New Beginnings
The sun was beginning to rise behind the burning city. The way the rays hit the flames made the buildings look even more engulfed in the fire than it was. The faint sounds of emergency sirens filled the air off in the distance while the space between y/n and Tomura was dead silent.
Y/n glanced down to Tomura's hand. Slowly, as if trying not to alert him, she moved her hand closer to his. The side of her finger lightly brushed up against his. Y/n held her breath as her eyes darted up to Tomura's face. He didn't seem to show signs of noticing. With bated breath, y/n inched her finger closer to his until it laid over his. Y/n looked back to the city, pretending as if she didn't even notice what she was doing.
Y/n's eyes widened as she felt Tomura's finger twitch under hers. He slowly readjusted his hand, so y/n's finger was between two of his. She felt him slowly rub against her skin.
The two continued to sit next to each other and watched the city from a distance. Y/n felt terrible about the destruction and death, but she couldn't help but feel relieved to have made it out alive and free. She hugged her knees to her chest. Y/n was exhausted from a long night.
Tomura abruptly stood up and walked away. Almost on instinct, she attempted to do the same. "Stay, " Tomura demanded.
Y/n sat completely still and watched the villain walk into the distance. A black mass formed by Tomura's side, and she wondered if he was going back. Y/n knew if he was leaving again, she wasn't invited this time.
Kurogiri manifested in front of Tomura. Y/n watched as the two men talked. Tomura walked a distance away, and y/n couldn't hear their conversation. She saw Kurogiri glance over Tomura's shoulder towards her direction. Y/n felt her stomach twist, knowing they had to have been talking about her.
A portal formed next to y/n, she looked at the warp gate and then back to the two villains. Y/n could see both of them facing her direction. She knew when to take a hint and stood up. Y/n glanced over her shoulder and took a small glimpse of the burning city behind her one last time before entering Kurogiri's quirk.
Y/n found herself back in the little country house. Y/n could hardly remember the last time she was left home alone. It was strange being all alone. The house seemed darker and colder. She certainly felt lonely being left all alone.
Y/n wandered around in the darkness until she stumbled across Tomura's couch. She sat down and turned on the TV.
Every channel was broadcasting the attack. Y/n laid down on the couch, her eyes glued to the news report while her head rested on Tomura's pillow. Through a shaky camera, y/n saw Twice surrounded by heroes. Y/n focused on the TV as she wondered how he was going to get himself out of this situation.
A black warp gate formed next to Twice, and Tomura came charging out. Y/n leaned forward, and her grip on Tomura's pillow tightened. She was now much more invested in what was going on. She felt her chest tighten as Tomura willingly rushed into a group of heroes. Y/n wondered if she was going to see Tomura get captured or if he was going to die right here on TV.
"What are you doing?" y/n mumbled to herself; "you were safe." Y/n couldn't understand why Tomura went back with Kurogiri. She knew Tomura found pleasure in other peoples' misfortune, and even more when he's the source. Even so, she wondered why he didn't come home with her.
The report focused on Twice, and he was shown fleeing through a portal. The realization hit y/n hard. Tomura went back to save the rest of The League?
Tomura made y/n feel a lot of emotions. Anger, sadness, loneliness, comfort. A select few other feelings were questionable. However, for the first time since she met Tomura, she felt something new. Admiration.
Y/n never saw Tomura as someone who would put his life in danger for another. She always believed that he thought everyone, including her, was expendable. Y/n has never felt so proud of Tomura.
As soon as Twice's portal swiftly disappeared, the camera zoomed in on Tomura. Y/n found herself sitting up, wholly absorbed by what was going on.
It was difficult to see what exactly was going on. The video kept cutting out at strange times. After trying her best to follow along to what was going on, y/n realized the cuts weren't random at all.
The media was trying to report on as much as possible without showing any deaths. Once y/n realized that, she felt her heart stop every time the video cut out. Y/n couldn't help but worry that one of those blackouts were going to be for him.
The video came back, showing Tomura had narrowly escaped the heroes surrounding him, and he managed to get himself out via a warp portal. Y/n let out a relieved sigh. Even after her two, very memorable, kisses, y/n still believed Tomura needed psychiatric help, not death.
Y/n felt her eyes growing heavier as she watched the broadcast. Tomura was the one capturing her attention and keeping her awake. With him no longer on the screen, she suddenly realized how tired she was.
Tomura scanned his surroundings before exiting the portal. This secluded park was where Himiko was seen last. He stepped out and glanced around. She was nowhere to be seen.
"She better be injured or something. I better not find her playing out here." Tomura walked along the park while he looked around for the blonde girl.
Kurogiri manifested behind Tomura. "She's the last one. I've collected all the others." Tomura grumbled, talking about how he was ready to go home and take a nap. "Couldn't we use y/n's mask to relay a message to Ms. Toga?"
Tomura shook his head. "Y/n mentioned it broke." He gave the park one last look around. "Not here."
