Escape

The League was harder to find than y/n thought. Dabi was the only one with a flashy quirk. Off in the distance, y/n could see Dabi's flames erupt like mini mushroom clouds. From her vantage point, y/n guessed that he was several blocks away.

Y/n circled the roof's perimeter. She didn't expect everyone to scatter. Y/n was no longer able to see Himiko anywhere nearby, she wondered where the blonde schoolgirl ran off to. After searching the streets and coming up empty-handed, y/n considered moving elsewhere.

Y/n hesitated as she looked down the fire escape. Images of the chaos played in her mind like a movie. She wished that someone was around to tell her what to do. Y/n reminded herself that she had to keep moving. The League was no longer around, and she needed to catch up to them. Unable to fully calm her nerves, y/n slowly made get way down the fire escape.

Now safely on the ground, y/n stood still near the alleyway's entrance. She pressed her back against the brick wall of the now-abandoned apartment complex as she watched the discord on the streets up close and personal. Y/n frowned at the sight before her.

In the chaos, y/n spotted a grown man, several years older than her, running. A Nomu was close behind him. Y/n covered her mouth in horror as she witnessed the man grab onto a scared child and push the little girl into the Nomu's arms. The smile on his face was carved into y/n's memory.

The lack of regret mixed with the relieved expression was sickening. Y/n fought the urge to chase after him and make sure he got what was coming to him. She bit down on her inner cheek and stopped herself from verbally complaining about what she had just witnessed. Y/n didn't want to clutter her only form of communication with The League with her thoughts. Idiot. I'm sure he had a quirk. Why didn't he just use it?

Y/n weaved between people running around in disarray. No one was taking any consideration for each other; it was every man for themselves. There were several times when y/n nearly toppled over from someone bumping into her.

Up ahead of y/n, she saw a woman trip and fall over. Y/n tried to fight the current of bodies to offer the woman her hand. Y/n stopped in her tracks, and her eyes locked ahead of her. The woman was dead by the time y/n made it to her. She was trampled by the hoards of people running for their lives. Y/n shook her head. She had previously wondered if this scene was reminiscent of hell. Y/n was convinced that hell had crawled its way up to the surface.

Y/n weaved in between people. Everyone was trying to run to safety; y/n was trying to get herself closer to the heart of the destruction. As she made her way up the street, y/n kept the woman in mind. Allowing herself to be knocked over could mean death.

Eventually, y/n found herself on a street lined with dust and bone. By now, y/n could recognize Tomura's work. Her heart fluttered, knowing Tomura had been here at one point. But that feeling was drowned by an overwhelming bout of loneliness.

Y/n considered her options. She couldn't decide if she should stop here for the time being or if she should keep looking for more signs of The League. This street was littered with Tomura's quirk. Y/n decided to stop and look for Tomura. If she couldn't find him, she would move on.

Keeping an eye out for heroes, y/n made her way to a tall building. Y/n learned to appreciate being up high. Being on ground level made y/n feel uncertain. She could barely breathe from the debris flying around, and she couldn't see what's ahead of her. For all she knew, y/n was walking right up to a hero. Y/n feared being captured more than anything. She wasn't ready to go to prison.

Y/n's heart raced. The door was right there. Several unfamiliar voices caught her attention. Civilians or Heroes? Y/n's mind jumped back and forth between the two before deciding to drop and crawl under a car.

Although her mask stifled her voice, she couldn't stop herself from instinctively placing her hands where her mouth would be. Y/n listened to the sounds as they grew closer. She held her breath as they stopped near the car. Y/n's eyes welled up as she wondered if they knew she was hiding right behind them.

They were talking about their plan. The city was currently surrounded, and heroes were sweeping the area in pairs to look for any League of Villains member. Sounding distraught, y/n repeated the hero's words. This information was bound to help The League.

The heroes continued their patrol of the city. Y/n stayed still much longer than she needed to. Y/n couldn't get herself to move her limbs. She reminded herself that she can't stay under the car, it was only a temporary safety.

