Chapter 17
When Sebastian returned, Ciel was fast asleep at his desk, his head resting upon a pile of paperwork.
He sighed and shook his head, it was late so naturally his master would be asleep. He couldn't help but form a smile however, at the knowledge that His master could sleep so peacefully despite giving him an order to murder children who were no older than himself simply to throw the vampires into turmoil. Such a thing was beyond cold, it was ruthless.
Sebastian didn't mind that his master was quite ruthless, for it made the boy's soul that much more delicious.
Approaching him, Sebastian carefully lifted his slender body out of his seat and cradled him against his chest as he led him to the master bedroom. Gently placing him down and pulling the covers up to his chin, Sebastian took a step back and stared at the sleeping master.
He stood there watching over him all night, as he had done ever since their contract was first established. It had been four years since their contract had begun and Sebastian's hunger had only grown since then. There was no reason for him to play the role of butler, in fact, he often wondered if such a ruse was necessary since the world was already destroyed. Most demons would revel in the chance to eat as much as they wanted, with humans growing more desperate as time passed on.
Was it truly worth it to wait? That was the only question that he thought of for the last four years, the one thing that repeated in his mind every night.
When Ciel's eyes fluttered open, the first thing he saw was red. Red eyes glowing in the dark, watching, always watching. He knew it was Sebastian, no vampire would ever be able to sneak into his bedroom like that. But still, his heart always raced in his chest threatening to burst as panic flooded him. Those red eyes were the same; Sebastian had the same eyes of those vampires. In a way, Sebastian was more frightful than vampires. At least with vampires Ciel knew he could prolong his life one way or another. But with Sebastian, he was living on borrowed time. That was why he ordered him to watch over him as he slept. Whenever he awoke, he wanted to be reminded that he needed to find the truth, fast.
Ciel sat upright and held a hand over his eye where the contract seal was located.
"It is four thirty-five in the morning young master," Sebastian stated.
"I see," Ciel murmured, "Sebastian, breakfast."
"As you wish."
Sebastian departed, leaving Ciel alone in the dark room.
Throwing his legs over the bed, Ciel forced himself up and placed a hand across his back where he was branded.
When Sebastian returned, he held a fresh folded pair of clothes in his hands.
Ciel was quickly dressed and led downstairs where breakfast was prepared. He sat down and ate, noting the silence in the dining room. When he finished and placed down his fork he said, "The vampires should be in complete turmoil right now. While they're struggling to keep their livestock, that makes it so that we can take advantage of their confusion. They have a leader, right? While they're detracted that gives us an opportunity to attack directly. Take the king and the game is over."
"While it's true the vampires will be momentarily distracted, how do you propose I go about killing their leader?"
"You've already infiltrated their hideout twice before, so it shouldn't be a problem for you to do it again. This time, however, I want to go with you."
At his words, Ciel noted the slight perplexity cross Sebastian's face before it relaxed into a smirk, " So You intend to be the one to put an end to their leader."
"Of course," Ciel responded, crossing his arms as he narrowed his eyes, "Those Vampires think of humans as nothing more than livestock; they think they're better than us so it's only fitting for the hunted to be the hunter."
Sebastian chuckled and grinned, becoming more and more surprised by his master with every passing day.
Ciel clenched his fists, already prepared for the hellhole he was about to be entering.
An hour later, Ciel entered the Sanguinem behind Sebastian who was dressed as a vampire. Trailing his eyes around, Ciel couldn't help but feel repulsed by what he saw. The children looked pathetic standing around in fear, and watching them with wide eyes.
"Stay close to me young master," Sebastian murmured, barely above a whisper as he continued forward.
There were corpses of children being carried off by vampires and simply tossed away like garbage. Ciel wanted nothing more than to order Sebastian to slaughter every last one of them, but such a thing was stupid. He couldn't compromise their infiltration mission over feelings.
"Hey you!" A vampire shouted, approaching them.
Ciel paused and glanced up expectantly at Sebastian waiting to see what he would do.
Sebastian flashed a smile and responded with a, "Yes? How can I be of service?"
"The Queen has ordered all high ranking vampires for a meeting. What rank are you?"
"I am a seventeenth progenitor," Sebastian lied smoothly.
"Very well, head over or Krul won't be pleased."
Sebastian nodded and stepped forward, glancing back at Ciel.
The vampire turned his red eyes to Ciel and eyed him menacingly.
Deciding to play the part of a scared child, Ciel faked a look of terror before running away, but not before making eye contact with Sebastian.
Catching his look Sebastian smirked and turned, heading to the vampire meeting while Ciel paused and watched him go.