The two villains looked all around for Himiko. The girl's quirk made her hard to find. She could be literally anyone. For all he knew, Himiko was attempting to blend in as a hero, and Tomura had accidentally killed her.
"I think she's a lost cause," Tomura said, wanting to go home. "She can get herself out."
"Are you sure?" Kurogiri replied.
Tomura pointed to the now brightly lit sky. "I'm not a day person." Kurogiri sighed and opened a portal. Tomura entered the warp gate. He turned around and waited for his advisor. "If you're so worried about her, you look for Toga. I'm going to bed." Tomura watched as Kurogiri vanished before him.
The blue-haired villain meticulously placed his disembodied hands on the kitchen table. He carefully removed father and placed it down in front of all the other palms.
He walked towards his couch. He stopped and looked down at it with tired eyes. "Fell asleep again?" He had woken y/n up earlier. She somehow managed to pass out as soon as she found the safe zone he had told her to go.
Tomura knelt by y/n's side and cautiously slipped his hands under her. Trying his best not to wake y/n up, he lifted her and held her in his arms.
The villain carried y/n to her room and set her down just as carefully as when he picked her up. He sat down at the edge of her bed and glanced over to her. He noted how comfortable she looked.
Tomura repositioned himself next to y/n and laid down. He stared at her sleeping face for a moment before wondering if it was possible to make this work.
He was always acutely aware of his quirk. For obvious reasons, he loses that caution when he's sleeping.
As a child, he was forced to wear gloves to bed. Tomura remembered how hard it was to go to bed. The gloves felt suffocating. He recalled when his master and Kurogiri decided he was old enough to choose whether or not he wanted to wear gloves to bedone of his first happy memories.
Tomura would never dare reconsider wearing gloves to bed. However, he couldn't quite think of any way he wouldn't put y/n in danger if he chose to rest by her side. All it took was y/n rolling into one of his hands in her sleep to kill her.
The villain scooted in close to her and wrapped an arm over her hip. He tucked his thumb in his fingers. Tomura paused and gave it some thought. No, this won't do.
Tomura was not confident he would be able to keep his hands in this position while he slept. If his thumb slipped, she would die. Tomura pulled his arm from y/n, concluding that he was too dangerous.
He immediately sat up and looked down at y/n before getting off her bed. He closed the door behind him as he left her room.
The villain turned on the TV and watched the news of his Nomu Attack continue to ensue as he laid down on the couch. He expected the heroes to capture the last of his Nomu by the time the day is over. As he was assisting Kurogiri in helping him find the League members, Tomura noticed the number of Nomu was dwindling.
How long the remaining Nomu last didn't matter to Tomura. His goals were completed before he asked Kurogiri to send y/n back home. Heroes and civilians have died, and the media was currently sensationalizing the attack. Tomura guessed, from previous experience, the news will be talking about it for several months, at least.
On top of hearing The League of Villains' name on TV, Tomura was more interested in speaking with y/n about the attack. Had she not fallen asleep before he got back, Tomura would have immediately talked to her.
Over a year ago, y/n seemed helpless. To some extent, y/n was still powerless and maintained her skittish personality. However, Tomura was interested to see if the attack changed her mindset in any way.
The worst-case scenario was that she'd returned to being fearful of The League. While annoying, it was still manageable. She had learned to warm up to everyone once, Tomura was sure he could do it again.
The best-case scenario was that she developed convictions of her own. In the chaos of The Nomu Attack, he was sure she had to have seen something she didn't like. People show their true nature when backed into a corner. The thought of y/n finally having a goal to strive for excited Tomura, his little seedling, will officially be a sprout. If she genuinely had an inkling of a conviction, Tomura wanted to nurture it until it twists into something that resembled his own.
Tomura's mind wandered to someone he hasn't thought of in years. Hero Killer: Stain. As much as he disliked Stain, he had unintentionally helped set The League of Villains' foundation. Every member of The League came to him via Stain's influence, except for Kurogiri and y/n.
Tomura thought about how Stain has inspired them all. Himiko was questionable at best, but the others have stuck close to Stain's ideals. Although he's gone and sent away to Tartarus, each member blindly holds that piece of Stain with them.
That's what Tomura wanted. Y/n was a good starting point. If he could somehow get her to see his views in earnest, he was sure she would follow him just as blindly as his League follows Stain. Tomura knew he had to be careful. He needed to guide y/n into thinking she was coming up with her conclusions on her own.
Tomura could hardly sleep. Today was the starting point of twisting y/n's mind into something that best suits him. He wanted to work on building that foundation with her while The League goes on yet another hiatus.
Y/n woke up to the sun shining in her face. She rolled over and groaned. "Stay down for a few more hours," she mumbled while covering her head with her pillow.
An hour later, y/n found herself waking up again. Y/n's room was much darker than she remembered. Y/n sat up, still drained from her time out with The League. Y/n found herself in a daze, unsure if she woke up late at night or very early morning. Y/n was still sluggish, but she knew she had to get herself out of bed before she found herself sleeping for a full twenty-four hours.