The front door was unlocked. She stumbled around in the darkness as she found the stairwell. Y/n's mind raced as she made her way up to the roof. She wondered if she'd be able to see Tomura from this building. Y/n couldn't help but wonder if she'd find him dead or alive.

Y/n tripped over herself as the building rumbled. Y/n considered going back down the stairs and finding a new vantage point. She ignored the thoughts as she forced herself to her feet and continued rushing up the stairwell.

Y/n felt an unusually warm breeze as soon as she made it onto the roof. She was much closer to the destruction, and y/n could feel the heat from Dabi's quirk radiate in the air around her. Y/n noticed the building didn't have any railings around the edge. Y/n forced herself to stay close to the center.
She got down low and pulled out her binoculars. Y/n spotted Spinner, she recalled Tomura explaining that Spinner rarely fought alone. Y/n scanned her surroundings. In his usual dramatized manner, Compress popped out of a marble that was hidden under a small pile of rubble.

Y/n noticed some members had gone mia. She had seen Himiko earlier. Dabi's flames have nearly taken over the city. She has seen remnants of Tomura's Decay, and she currently had eyes on Spinner and Compress.
Y/n wondered where Twice and Kurogiri were. She considered using her mask to ask Compress where they are. After giving it some thought, she decided against it.

Her bird's eye view gave The League a better advantage than she thought. Y/n spotted six costumed figures swiftly charging towards Spinner and Compress. Y/n held her breath as she got down lower. "Mister, six heroes headed your way from the right."

Y/n could just barely see Compress and Spinner look over to each other for a moment before turning tail at an instant. Y/n wondered if six heroes were too much for them. She couldn't blame them. Y/n would have fled if she was told a single hero was coming her way.

She kept her head down low, and although her mask is soundproof, y/n refused to make a sound. Down below her, y/n could hear the heroes talking among each other, but she couldn't discern what they were saying. Y/n wished she was close enough to listen in. For all she knew, they had located Tomura or any of the missing members of The League, and they were currently taking them away.

Y/n kept her eyes plastered on what little of the heroes she could see from her vantage point. She was stuck laying face down on the cold concrete roof until those heroes move. Y/n didn't want to risk giving away her location. Move, y/n demanded.

The heroes surveyed the general area for a while. She could hear their voices travel around. Y/n closed her eyes and tried to imagine where they were down below just by the sounds she heard. "Come on, move, " she complained in a low whisper. Y/n held her breath, realizing she spoke out loud. Any League member listening for her just heard her.

A nearby building, a few blocks away, rumbled before blue flames erupted out If the windows. Y/n heard the voices down below yell, and then silence. She listened carefully for a while. Y/n had no idea how long she stayed still; it felt like both minutes and hours. Slowly and cautiously, y/n stood up and hurried down the flight of stairs.

Y/n scanned the road from the door. The power was out in this area, and she only had the flames from Dabi's quirk lighting her way. A darkened figure seemingly appeared out of nowhere in front of y/n.

Startled, she stumbled backward and fell. The figure lowered itself and bore its teeth at her. Y/n got a good look at the mysterious black mass, it was a Nomu. She clenched her eyes shut and waited for the worst. Y/n expected the Nomu to bite off her head or rip her limbs off.

She could feel the Nomu's warm breath brush against her face. Y/n slowly opened her eyes and saw the Nomu's blank stare. The monster backed away and left. Y/n felt relieved. She guessed that these Nomu must somehow know she's part of The League. Y/n watched the Nomu exit as she wondered if her Nomu was out there. She decided now wasn't the time to be thinking about something like that before getting to her feet and hurrying out the building.

Y/n spotted a small building. It was only a story tall, but it was as close to the chaos as she was getting. The way to the building was swarming with people fleeing and Nomu. Y/n thought she was going to be trampled on the way there.
Standing so close to Dabi's flames and the failing electrical equipment, y/n began to feel overdressed.

What was once a cold, Spring night was blistering hot as if it were Summer. She felt some mild relief as she entered the building. Climbing up to the roof, y/n nearly felt like she was going to faint from heat exhaustion. As soon as she made her way onto the roof, y/n sat down and pulled off her mask to get some fresh air.

