Chapter 3

After a long talk, I figured out that I'm 1 in a million people who have these so-called "powers", and I'm not allowed to tell anyone because they'll either think I'm completely insane, or they'll tell everyone and then the police will find out and take me in for testing, which apparently involves a lotta needles. And I absolutely HATE needles!!

Also, all those people in the shaft all had their own "powers". Apparently, everyone is unique, and has their very own special ability. Like how some people control elements, like water, air, fire, or earth. Which is pretty freaking cool, if you ask me!

"What type of powers do I have then, Professor H?" I asked, as we walked down a hallway. He said it would lead to his office so he could get me registered into the Shaft.

"That all comes with time, Violet. One of these days, you'll learn to pull them out and embrace them."

"Hmph..." I said, as Professor H. chuckled. I crossed my arms. I just wanted to figure out what kind of powers I had! I mean, seriously! I come all the way here learning that I've got super powers, but somehow I don't yet? That would make anyone disappointed... Although there is the fact that I learned that I actually DO have super powers, so I guess I'm okay with this for now.

Professor H. told me that I would be spending less and less time with my friends and family, and that I would have to tell my mom about the whole "oh look, I'm a superhero now!" thing so she doesn't think that I'm kidnapped every time I go away for a while.

We soon got to the Professor's office. It was mostly made out of wood and had neat little designs going all around and through the walls and back again. It also had a window that gave a chance for rays of sunlight to come into the room and shine on the desk that was in the middle of the room.

He registered me into the Shaft and gave me a little key-card which gave me access to a whole bunch of places in the Shaft (including all the entrances and exits). He also gave me a little watch-gadget thingy that helped me teleport where I needed to go (for safety purposes, and for getting to and from the Shaft). I looked at the key-card and strapped the watch to my wrist. I thanked the Professor and looked at my phone... It was 7:50 pm. Crap!

"Sorry Professor, but I have to leave. My mother will think I've been kidnapped if I don't get home in the next 15 minutes or so!" I said, beginning to gather my things as I ran out the door.

Crap, I'm gonna be late! I thought.

No worries, child. Stay still, and I'll teleport both you and your bike home safely.

Thanks, Professor H! I thought back as I watched the world disappear in a swirl of blue light, then re-appear with me standing with my bike in front of my house, just as the sun was setting. I smiled as I rolled it into the garage. I closed the garage door as I went inside my house, tired as heck and ready to crash.

"Well you look pleased." My mom said as I came through the front door. "Did ya have fun downtown?"

"Hm? Oh... Yeah! Sure did... Hahah..." Crap! I totally forgot that I told my mom I would be going downtown with my friends!

"That's nice." My mom smiled at me.

Taking this as an advantage point, I smiled back at her then rushed down the hall and into my room. I opened my laptop to text my good friend Astrid about everything that happened tonight, but then I rememebered...

"Violet... You mustn't tell anyone about the Shaft or about who you are. We could get into some serious trouble with the government, and we'd be all over the news!" Professor H exclaimed, "Also... If they found out that you were one of us, you would be taken into testing and they would give you tons of needles to find out about your blood type and-"

"NEEDLES?!" I stood up in shock. "Oooooh no. You ain't coming ANYWHERE near me with those! I absolutely hate needles...!" I sat back down blushing, realising that I was causing a ruckus.

I shivered.

No thanks! I thought, as I closed the lid of my laptop.

I felt really bad, because I tell Astrid everything. She's my best friend. The only secrets I keep are ones with her involved, or secrets that we both know and swear not to tell a soul. I swear, we're like partners in crime!

Gosh, now that I think about it, we could take over the world if we both had powers...

Astrid's POV

I can't believe that it's the weekend... It's been a long and tiring week. I just don't get how people are so... peopley! They all run around talking to each other... In other words... "Socialising".

Socialising is kinda tough for me. I can only tolerate some people, like Violet. Oh yeah, I didn't tell you how it started.

My name is Astrid Arlight. I am 16 years old. I met Violet when we were 15, so last year. It was tough getting through the little bit of high school we call grade 9, but it was sure worth it when I had Violet there with me.

Seriously, she and Iris are the only 2 people out of this whole school that I can call my best friends. The rest of em are just... Guys.

Everyone at school notices me, but I fear that it's in a bad way. Most of the people I know (which are very few, compared to Violet's mountain of friends), think they know me on a very personal level. They think that I'm self-centered and I only use people for food and money.

But really, there's something that I'm hiding from everyone, something that I've kept a secret ever since I knew.

I have super powers.
