Chapter 9
When the sound of the door opening reached Ciel's ears he sat upright, suddenly realizing he had fallen asleep again. He coughed to hide the blush that was rising and crossed his arms at the sight of Sebastian approaching.
Sebastian had a stack of newspapers, just as Ciel had requested, and placed them on the desk. "Is there anything else you require young Master?"
"No," Ciel said, picking the top newspaper up and reading it over.
Sebastian bowed and left Ciel alone.
Finding nothing of interest, Ciel abandoned the newspaper and grabbed another. He continued to do so until he found what he was looking for. The newspaper he was most interested in had a small article at the bottom of its pages. There was a single picture next to the article, and it was this photo that Ciel paid most attention to. The image was of his father standing next to the head of the Hyakuya Orphanage. In between them stood a smiling Mika and Ciel both holding hands with him.
Ciel turned his attention away from the photo and read over the article.
Over the past four years he wanted revenge; revenge on the people responsible for the deaths of his parents and the abduction of himself.
To do that, Ciel had advised a plan. It was obvious to him that the culprits had to have known his father in some way and the best way to capture the culprits was to find out who they were. For that, he needed to find his fathers contacts. Ciel understood that the liklihood of the perpetrators of his father's murder still being alive were slim, but it was a chance he was willing to take. Not every adult was dead; only the majority. There still was a small possibility they were alive and it was this possibility that had him staring at the Head of the Hyakuya Orphanage.
Ciel couldn't rule them out. Instead, he searched for their name and, having found it at the end noting of the newspaper, wrote it down on the list of suspects. The article itself didn't interest him as it simply stated that an important member of England came to Japan on behalf of the Queen, adopting a son before his departure back home. This information didn't help in any way so he simply threw out the newspaper and grabbed another one.
The door to the study room opened and Sebastian stepped inside, "Young Master, its lunch time. May I suggest taking a break from your work and eating?"
Ciel glanced at the paper before setting it down and standing up.
As Ciel exited the study room something small and black in the ground caught his attention and he gasped, emitting a loud, "cat!" as a small sneeze escaped from his mouth.
"Ah, this is Lady Naka," Sebastian said.
"Get rid of it!" Ciel ordered, sneezing again.
The cat turned her head and began licking her paw.
"As you wish," Sebastian muttered, a look of displeasure in his face as he knelt down and scooped up the small cat.
As Sebastian departed to relocate the cat, Ciel covered his nose as he made his way to the dining room where plates upon plates of fresh food awaited him.
As he sat down and picked up his fork, Ciel sighed before glancing at Sebastian who returned from dealing with the cat.
Beginning to eat Ciel said, "When you were gathering the newspapers, did you sense any nearby humans?"
"No, as far as I could tell there were no humans nearby. They seemed to have been rounded up and caged like livestock. The vampires, for the most part, have strongholds all throughout Japan and all over the world. That is where they're keeping the human livestock."
Ciel paused from eating and placed his silverware down, his eyes lingering on the large slice of meat on his plate.
"Livestock huh," he murmured.
