The Labyrinth

It was a dark and stormy night.

Heavy rain rapped on the widow panes.

The dark king stole into the room.

Looking down at the crying babe, "you shall be mine soon."

He held great power.

Darkness his greatest hour.

The young girl left to care for this spoiled child.

Lost her patience after a very short while.

Angrily she looked away, only to say "i wish someone would come take you away."

The storm ceased, and the cries did too.

Shadows in the room seemed to come alive.

Soon the girl returned.

Panic set in with regret and dread.

The babes bed stood empty.

She frantically called the childs name.

Only the dark king came.

In through the window he appeared.

He stood with a mocking stare.

And he said to her, "the babes now mine, unless you can find him in time."

She stared at the dark king with great despair.

Demanding "wheres this child of mine?"

She exclaimed "return him to me!"

The dark king only smirked and stated, "perhaps, we shall see."

He spun two Crystal balls effortlessly in his hand.

Standing so powerful and grand.

He told the girl, "do you see there far away?"

"That's where my kingdom stays."

"To find the babe, you must conquer the labyrinth maze."

"But no one must help you along the way."

Before he disappeared in thin air.

He declared "you have till the end of the day or the babe shall forever stay with me."

But this wasn't just any king.

And that castle so very far away.

Was magic and held an array of strange creatures.

Nothing was as it may seem.

For you see, he was a goblin king.

And was granted anything he so desired.

The girl started the journey.

Soon she was in the walls of the labyrinth maze.

It required great strategy.

From inside it looked all the same.

She walked in circles, not sure from which direction she came.

She cried defeated, "this is one of your cruel games."

A creature that scurried by.

He stopped to say "things aren't as they always seem."

What you deem impossible is usually the way."

Knowing she had only till the end of the day, the girl continued on her way.

Needless to say she came across many odd things.

She met a few friends that stayed, to help her along the way.

The goblin king sat smugly in his throne.

Watching it all in his magic crystal ball.

He planted obstacles in her way.

For you see, he wanted her to stay and be his queen.

She went through perils and often lost her way.

She rushed knowing she was almost out of time.

One goblin helped her most of all.

The goblin king order him to stall the girl.

He hoped she would fail and stay, it's the only reason he took the child away.

The goblin offered her a peach, the girl being hungry and tired.

Excepted it and took a large bite.

The goblin saddened at what he was forced to do and ran away.

The girl was drugged and fell to the ground.

She drifted off and appeared in a masquerade ball.

Glass hall's reflecting everything.

They all danced dressed so elegantly in jeweled masks.

The goblin king watching as she spun around dressed in a enchanting gown.

She found him watching her intently.

Mesmerized she danced with the goblin king looking into his eyes.

But to his surprise, she snapped out of her haze and ran away.

Returning to her task, she had reached the castle at last.

The king saddened looked on in dismay.

He knew at that moment she wouldn't stay.

The girl climbed stair after stair.

Finally she spotted the babe there.

Jumping she began to fall through the air.

When she awoke, she was back where it all started in her room.

She rushed to see if the child had been returned too.

She whispered to him "it would seem this was all just a dream."

But what she learned was, things aren't always as they seem.

She looked around her room at her fairy tales and everything she so dearly loved.

And she realized they are a part of her, that shall always stay.

Glancing up at the mirror she spots all the goblins there.

They say "shall you ever need us we will always be here.

She said "but i always need you."

Chaos ensued.

The goblins all gathered in her room they sang and danced.

But what the girl didn't realize, the goblin king was there too.

He glanced through the window and watched saddened, but he didn't stay.

He turned into a owl and flew away.

Perhaps one day, she will return to the castle and choose to stay.