It felt like the air was burning her lungs as she breathed in. Y/n coughed. She pulled the hoodie over her mouth as if the fabric was going to filter out the heat. Through blurred vision, y/n saw Twice.

Wearily, y/n took the mask and held it against her face. "Twice, two heroes to your left, down a block. They're distracted by a Nomu." Y/n watched as the black and grey blur moved in closer to the left. She rubbed her eyes, trying to regain her vision.

Y/n just barely caught Twice's kills. He used his tape measure weapon to slice off a hero's head, freeing the Nomu, who was trapped in their grip. The Nomu retaliated against the other hero. It dug its fangs into the hero's neck and began shaking the hero around like a dog with a toy. The hero eventually freed herself from the Nomu's jaws, only to be sliced in half by Twice's tape measure.

Twice gave her a thumbs up along with a disappointed head shake before wandering off. Y/n considered trailing him. The League seemed to be acutely aware of where everyone is. She wondered if he was going to meet up with someone else.

Y/n tried to stand up, but she toppled back onto the concrete roof. She felt nauseous from the ever-growing heat around her. Y/n couldn't find the energy to force herself to stand up and walk. The building rumbled below her. Y/n didn't think anything of it. Every building she has taken sanctuary in has rumbled and shaken. Y/n had become numb to the feeling. She was used to it.

Y/n kept her mind off of it and surveyed the scenery around her. She felt the building thunder more aggressively. Y/n forced herself to stand up and peek over the edge. A Nomu burst through the wall as the bottom floor exploded into flames. Y/n scooted away from the side. Right in front of her, a chunk of the concrete roof fell into the fiery inferno below. "Oh no," y/n gasped; "no no no no no." In her panic, y/n found the strength to run towards the ladder.

She felt the floor collapse below her. She reached into her hoodie and flicked open the locket. Tomura promised her Nobuo was one of the fastest Nomu they had created, it was time to test that statement. She pushed down on the little button. Y/n closed her eyes and prepared for the worst.

Her head hurt. She could feel something slowly drip from her forehead down the side of her face. Dust, debris, and smoke filled the air. Y/n sat up and pulled off her mask. She began to dry heave as her lungs filled up with dust. Y/n has never felt more reassured to feel pain. Pain meant she was alive.

She glanced up and saw Nobuo's slender frame sheltered over her. He was blocking a chunk of fallen concrete. A chill ran down her spine as y/n realized that concrete slab would have fallen directly on her had Nobuo not protected her. Suddenly, the dust invading her lungs didn't seem to matter anymore. Not after knowing she was so close to death.

Y/n wiped her face with her hand and took a look. She saw the red smear on her palm. Y/n turned to Nobuo. "Good job, go on." As much as y/n wanted to keep her Nomu by her side, she knew she couldn't be seen with him. Y/n watched as Nobuo shook off the concrete and crept away into the madness.

Y/n struggled to her feet and looked around. She picked up the mask that nearly blended into the surrounding debris and darkness. She wondered if it still worked. Y/n wouldn't be surprised if it broke in her fall. She held the mask tightly in her hands and turned on her voice box. "Hello?" Silence. "Damn it," y/n spat as she threw the mask down against the ground in frustration.

A voice caught her attention. "Hey, you!" Y/n didn't think anything of it and reached down to pick up her broken mask. The voice grew closer and angrier. "I'm talking to you." Y/n looked up towards the direction of the sound. A hero was headed her way. Without giving it a second thought, y/n fled. His voice followed after her. "Villain, stop!" he demanded. Y/n turned a corner and pushed the little button.

Not long later, she saw Nobuo charging her way. She pointed to the hero right behind her. "Keep him busy!" she yelled. Nobuo rushed past y/n and towards the hero. She could hear the hero report her and warned other heroes to look out for her.

Y/n kept running until she could no longer hear the hero. She turned a corner into an alleyway and knelt next to a dumpster. She pulled off the hoodie and wrapped the broken mask. After catching her breath, y/n stood up and headed towards a crowd.