Y/n slowly left her room and made her way to the living room where Tomura practically lived. Much to her surprise, Tomura was wide awake. He looked up from his game towards y/n's direction. "Uhm," y/n uttered the moment the two of them made eye contact.
The villain tapped the seat next to him with three fingers as he glanced back down to his game. Y/n felt her heart jump to her throat. Tomura has never invited her to sit next to him before. Usually, she did so on her own accord. Without hesitating, she approached the villain and sat down next to him.
Y/n sat silently next to Tomura. He hadn't even looked at her since he returned to his game. Y/n was sure he was too absorbed to talk to her at the moment. Admittedly, the kisses made things awkward. Neither one of them has brought up what was next for them. For all y/n knew, nothing has changed between them, and the kisses were a fluke.
Y/n didn't know how she felt about anything. Tomura somehow unintentionally managed to make everything complicated.
She still believed persuing Tomura was only going to lead to heartbreak. Y/n didn't know how to explain how she felt about Tomura correctly. She wasn't in love with the villain that she knew for sure. However, she did genuinely love Tomura in the same sense that she cared about his wellbeing. Y/n wanted what was best for him.
Unfortunately for y/n, what was best for him most likely translated to him being sent away to Tartarus. So he was no longer a danger to the public or himself. Y/n's mind foolishly traveled to prison relationships. She was aware that some people manage to stick together, while one half is in prison. Y/n felt ridiculous thinking about something like that. Tartarus was no ordinary prison. She wouldn't be able to visit him once a week from behind bars. It's not that simple.
Y/n knew herself to be a selfish person at heart. She was always looking out for her best interest. However, to allow herself to fall in love with Tomura would mean that she had to stop caring about what was best for him. Y/n knew she couldn't do that.
She suddenly remembered where she was in the present and glanced over to his game. Y/n wondered if she should ask about it, as an ice breaker. However, as always, Tomura beat her to it.
"Was last night awful?" he asked.
"Terrible," she replied. The Nomu Attack was probably one of the worst experiences of her life. In reality, she surprisingly didn't run into much trouble. Y/n could recall only three times where a hero had come in contact with her. Y/n guessed Tomura had planned for something like that when he gave her the roll. He could have easily had made y/n follow him around, but he chose to keep her at a distance.
"What was so terrible?" Tomura asked. He placed down his game and looked at y/n. She felt warm inside, seeing Tomura give her his full attention.
Y/n began to recall some of the horrific things she saw the civilians do. Y/n explained how jarring it was to see ordinary people snap and do such horrid things. "Most of them have quirks," y/n said, concluding her thoughts; "why didn't any of them protect themselves?"
"That's just how people are," Tomura responded. Y/n frowned at his answer. She expected Tomura to have a more profound response than that. Tomura stared at her for a while and continued. "It's those quirk laws stopping them. Don't you think waiting for a hero to fix everything is dangerous?"
Y/n placed a thumb under her chin and thought about it. He wasn't wrong. There's no way a hero or police officer would be around all the time, and waiting to be saved did sound dangerous. "I guess..."
Tomura gave her one of his rare smiles. Y/n felt her heart skip a beat, seeing something so precious. "Well, I'm sorry you had to see how trash our society truly is. One day, I hope to fix that one day. Please stay strong and see it happen."
Y/n's chest tightened at his words. She felt like she didn't have a place to go. Y/n couldn't rely on her friends, and she felt like she couldn't trust anyone she met from this point on. Tomura's words made her feel safe and secure. Y/n gave him a nod — the words she wanted to say stuck to her throat and refused to come out.
Y/n wasn't sure if she wanted to see the future Tomura envisioned. However, as selfish as it was, y/n felt good having a place in the world. Finally, her thoughts managed to crawl its way out of her throat. She beamed at Tomura. "Thank you."
Tomura stood up, and y/n watched him wander off into the kitchen. From the other room, y/n could hear drawers being opened and gently slammed. Between drawers opening and closing, the sound of Tomura rummaging through the drawers came through to the living room. He came back with a small notebook in his hand.
"I had to do this when I was a kid. My master insisted on it. It was helpful sometimes. I'm sure someone like you will be able to make even better use of it than I did." Tomura presented the notebook to y/n.
She held it in her hands and looked down at it. "What's this?" She opened the leather cover, and her fingers ran along the edge of the pages. It was completely blank.
"Its for you to write down your thoughts. You can put whatever you'd like in there, but I'd love for you to help me make the future better. Write down what kind of goals you think The League could strive for." He placed a few fingers on her head and delicately played with her hair. "I don't care if you think what you write is stupid. Just put it out there. Maybe there will be some gold hidden in that head of yours."
Author's Note:
Sorry for the unusually short chapter. I've been kinda busy these past few days with irl stuff that might have involved my car getting searched for drugs and ending with the cops removing my license plates. 😅😅 I've been waking up super early (by my standards) these past few days trying to get plates back on my car so I'm pretty brain dead rn after dealing with the courthouse and DMV and such.
