Chapter 77: The Game's at its End
Soon, a voice calls out, "IDIA! BRIAR!"
Soon, Idia wakes up, "Huh?!"
Briar also wakes up with a gasp, "Huh?"
"You're both finally awake," The voice says. "Go on, then get the Cerberus System back online."
What happened...?" Idia asks. He then looks around, "Wait, where's Ortho?"
"...l'm afraid I couldn't save him," The voice says.
The pair soon look to see an elderly man, but he is wearing a familiar uniform and crown.
The elderly man says, "It was all I could do to pull you and Grim out when you fell into the Underworld. And Briar, you suddenly lost consciousness."
Idia yelps, "BWHA?! Who are YOU?!"
"Rude much?" The elderly man says, offended, It's me, of course. Vil Schoenheit. Don't you see the tiara I'm wearing? You know, the symbol of the Pomefiore housewarden?"
India and Briar are shocked.
"Wh... Huh? But you're all shriveled," Idia says, flabbergasted.
Vil once again, feeling offended, "Excuse you! I prefer 'radiating history and tradition.'"
Briar asks, "Vil, are you okay? You look very weakened."
"Yes. But luckily, you didn't suffer as badly as I did," Vil says.
"What?" Briar asks.
Briar soon looks at herself and touches her hair. She soon notices that her black hair has turned completely gray, and she feels her body weakened and tired. What's more, she also notices that her left eye is blurry, while her right eye seems fine.
Then Epel explains to Idia, "Vil and Briar dove after you guys into the Underworld. That's why they look like that."
"You actually followed me down there? That was stupid reckless..." Idia says, shocked.
"It was reckless, but we knew that we needed to save you and Grim," Briar says.
And sadly says, "Sadly, we weren't able to save Ortho."
Then Vi says to Idia, "Idia, it's YOUR job to close the Underworld gate and get the Cerberus System running again. That's why I brought you back out."
"Man, Vil... Your face used to look like CG, and now it's all wrinkly. Your back's stooped, and your hair's scraggly..." Idia says, somewhat annoyed.
Vil scoffs, "Hmph. What of it? Even though I'm grimy, withered, and emaciated... At this exact moment, I am the fairest one of all." and able to say it with pride.
The others are speechless, and soon smile.
"Oh, Vil..." Rook says.
Then Vil says to Idia with his arms crossed, "I'm waiting, Idia. You made this mess. Now clean it up."
"...Fine. We lost, fair and square," Idia says, admitting defeat.
And with that, Idia casts his magic, "Game, set, match... Gate to the Underworld."
Soon, the Gate of the Underworld begins to close.
"The gate's closing," Rook says.
Then Vil says, "When Briar and I followed you into the Underworld... You and Grim came free of Ortho's crumbling form. That's how we got you both out."
Then Idia mutters to himself, "'You shouldn't come here yet,' huh....." He then softly smiles, "I'll see you again someday, Ortho."
Idia feels something touch on his shoulder and look to see Briar.
She smiles and says, "I'm sure you'll see your brother again, someday."
"Yes. I'm sure I will," Idia says.
Soon, the gate completely closes and everyone reverts back to normal.
"At least things'll finally calm down now. Sheesh..." Leona says, feeling exhausted.
"No kidding," Jamil says, "That should stop all the blot coming up from the Underworld. That just leaves..."
Vil then says to Idia, "Quickly, Idia. Get the Cerberus System —hrk..." and feels weakened and he collapses on his knees.
Rook, Epel, and Sereia cry out, "Vil!"
