As Y/N lay with her newborn baby boy tucked in her arms, the door to the hospital room flew open, and she and Jungkook looked up. Taehyung swaggered inside, looking both irritated and excited, already seemingly plotting on something. "Didn't think you'd show up," Jungkook said, trying to lighten the mood in the room.
"Where's my godson?" he bellowed, foregoing all formalities as his deep voice boomed in the small room.
Jungkook sighed dramatically, shaking his head. "Taehyung, he was born like an hour ago. Chill."
Taehyung raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms. "Chill? My godson was born, and you didn't call me straight away? I had to find out from your mom, Jungkook. That is so unacceptable." He gave a playful glare at Jungkook before his eyes turned back to Y/N, beaming through exhaustion.
"Taehyung, meet our son," she said softly, nodding to the baby cradled in her arms. "You've done well," Taehyung said, his eyes meeting Y/N's for a moment, holding her gaze a bit too long before moving back to the baby.
Taehyung's face softened but only for a second before he smirked. "Hand him over. I need to make sure he's not as ugly as Jungkook was as a baby."
Jungkook groaned, rolling his eyes. "He's not your kid, Tae."
Taehyung hushed him, passing closer to Y/N as his intense gaze locked onto hers. "Y/N, who do you trust more? Me or that idiot over there?" he asked, jerking a thumb in Jungkook's direction.
Jungkook snorted. "Yeah, watch it! That's my wife and my son!"
Y/N chuckled as their banter amused her. Slowly, she handed the baby over to Taehyung, whose cocky smirk went away instantly when he took the little bundle into his arms. His eyes went wide, and for one moment, he looked totally out of his element. Then, in an instant, he composed himself once again, the soft look in his eyes now all for the newborn in his arms.
"He's. .so small and pretty," Taehyung whispered, and the seriousness in his voice took Y/N's breath away. Though still rough around the edges, cocky and overconfident, for one moment, Taehyung melted as he drew the baby closer, gazing at him in wonder.
Jungkook watched this through and crossed his arms over his chest. "See? I told you. He's not ugly like you said."
And in a heartbeat, Taehyung was looking at Jungkook with a mischievous grin. "Give him a few years. He might grow into it."
Y/N couldn't help but laugh, but playful the mood lasted for only a second before Taehyung was serious again. "No, really. He's amazing, Y/N." His eyes flickered between them. "You both did something incredible."
"Y/N," he whispered low, "you've made a beautiful family."
Y/N blinked, unsure of what to do. "Thank you, Taehyung."
Jungkook beamed proudly at the seriousness in his friend's voice until Taehyung turned back to him. "You realize I'm his favorite uncle, right? You can't even compete."
Without hesitation, Jungkook stood up from his chair, feigning offense. "Hey, that's my son! Give him back.
Taehyung raised an eyebrow, pushing the baby higher into his chest. "No way. I just got here, and I'm holding him first. Deal with it."
Y/N watched in amusement as these two guys, always so strong and collected, began to delicately argue over the baby. Jungkook strode forward, his hands placed on his hips. "You're not even holding him right. Give him to me.
"You think I don't know how to hold a baby? I've been practicing," Taehyung shot back, readjusting his grip but refusing to let go.
"I don't care if you've been practicing. I'm his father. You're just the weird uncle who's probably going to teach him bad habits," Jungkook argued, now half-laughing, half-serious.
Y/N sighed, still amused. "Boys, please. Let's not fight over him already."
Taehyung smiled wistfully, winking at Y/N. "Sorry, Y/N. It's not my fault your husband is getting territorial."
Jungkook just got up, completely oblivious to this subtle tension left between his wife and his best friend. "I'll get us something to drink. You two catch up," he said and disappeared into the kitchen.
The second Jungkook had disappeared, Taehyung's smile faltered. Gently, he handed the baby back to Y/N.
Taehyung's smile extended just enough for Y/N to catch that glint in his eyes, that glint she had seen before. It was but for a moment, yet it tugged at something deep inside her, something she wasn't ready to face.
She swallowed and forced a smile, though her mind was racing with questions she didn't know how to ask. There was something about the casual, knowing way he'd said those words that reminded her of something from that night.
Y/N tries to shake it off, but the suspicion lingers on.
Coincidence?
Or is it something more?
She turned to Taehyung, now standing nonchalantly, adjusting his sleeve as if the weight of what transpired between them was no longer hanging in the air. He was calm, too calm, with nothing seemingly getting to him.
But Y/N couldn't forget, and neither could he.
"Taehyung...," she started, her voice breaking as her mind journeyed back to the night of the crash and how hazy that memory still was.
He turned toward her, his gaze softening, but that shadow behind his smile never disappeared. "Yes?" His tone was smooth, almost too perfect, like a dare for her to ask that question she didn't even know how to form.
She opened her mouth to talk, but nothing came out. What would she say, anyway? Did she even know what happened that night? Was it worth it, asking? Maybe it was all in her head.
Before she could get the courage to push on, Jungkook was back inside the room, balancing the tray with refreshments in his hands. He didn't feel the tension hanging in the air between them.
"Everything okay?" Jungkook asked, totally oblivious to the undercurrent.
Y/N forced a smile, nodding, though the weight of Taehyung's gaze still clung to her. "Yeah, everything's fine," she said, her voice steady, though inside she felt anything but.
Y/N's heart skipped a beat. It wasn't the words that sent shivers down her spine but the way he said it-almost like reminding. of what? She couldn't fathom, and just that was unnerving her further. Her mind went back to that accident-anaya-but why now? Why did she feel this tension always, this bizarre guilt when Taehyung was near?
