Chapter 66: Downward Trek Tower 2 Part 9

After the ambush, Jamil uses his magic, and is able to defeat the Phantom. Once defeated, the Phantom has melted into a puddle of black ink.

Jamil sighs in relief, "Phew. Are you and Jasper all right, Leona?"

"We're okay," Jasper says.

Leona however, "Am I all right? REALLY? What's your problem?"

"Huh? What do you mean?" Jamil asks, confused.

"Last I checked, I wasn't such a lousy fighter that I needed someone like you covering me," Leona says, annoyed.

"I wasn't implying anything of the sort..." Jamil says.

"I ignored that spell because I can guard against it. Of course I knew there were Phantoms coming. Fighting on a narrow staircase would be a colossal waste of time, so I was PLANNING to lure them into the passage there. But you messed that up. And you think you helped me? I knew you were arrogant before, but man," Leona angrily says.

Jamil then says, "You should've told me if you had a plan. I don't appreciate you blaming me for not being a mind YOU'RE the one who told me to suit myself. I took what I thought was the best course of action."

"Yeah, I said that. But I DIDN'T say you could slow me down," Leona says.

"Excuse me?!" Jamil questions.

"You got injured back there. Don't even bother trying to hide it. Enemies can smell weakness. Don't you realize the danger you've put us in? If I'd known you were gonna act like this, I would've taken that octaplicitous cephahlo-punk in a heartbeat. Now I'm saddled with extra weight," Leona says.

"Extra weight? Are you serious?" Jamil angrily says, feeling offended, "Unlike Azul, I have actual training as a bodyguard. There's no question I'm more useful than someone who's so utterly lacking in physical stamina. I won't let anything bad happen to you. Surely someone as intelligent as yourself would be able to appreciate that."

"You really don't get it, do you? That's sad," Leona says.

"What...?" Jamil questions.

Soon, Leona looks ahead, "And here's our door. Looks like we've reached the next containment facility." and takes his leave.

"Wait, we're not done here!" Jamil shouts.

He then scoffs, "Hmph. He'll be in for a very rude awakening if he keeps acting like this. And then he'll rue the day he ignored my advice."

Jasper sighs, "Come on, let's go after him. And Jamil."

"Yes, Jasper?" Jamil questions.

"I get that you want to help him, but you should also be careful as well. And who knows, maybe Leona may know what he's talking about. But I'm not sure. I can hardly understand what he thinks," Jasper says.

"Maybe... anyway, we should get going," Jamil says.

"Right. We don't want to be left behind," Jasper says.

And with that, the two follow Leona to the next facility.
