in exhaustion. "Rats. Looks like I'm late for the monthly bakery battle royale. And now they're sold out of the grilled cheese Leona sent me to buy for him." Before he could walk out, he noticed Grim holding the grilled cheese. "Myahahaha! I'm gonna savor the flavor of this victory!" Grim laughed. "Please just eat, Grim." (Y/n) took a bite of her own sandwich. Ruggie grinned as he walked over to their table. "Pardon me, friend. I see you were able to get your hands on the highly-prized deluxe cheese sandwich. Incredible!"
"Hm? Who're you and whaddaya want with my meat?" Grim glares as he holds his grilled cheese. "Oh, I'm just a guy who really, really wanted to buy that sandwich you've got there, but arrived a smidge too late. Speaking of which, here's a proposition for you...Might you be willing to trade your deluxe grilled cheese for this very exciting hot dog bun?" Ruggie pulls out the hot dog bun. "Whaaat?! You must be outta your mind, dude!" Grim rapidly shook his head. "Oh, come now. Let's not be like that. Here, have the hot dog bun. I insist." Ruggie offers to trade. "Myah? What in the name of tuna...?! My paws are movin' on their own!" Grim "willingly" hands Ruggie his grilled cheese and take the hot dog bun. "Okay, I never thought I'd see the day when Grim would trade his food." (Y/n) blinked at the scene. "Sounds like we have ourselves a deal! Shyeheehee!" Ruggie laughed. "What luck that I found a kind soul willing to trade. You enjoy that hot dog bun, I do hope you can find something to fill it with. Maybe a squirt of ketchup would imitate the real thing? Anyway, nice doing business with you. Toodles!" Ruggie waved as he walked away.
"M... M... Myaaaaaaah! My deluxe grilled cheeeeeeese!" Grim cried out. The others just stared at him as he sadly ate the hot dog bun. "Aw, maaan...This is..." He sniffed and munched on his food. "The worst day.....of my pathetic life!
I can barely.....choke down my lunch!" He took the last bite of his food. "You just ate three pastries in ten seconds." Ace shook his head. "I still don't get why you even traded at all." Deuce said. "I'm still processing what I've witnessed." (Y/n) added. "I didn't! It's like, when he put out his hand, my paw just shot out—like it was copyin' his! It all happened so fast..." Grim tried to explain. "Like a deer caught in the sandwich-stealing headlights." Ace joked. "Nah, it wasn't like that at all. But I...I don't know how to explain it! Ugh, this stinks. I need to eat my feelings, stat! Deuce, gimme a bite of your pasta." Grim tried to grab Deuce's pasta. Deuce quickly pulled his food away. "No way! You made your "bread," now lie in it!"
Ace suddenly remembered something. "Oh, by the way, guys—the headmage said he had something he wanted to tell us after class.
No clue what it could be, though." Deuce looked over at him. "It probably has something to do with what happened to Housewarden Rosehearts a few days ago." Ace nodded. "When he went all berserker mode on us? Yeah, I bet you're right." (Y/n) placed her hand on her heart. "I'm just glad that he's recovered and well." Grim climbed on the table. "Maybe he wants to lavish me with a smorgasbord of succulent fish for all of my hard work that day!" Ace just smiled at him. "Yeah, dream on, furball." (Y/n) grabs hold of the monster feline. "Grim, it's rude to me on the table." She then looks back at the cafeteria doors where Ruggie exited. "I feel like I've seen that student somewhere before."
Ruggie had entered the Botanical Garden as he searched for his Housewarden. "Leooona! Lunch is served, my friend!" He spotted Leona napping underneath a tree. Leona yawns as he wakes up. "...Is it noon already?"
"Don't tell me you've been asleep all morning! You're going to fail more of your core classes!" Ruggie scolded. Leona sniffed the air. "Smells like you actually got what I asked ya for!" Ruggie gives him the food and drink. "Barely! Must you always request the most popular item on bakery day? Anyway, here: one deluxe grilled cheese and an iced tea." Leona takes his lunch. "Are ya braindead? The fact that it's hard to get is exactly what makes me want it so bad!" He then takes a bite of the sandwich. "Me, I'll eat anything, so long as it isn't moldy. But as a prince, I doubt you could relate, Your Highness." Ruggie gave Leona a playful bow. Leona scoffs at him. "Hmph. It ain't like I'm first in line for succession. I'm second, so I probably won't ever be king. I'm practically a commoner, really."
"That reminds me of the time you mistook a picture of my family's home for a doghouse." Ruggie grumbles at the memory. "Did I...really do that?" Leona tilted his head. "You really did. I wish my perspective was so warped from a life of luxury." Ruggie placed his hand on his hip. "Nah, the royal life stinks, honestly. All that matters is the order of your birth. Hard work and talent basically mean nothin'." Leona takes a sip of his iced tea. "Hmmm... I guess I could see that being a drag. Oh, by the way, there's a Housewarden meeting after school today about the Spelldrive tournament. Please try to actually show up." Ruggie reminded him. "Ugh. What a headache." Leona groans as he rubs his head. "As the Housewarden, you get the biggest room in the dorm. You could at least make a token effort to do the corresponding job." Ruggie told. "All right already. Fine. Stop whinin'." Leona finished his lunch. "Ahhh... Now that my belly's full, I'm ready for another snooze. Wake me after lunch break is over." Leona goes back to lie down in the shade. "I'm not your alarm clock, Leona! You know I have my own—ah, he's already out." Ruggie was shocked, then he sighed as he walked off. As he was walking he couldn't help but wonder about something. "Anyway, that weasel in the cafeteria and that girl... Where have I seen them before?"
