Jia's PoV
Choi Mujin's cold, scrutinising gaze lingered on Jia for a beat longer than necessary. His dark eyes, sharp as a hawk's, scanned her face as if trying to place herβdigging beneath her skin in a way that made her uneasy. Without a word, he shifted his attention back to Jaehyun, giving him a slight nod.
"I'll leave you to it," Mujin said, his voice low and gravelly, smooth as polished stone. His words felt more like an unspoken command than a courteous exit. The air in the room seemed to thin as he moved, his presence almost suffocating. He brushed past Jia with a casual indifference, but the brief proximity sent a shiver down her spine. She couldn't shake the feelingβan instinctual warning, like she had just crossed paths with something far more dangerous than she could yet comprehend.
Mujin's leather-soled shoes barely made a sound as he exited, but the door clicked shut behind him with a finality that echoed in the now quiet room.
Jia stood still for a moment, trying to gather herself. The strange, uncomfortable feeling Mujin left in his wake clung to her, but she quickly pushed it aside. She had more pressing matters to address.
She turned to Jaehyun, her eyes narrowing. With a firm hand, she shut the door behind her, the click much louder in the empty silence. Then, without hesitation, she began to stride toward him, her heels clicking sharply against the tiled floor as she closed the distance between them.
Jaehyun leaned back slightly, his gaze calm and measured, but there was something in the way his eyes darkened ever so slightly as she approached. He folded his arms across his chest, watching her intently, as if intrigued by what she might do next.
Jia stopped just short of him, her chin tilting up as she locked eyes with him. "Who the hell was that?" she demanded, her voice low but cutting, eyes blazing with both curiosity and suspicion. She wasn't playing around.
Jaehyun arched a brow, the corners of his lips twitching as if suppressing a smirk. "Choi Mujin," he replied smoothly. "One of Geum Entertainment's major shareholders."
"Yeah, I know who he is." Jia's voice hardened. "I also know he's got only financial interest in this company." She studied his face, trying to find any crack in his mask, any hint of what was really going on.
Jaehyun didn't flinch. He remained annoyingly composed, his eyes still glued to her as if daring her to dig deeper.
"You don't trust me, do you, Areum?" His voice was soft, almost teasing, but there was a dangerous edge to it that made her heart raceβnot from fear, but from the tension that always lingered between them.
She stepped closer, her breath hitching as her body hummed with frustration. "I don't trust anyone," she shot back.
He tilted his head slightly, amusement flashing in his eyes. "Good." He leaned in, his voice dropping lower. "You shouldn't." Jaehyun's eyes glittered with something dangerous, though his lips barely moved. He straightened up from his position, unfolding his arms and taking a step closer to her. "So, tell me, Areum. What brings you barging into my office this time?" His voice was smooth, but laced with something dark, daring her to cut straight to the point.
Jia blinked, momentarily thrown off by his question. She'd been so focused on confronting him, on the tension humming between them, that she almost forgot the real reason she was here. But the sharp edge in his voice snapped her back into focus.
She pulled her phone from her pocket and quickly unlocked it, scrolling through her messages. The list. Her eyes landed on the document, and she thrust the phone toward Jaehyun, letting him take it from her hands.
"The Han Church," she started, her voice suddenly colder, more professional. "I've been digging, like we agreed. And I've found a few things you might be interested in."
Jaehyun took the phone from her, his gaze flicking down to the screen as he scanned through the list. His face remained expressionless, but Jia didn't miss the slight twitch of his jaw.
"These are politicians," she continued, crossing her arms. "Big names. Ministers, assembly members. All linked to the Han ChurchβRyu Han's cult. They frequent his sermons, they donate absurd amounts of money, and most of them have been visiting his compound for decades. And it gets worse."
Jaehyun's eyes lifted from the screen, meeting hers with an intensity that made her pulse quicken. "Worse how?"
Jia exhaled, her mind racing as she recalled the eerie ritual Hana had sent her. "There's more than just donations and visits," she said. "I received footage from an old NIS case file. Some ritual from a few decades ago. It's not violentβat least not in this video, but the way they bow and cry at Ryu Han's feet... it's like they're worshipping him. Like he's some kind of living god. More than that, he's been linked to countless cases involving minors, and the skin industryβ yet due to 'lack of evidence' he's let go of each time." She shuddered at the memory of it, her skin crawling.
Jaehyun was silent for a moment, his gaze boring into her, unreadable. Then, without looking away, he handed her phone back to her. "And these politicians... they're still active in his network?"
Jia nodded. "As far as I can tell. The police and other services have been watching some of them for years, but nothing's ever stuck. They're powerful enough to cover their tracks." She paused, her eyes narrowing. "I thought you'd want to know, given your... apparent grudge against Ryu Han."
Jaehyun's lips curled into a slow, calculating smile, though it didn't reach his eyes. "Oh, I'm very interested, Areum." He leaned forward slightly, the distance between them closing, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "But tell me, how deep do you plan on going into this?"
Jia met his gaze head-on, ignoring the way her heart raced. "Deep enough to take him down," she said, her voice firm. "You said it yourselfβyou want him out of the way. And I'm going to make sure that happens."
Jaehyun studied her for a moment, his eyes flicking over her face, as if searching for something. Then he straightened up, his smirk returning. "I like your conviction, Areum." He moved back slightly, giving her space. "But be careful. Ryu Han's influence runs deeper than you think. And getting tangled up with those politicians..." He trailed off, a dark look crossing his face. "That's not a fight you want to start unless you're sure you can win."
