It was the first day back to school. Everyone at school was excited as they tried to find their semester one classes all over again while chatting with their friends they hadn't seen for a long time.

Fortunately, I knew where all my classes were, and I already knew who was in them. All of my friends were all separated into different classes.. which were my classes. So I get a chance to see all of my friends throughout the course of the day! Now that really excited me, since I hadn't seen them for at least a week.

As the warning bell was about to start ringing, I rushed to my locker and saw my really good friend Astrid waiting for me. As soon as she saw me, she ran up and gave me a huge hug.

"Omigosh, Vi! I missed you so so so much!"

I laughed as I hugged her back. "Aw! Thanks a bunch, Astrid! I missed you so much too!"

Vi was the nickname Astrid gave me when we first became friends, so I just kinda stuck with it. My actual name is Violet... Violet McNaughton. 

Astrid is one of my best friends. She's also FULL of surprises, too! You never know what she's gonna do or say. One day she's over the top happy, and the next day, all she wants is lots of hugs... and lots of sleep. She's also kind of a night owl. Hates the sun, loves the dark... Oh! And she also sleeps in really late on the weekends too.

I opened my locker as Astrid and I said our goodbye's. The warning bell rang to notify all the students in the school that there are 5 minutes left before classes start. Grabbing my stuff out of my locker, I looked at what I had for my first class of the day. Math... Great.

This'll probably be like last year, I thought to myself.

What happened last year was that I had a really bad experience with both Math and English because my teacher was really mean to us all the time. What I didn't know was that Math was probably going to end up being really fun for me.

I closed my locker and ran to class before the second bell rang. Thankfully, the teacher wasn't there yet, but the classroom was unlocked. There were lots of people pouring into the classroom as I walked in and found a seat.

I felt someone poking me from behind, so I turned around to see who it was.

"Astrid!" I exclaimed. "You're in this class too?"

"Heck yeah, I am!" Astrid replied with a smile.

"Yus!"

We both laughed. Astrid is probably one of my closest buds when it comes to my friends at school. I was really happy when I found out that I'd be in her class!

I looked around the room. There were a whole bunch of people I knew who were in my class. Most of them I was good friends with, but some of them were just people I didn't get to know quite well yet. I knew everyone from first semester.

There was a person sitting beside Astrid. Someone I recognise... He smiled at me and started waving. Suddenly, I realised who it was.

"Nixon!" I exclaimed. "It's so good to see you again!"

Nixon laughed. "You make it seem like we haven't seen each other in ages!"

"Well that's cause it's been a week and a bit! That's ages for me!"

I laughed as I looked over at Astrid fake-gagging over Nixon and I. We assumed that she didn't like us sweet-talking to each other. It was hilarious to us both.

Okay, so let me give you the scoop about Nixon and I. We're dating. Yes, yes, I know. It's outgoing for a little grade 9er like myself... But I find him cute... And he has a great personality. That would also be something to "gag" about... in Astrid's perspective.

Nixon is a total sweetheart. He's really outgoing sometimes and really silly, but he's one of the people who makes it fun for everyone.

As we were all sharing our fantabulous stories about what we did over March Break, our teacher came in the room. 

"Hello, everyone! My name is Ms. Raven. I will be your teacher for Math this semester!"

Everyone but me groaned. This was going to be an exciting day!

Days passed, and finally, it was Friday! My classmates and I were hanging out in the classroom chatting about the news on the television last night, and the weather this morning and how it was so warm out, and minding our own business as we sat around waiting for the bell to ring.

Finally, the school bell rang, letting students know that school was over for today. The hallways were packed as everybody rushed to make it to the busses on time so that they could get home quickly. Well, everyone but us. By us, of course, I mean: me, Nixon, Astrid, and some other people from our group of friends.

First, there's Iris. She usually hangs out with us during lunch. Iris is kind of a happy-go-lucky person. She's almost always perky and joyful. Kinda reminds me of a flower. You know... how they're always so alive and stuff.