Her plan was to safely follow the crowd and blend in. She told herself that she had to take her time and slowly make her way to the rendezvous spot. She was sure everyone would realize something happened to her if she stopped reporting in. A hand firmly grabbed her arm. "I caught you, villain." Y/n whipped around and looked up at the hero.

"Villain?" y/n asked, her heart felt like it was nearly going to stop; "me?" Y/n knew there was no better time to use her quirk. "You mean the girl with the mask?" Y/n's grip on her hoodie tightened. She motioned to the crowd. "She ran through the crowd."

After a moment, the hero let go of y/n and apologized. "Get to safety. There's a barricaded spot. Follow everyone else." Y/n nodded and thanked the hero before joining the crowd.

The group was headed to the barricades, and y/n followed them. Up ahead, she saw pros outside a heavily guarded building. Inside, she caught glimpses of medics running to and fro. The entrance to the barricade was being blocked by the police. As thoroughly, yet quickly as they could, they were approving civilians individually and letting them inside. Y/n guessed that they must be looking for villains trying to get in.

She took a deep breath. Y/n knew there was no way she could get inside. She glanced off to the side and spotted an alley. Y/n wondered if she could sneak in there before a hero or cop noticed. As soon as the police seemed distracted by the congestion of people trying to get in, y/n sprinted for the alley.

Y/n felt the hair on the back of her neck rise as she heard a voice. "We have a runner." Y/n sprinted as fast as she could away from the commotion, the pounding of footsteps were on her tail.
Y/n was unfamiliar with the city. As she ran, y/n took random twists and turns, trying to confuse whoever was following her. Her heart felt like it was going to beat right out of her chest as she heard the footsteps growing nearer and nearer.

Out of desperation, y/n took the broken mask in her pocket. "Someone help me, please, " y/n begged to the silence, knowing full well that no one was going to hear her pleas.

Y/n shoved the mask back into her picket as she ran towards a chain-link fence. Y/n never knew herself to be a climber, but with the adrenaline pumping in her veins, she managed to scurry her way up and over the fence.
Taking a multitude of abrupt twists and turns, y/n found herself in an alley. She jumped into the dumpster inside and waited. Y/n held her breath, both out of fear that her breathing would give away her location and because of the sickening stench.

Y/n heard footsteps pass by her. She sat in silence and waited, not convinced that she fooled whoever was chasing her. Getting away from the wretched odors coming from the garbage was the only thing left to motivate y/n to go and find her way to the rendezvous spot. If not for the smell, y/n would have gladly waited in the dumpster for Tomura to magically find her.

She climbed out of the dumpster and pressed herself against the wall. Y/n crept to the end of the alley. She poked her head out and studied the area. Y/n knew getting out of the city was going to take some patience. She was going to get caught if she rushed herself.

Trying to get out of the city via traveling through alleys and hiding as often as possible was time-consuming. Y/n felt like she had been navigating the city for days.

The trek out of the city became more accessible the further away y/n got. All the heroes were inside the city, leaving the outskirts nearly unprotected.

Y/n wandered around the outskirts of town. It's been so long since the start of the Nomu Attack, she barely remembers where Tomura had told her to go if she ran into any trouble. Weak and tired, y/n walked out of the city and into a heavily forested area. Y/n felt like she was about to collapse as she reached the top of a grassy hill.

Y/n looked down at the city below her. The mixture of blue and orange flames seemed to be spreading, and smoke rose into the sky. The faint sounds of sirens were barely audible.

For the first time since the beginning of The League's attack, it began to feel like Spring again. Y/n shivered as a gust of cold air brushed up against her. Y/n weakly put the hoodie back on and held onto the broken mask in her hand.

Y/n curled forward and tucked her knees to her face as a helicopter flew overhead and towards the city. Y/n figured that they were far too concerned about the destruction to notice her sitting alone. However, y/n was sure they'd spot her when they rewind their footage. Y/n hoped the hoodie covered enough of her identity.

Y/n decided that she didn't want to risk her identity being discovered again. She made her way under a large tree. At least this way, a helicopter won't see me.

