Twisted - #1
I woke up, automatically feeling the bed next to me, looking for Kenny. My eyes snapped open when I realized he wasn't next to me. What made me more confused is the fact that I wasn't sleeping in Kenny's room, or on Indigo's and Titan's couch. I was in a room I knew all too well, and it wasn't one I wanted to be in. I was in the house I once shared with my brother.
My brother. Who tried to kill Kenny over one argument.
A chill ran down my spine as I got up from the bed and slowly walked out of the room. "Hello?" I called out, hearing the echo of my own voice. Something felt wrong here, and it wasn't just the fact that I fell asleep in Kenny's room and woke up here.
As I slowly crept through the house, I heard a muffled sound come from the cellar. I was on alert, looking for a weapon I could defend myself with, hoping that the muffled sound was all in my head.
Once I found a weapon, a random baseball bat laying on the floor, I crept to the door to the cellar and opened it. Now the sound was getting louder, and this time, it couldn't be a figment of my imagination.
"Hello? Is someone there?" I called out again, hearing the same muffled noise in return, only louder. I walked down the stairs, getting closer and closer to the noise.
A cold sweat formed on the back of my neck. I raised the bat higher in order to defend myself, and soon enough, I found where the noise was coming from.
Someone was tied up down here.
I searched blindly for a flashlight, feeling the cold metal on my fingers.
I tried to turn it on, but found that it only flickered and turned back off.
"Come on, you stupid thing..." I said, smacking the flashlight against my hand. Once the light finally came on, I shone it in the direction of the noise and saw something so terrifying I could've fainted.
Kenny was there, bound and gagged, and pleading with me to help him.
"Hello, brother," I heard from behind me before everything went black.
---
"...vin...Calvin!"
I woke up to see Horatio standing above me. I was breathing heavily, and I could feel the sweat on my back. As the dream still lingered in my head, my eyes swam around, hoping to see Kenny, to see if he's alright.
I looked at Horatio, and saw him looking back at me with a worried expression. "Are you okay, Calvin?"
I ignored him, hopping up from the couch and almost running around the house, looking for Kenny everywhere. Horatio was following me with the same worried expression, but I couldn't listen to him. I was too worried about Kenny.
Horatio grabbed my shoulder, making me stop and turn to face him. "What are you looking for? What's wrong?"
By now, my breathing was slowing down so I said, "W-where is Kenny?"
Horatio frowned. "He went to the diner for milkshakes." He thought for a bit before saying, "Is everything okay?"
I swallowed hard and nodded. I was filled with relief at hearing that Kenny was at the diner, because Dan and Destiny were there so nothing bad would happen to him.
"Y-yeah... everything's fine."
---
"Horatio, I'm back with the milkshakes!" Kenny called, shutting the door. Once I saw that he was safe, I jumped off the couch without hesitation and wrapped my arms around him.
He froze before wrapping his arms back around me. "Sorry, Calvin, but I gotta go put these milkshakes down."
I pulled away and nodded. "Oh yeah, sorry." I watched him walk to the kitchen and asked, "Kenny, how are you doing?"
He looked at me and shrugged. "Fine? A little cold I guess but I'm fine."
I sighed in relief. "That's good... really good..."
Horatio rolled his eyes. "He just had some freakish nightmare," he said, "about what, I don't know."
Kenny smiled a bit. "Oh. Well I'm fine as you can see, Calvin." He picked up a strawberry milkshake and handed it to me. "Here I got you this."
I took a sip of it. "Ahhh, so good. Thank you."
We all sat at the table and drank our milkshakes, talking about random stuff that didn't last long.
Horatio slammed his cup down on the table. "I'm done first."
"It wasn't a race," I said.
"Yes, it was."
"No, it wasn't."
"Yes, it was."
"No, it wasn't."
"I'm a cop, I'm always right."
"Wha- That has nothing to do with this situation," I said.
"Yes, it does."
I sighed, knowing I wasn't going to win the argument. Horatio could be ridiculous sometimes, but to be honest, so could I. That argument could've gone on a lot longer, but I wasn't quite in the mood.
Kenny rolled his eyes, picking up his milkshake before heading to the door. "I'm gonna go out again," he said.
Horatio wiggled his eyebrows at him. "Going to see J-"
"NO!" Kenny screamed. A blush formed on his cheeks before he said, "No."
He left the house, the blush still lingering.
I turned to Horatio. "Who's he going to see?"
He held his hands up in surrender. "You'll have to ask him yourself. I don't have the right."
"What do you mean? You're his brother, and I'm his boyfriend."
Horatio's eyebrows knit together. "Um... I thought you guys broke up, like, a few months ago?"
"What?" I asked, feeling utterly conflicted and confused. "We- We what?"
"Are- Are you for real?" Horatio said. "So he's been cheating on you?"
"Say what now?"
He hesitated before saying, "Calvin, Kenny has been seeing-"
"I'm back!" Kenny called, the front door slamming shut. "I just forgot my keys- Calvin, what's that look for?"
I didn't realize I was glaring at him until he said something. "So I heard you've been cheating?"
"Cheating? Cheating on-"
"You know exactly what I'm talking about," I said, standing up and pointing my finger in his face.
"I have no idea what you mean!"
"Alright, stop this before I have to arrest someone," Horatio said, getting in between us. "And that someone will be you, Calvin."
"Just- Kenny, at least tell me who it is you're seeing," I said.
"Promise me you won't get mad."
I sighed. "Fine, I promise."
"It's someone you know... someone you dated."
"Don't tell me it's-"
He nodded. "Yes... it's Joel."