Next, there's Ace. He's Iris's boyfriend. They're like the ultimate couple whenever they're together... But that's only when he feels like it. He's really sweet when you're his friend (and that's cause we know each other and his locker is right next to mine)... But he's got a whole lotta friends... And they're all girls. When he's around them, he acts like he doesn't even have a girlfriend. We actually even have to remind him to go to his girlfriend to comfort her when she's upset...

And there's also Ray. He's the really sporty type. He's really mostly into hockey. He doesn't hang out with us that often, but when he does, he's really friendly. Ray and I are friends. Then again, who am I not friends with? Ha ha... that's what Nixon always says. 

And last but not least, there's Josh. Josh and Ray always hang out together every day. Ace sometimes hangs out with the two of them at lunch. When you get to know Josh, he's really kind. He's shy when you first get to know him, but after a little while, he's really expressive and absolutely LOVES video games. 

"Heeeeeeeeey, Vi! Guess who got an A+ in Music!!!!"

I turned around to see Astrid standing behind me with a huge grin on her face. She obviously seemed really proud of herself.

I laughed. "You did!!"

"YES!" Astrid exclaimed as she hugged me, almost making me lose my balance.

"I'm so proud of you! A+ ? That's amazing!"

"I know, right!!! I didn't even expect that would happen!"

Even though it was the end of school and Astrid's locker was all the way down the hallway, she came to see me at my locker where I was getting ready to go home for the weekend.

"Hey, Vi." I heard a voice from behind. I turned around to see who it was.

"Oh! Nixon! Heeeyyy! Didn't see you there!" I said as I waved. 

Nixon chuckled. "So... How was your first week back?"

"AWESOME!" I exclaimed. 

It's true, I really did have a great week. I also don't have such a bad schedule, either. Math, Drama, Tech, and Geography... Those are the four classes I have for second semester. I'm just glad I got Science first semester. Also, I'm really into the Arts, so I'm probably going to excel in Drama. I'm also really excited about it, too!

Finally, Astrid went to her locker to get ready to walk home, which left me some time to get ready myself.

"She did WHAT?!" I exclaimed.

Astrid, Nixon, Iris, Ace, Ray, Josh, and I were walking home. It was a really nice day out. There was still some snow on the ground. Now that it was almost spring, I was super pumped for all the nice leisure days where I can sit outside in my backyard... Maybe even climb my tree... Okay! Yes! I like climbing trees! So what? Plus, the tree in my backyard is really nice.

"I told you already! She punched the guy straight in the face!" Iris said.

"Wait wait wait wait wait," Ace cut in, "Who in the what now? What is going on? Some girly gossip?" Ace nudged Iris, which made me smile. They're so cute together!

Astrid fake-gagged in the back. I laughed. What a goofball!

"Okay, lemme explain." Said Iris, "So this wannabe popular girl... her name's Neomie... So yah, she went up to a group of guys trying to 'fit in' and one of the guys... I think his name's Liam... he started talking trash talk to her, so she punched him square in the face! then they got into this big fight and whatever..."

"And now every girl in the whole entire SCHOOL is talking about it!" I cut in.

"Yeup..." Iris said, "That too."

"And how did I not know about this?" Ace asked.

"Who knows??" Astrid exclaimed, throwing her hands up in the air.

Astrid and I both laughed. Only we knew what that meant. It was a little... "inside joke" of ours. Well, at least one of them. We have a whole lotta things up our sleeves! It's funny because we have these little code words and when we start talking in code, people get so confused! It's the funniest thing ever!

Everyone was looking at us like we were from the moon. They had no idea what we had planned!

"Okaaaaayyy..." Ray said, a little weirded out.

Everyone looked at each other with confused looks on their faces. Everyone except Astrid and I. We just smiled and laughed.

On the way home, we crossed a fairly large field. We all looked as some dogs played with their owners just a few meters away from us. It was a really nice day out. We could see birds flying over our heads as they chirped happily. Then, everything froze. Everything but me.