Y/n wondered how long until The League comes back. She didn't know all the members too well. Some, like Compress and Kurogiri, y/n guessed, would want to stop sooner. While others, like Tomura and Himiko, would probably want to keep up the mayhem for as long as possible.

Y/n's heart sank, knowing Tomura would be one of the last ones to go home. She caught herself nodding off from time to time, y/n did her best to keep herself awake.

Y/n felt the prickly feeling of grass on her cheek. She sat up and yawned as she rubbed the sensation away. "I'm going to get caught, huh?"

Y/n looked over to see Tomura sitting next to her. His eyes fixated to the city below them. Y/n felt a tinge of heat rise up, remembering that she swore she wasn't going to make it out of the Nomu Attack and using that to steal a kiss from Tomura. "I, uh," y/n was coming up empty-handed. She had no idea how she was going to defend herself.

She wondered if Tomura was mad at her for the kiss. Y/n recalled the kiss and couldn't tell if he liked it. She hugged her knees to her chest and buried her face. Y/n knew she had to apologize to Tomura for jumping to conclusions and acting on it. Y/n never thought she'd ever had to genuinely apologize to Tomura as she struggled to find her words. She wondered if this is how Tomura felt every time he's forced himself to apologize to her. It hit y/n how much work it was.

Y/n saw Tomura pull Father from his face. She ground her teeth, it was even harder to apologize now, seeing his face unobscured. Y/n let out a silent sigh. "Tomura, I..." her voice trailed off. She wanted to say she was sorry, but considering everything, it didn't sound like enough.

Tomura leaned in close to y/n and looked at her face. Y/n felt herself burning up as she watched Tomura's eyes. He made slight eye contact with her. Then they traveled down. Sometimes she noticed he'd blink and look off to the side. For a moment, y/n forgot that she was trying to apologize and wanted to ask Tomura what he was looking at.

Y/n watched as Tomura's eyes narrowed. She heard him let out a frustrated growl. He tilted his head for a quick moment before straightening it out. Y/n found her courage to talk. "What are you doing?"

Tomura frowned at her. "Shut up." Y/n kept her mouth shut and watched Tomura's unusual behavior. Tomura placed a pair of fingers along her temple and slightly parted her hair. It took y/n a moment to realize he was most likely looking at the cut from earlier.

Adrenaline was running through her veins. Paired with the overstimulation from trying to get out of the city, y/n had nearly forgotten about the wound.
Y/n closed her eyes as Tomura's hand traveled away from her head and near her cheek. She felt his cold skin roughly rub against her skin.

Y/n opened her eyes to see Tomura observing some dry remnants of blood on his hand. Shr noticed he was looking at the blood on his hand a little too much, she wondered what he was thinking about. She couldn't help herself but poke at the wound herself. It stung but had long stopped bleeding. Thanks to her Nomu protecting her, y/n came out less hurt than she could have been.

Her attention from her head was cut short. She felt a familiar gaze on her. Y/n looked over to see Tomura even closer to her face than before. Y/n wondered if something was wrong. She couldn't help but think that she accidentally reopened the cut when she prodded at it.

Tomura let out yet another frustrated noise before leaning forward and giving y/n a very short kiss on her lips. Y/n felt her skin crawl, and her face was burning up at Tomura's sweet gesture. For a second, y/n forgot how to breathe. Never did she think a little peck on the lips would leave her breathless. Y/n gave Tomura a warm smile to show how much she appreciated the little kiss.

Tomura glanced down at y/n before turning back towards the city. He placed Father on his face. Y/n rested her head on her knees as the two of them watched the city's inevitable destruction from a safe distance.

Every so often, y/n would look over to Tomura. She could see the most genuine smile on his face, and his eyes light up at the sight of the burning city. Y/n found the look of wonder on Tomura's face far more interesting than the city.

She was unable to stop this attack from happening. As of today, y/n was officially a member of The League of Villains. Y/n wondered how her life was going to play out from here on out. Y/n thought about all the death she was going to see. Y/n glimpsed up at Tomura and looked at the purest look of happiness on his face.

As much as she didn't want this for herself, y/n wanted to see Tomura like that more often.
