Chapter 9: Extremely Bad Feeling

Ace turns to Ortho and asks, "So, Ortho. Did Leona and Riddle reach out to you too?"

"No, my presence was requested by Vil Schoenheit and Professor Divus Crewel," Ortho says.

"Ortho is essential for your success at the fashion show. Do you recall the theme?" Vil says.

"Evolution, right?" Jack guesses.

"Yes," Vil answers, "I've been pondering that concept since Sam shared it with us. What does the host wish to express with this theme? And what do the guests hope to see?"

"Can't we just wear something that works and call it good?" Ace asks.

"Foolish pup," Crewel says, "You cannot simply don a flashy outfit and showboat around. The most significant part of dressing for a fashion show is how you construct and deconstruct the theme."

"Yes, how you interpret the concept is key... which brings me to my inspiration," Vil says, "A being who is constantly evolving, clad in the latest technology. And more to the point, one who underwent a splendid rebirth, more emblematic of change than any living person. No one is more fitting for the theme of evolution than Ortho Shroud."

Ortho giggles, "Eh heh heh. You can imagine my surprise when they showed up at my dorm talking about a fashion show..."

Flashback:

In the Ignihyde Dorm, Idia's Room, Idia is still well, unsettled about the whole thing.

Idia lets out a groan, "Ugh, that pointless housewarden meeting is finally over."

"Good work, Idia," Ortho says.

"I only managed to make it through because you were running cold air. Thanks for that," Idia says.

"You're welcome!" Ortho says, "Still, a Fairy Gala at our school? Things are getting pretty wild."

"No kidding. They even asked me to take part in the fashion show! The sheer lack of consideration is mind-boggling," Idia says.

"Wow, they did? Yeah... I guess you're right," Ortho replies, "I can't imagine what they expect, but I kinda would've liked to see you do it."

"ME?" Idia questions, and says, "Dude, are you kidding? Who would voluntarily sign up to parade themselves in front of a crowd? If anything, I feel bad for Jack and Ace getting stuck with such a garbage job. RIP those guys."

"You think? It sounds really neat to me. It's not every day we get to see the Fairy Gala.

And a fashion show sounds like fun..." Ortho says, sounding interested and excited.

Suddenly, they hear a knock on the door.

"Hey, someone's at the door," Ortho says and heads to the door, "Coming! Just getting the lock."

Ortho unlocks the door, and opens to see Vil and Crewel.

"That was slow. I expect my dogs to come immediately when I call them," Crewel says.

"Oh, hello Professor Divus Crewel. What brings you here?" Ortho replies.

"We have something important to discuss with you, Ortho," Vil says.

Ortho notices, "Vil Schoenheit, you're here as well? And you both want to speak with me?"

Idia becomes concerned and says, ""Oh no. I've got an extremely bad feeling about this! Danger, Ortho, danger! Run!"

Flashback Ends:

Ortho explains, "Idia was very opposed to the idea. He said it was far too dangerous... But I really wanted to go to the gala, so he eventually caved after I pleaded enough."

"Your fake crying was rather impressive, I must say," Vil says.

"Thank you, Vil Schoenheit! Hearing you say that makes me feel better about my acting," Ortho says, happily.

"Now that I think about it, Ortho DOES fit the evolution theme perfectly. You'll be a huge help for sure," Ace says.

"I agree. You practically scream evolution," Briar says.

"I'm happy to be here. You won't regret bringing me along," Ortho says.

"We're glad that you can join us," Sereia says.

"I'm glad as well. I think you might be good for evolution as well," Ortho says.

"I hope," Sereia says.

"Glad to have you with us," Silver says.

Then Vil says, "Now that we've settled the roster, we haven't a moment to lose. We need to start preparing for the show straight away."

"We'll begin by getting the four of you proper outfits.

Briar, Sereia, Ace, Jack, and Ortho say, "Right!"

Then Riddle says, "We've done all we can to help. The future of our school lies in your hands. I'm counting on you, Ace. I give you my word that when you return, you'll find not a single rose has wilted in your absence."

"I hope you show some proper appreciation when I get back," Ace says.

Just do what you usually do. Don't psych yourself out and screw up," Leona says.

"Yes, sir. You can count on me!" Jack says.