Jia stiffened, her lips pressing into a thin line. "I'm not backing down, if that's what you're suggesting."
Jaehyun's smirk widened, something almost predatory glinting in his eyes. "Good. I wouldn't expect you to."
Jia took a breath, her mind racing as she pieced together her next move. "I've been looking into the upcoming charity gala. It's being hosted by one of the politicians on that listβSeungmin Choi. You know him?" She didn't wait for Jaehyun's response, her determination taking over. "He's a key figure in the Han Church network, and from what I've gathered, this event is going to be filled with influential people, including some of the other names on that list. It's the perfect opportunity for me to get close to them."
Jaehyun leaned back against his desk, crossing his arms with an air of amusement. His eyes sparkled with a mixture of interest and condescension, making it clear he was both entertained and impressed by her boldness. "A charity gala? How quaint. You really think a night of sipping champagne and mingling with the elite is going to get you closer to Ryu Han?"
"Not Ryu Han," she countered, pushing past his cocky demeanor. "This is about understanding the entire operation behind the Han Church. If I can make connections with these politicians and see how they interact with Ryu Han's circle, I'll have a better chance of uncovering their ties and their weaknesses. Besides," she added, a glimmer of excitement lighting her eyes, "I've been practicing my networking skills. I can charm my way into conversations if I play it right."
Jaehyun chuckled, the sound low and teasing. "Oh, I have no doubt you're charming enough. But charming a bunch of corrupt politicians isn't the same as getting what you want. They're not exactly known for their hospitality to outsiders."
"I know that," Jia said, her tone becoming firmer. "But I also know they'll be flattered by attention from someone like me. I'll play the part of an eager marketing consultant looking to make connections, and I'll position myself as a valuable asset to their interests. If I can get a few of them talkingβespecially about the Han Church and their involvement in the communityβI might learn something useful."
Jaehyun regarded her with a mixture of admiration and scepticism, a smirk playing on his lips. "You really think they'll just spill their secrets to you over cocktails? Sounds like a bit of a fairy tale, don't you think?"
"Not if I approach it strategically," she replied, undeterred. "I'll research their interests, find common ground, and draw them into discussions about philanthropy and community outreach. People love to talk about themselves, especially in a setting like that. I just need to know what angles to play. If I can get close enough, I might overhear something critical or even catch one of them off guard."
"Clever, but risky," Jaehyun replied, his expression turning serious for a moment. "What if they don't take kindly to your inquiries? What if you're outed as an outsider?"
She shrugged, her confidence unwavering. "I'll take the risk. If I'm going to dismantle Ryu Han's operation, I have to be willing to dive into the heart of it. Plus, there's another benefitβthis gala will attract media attention. If I can get some photos or social media posts highlighting their connections to the Han Church, it'll raise public awareness and put pressure on them."
Jaehyun raised an eyebrow, clearly impressed. "You've thought this through, haven't you? But tell me, Areum, how do you plan to handle it if you encounter someone like Ryu Han or one of his loyalists? They won't be as easy to charm."
"True," she conceded, "but I'll have to navigate that carefully. I can use the other politicians as shields, acting as if I'm focused on them while I keep an eye on Ryu Han. If he's there, I'll need to stay under the radarβlet them underestimate me. If I can get close enough to see his interactions with the others, I might be able to gather critical intel without raising any alarms."
"Sounds like a dangerous game," Jaehyun remarked, his voice dripping with amusement. "But I admire your courage, even if it's a bit reckless. You really think you can pull it off?"
"Of course," Jia replied, her voice steady. "And I'll need your support, even if you don't want to admit it. You know the dynamics of this world better than I do, and you've got connections. If we're going to make a significant impact, I could use your insight and resources to prepare."
Jaehyun smiled, his cocky demeanor returning. "You've piqued my interest, Areum. How could I say no to a night filled with politicians and intrigue? I could be your personal shadow, ensuring you're not caught off guard. Besides," he added, a glimmer in his eyes, "I can't resist watching you charm your way through a room full of sharks. It's bound to be entertaining."
Jia felt a rush of excitement at the prospect. "Then it's settled. We'll work together to ensure this goes off without a hitch. With your experience and my initiative, we might actually uncover something big."
Jaehyun's gaze lingered on her, a blend of admiration and mischief dancing in his eyes. "Just remember, Areum, in this game, trust is a dangerous currency. Keep your wits about you."
"Always," Jia said, her resolve stronger than ever. They exchanged a knowing look, each understanding the gravity of what lay ahead. With the gala looming and their plans taking shape, Jia felt the thrill of the hunt surge within her. They were stepping into dangerous territory, but the stakes had never been higher.

Jungkook's eyes remained fixed on her back as she walked away, his gaze burning with an intensity that made the air feel thicker. The sharp, rhythmic click of her heels echoed through the room, each step stoking the embers of his rage. Jia paused at the doorway, casting one final look over her shoulderβsomething defiant, almost challengingβbefore closing the door with a soft click that felt like a gunshot in the silence. The sound reverberated in his ears long after she vanished down the corridor, likely heading back to her desk as if nothing had happened.
His mind was ablaze, each name on the list she had shown him seared into his memory as if branded there. The names swam before his eyes, each one fuelling the fire that clawed at the walls of his restraint. His jaw tightened, muscles twitching with barely contained fury, as his fingers dug into the armrests of his chair. Finally, he collapsed back into the seat, and a dry, humourless laugh escaped him. It started as a low rumble, almost inaudible, but quickly grew louder, more manic, until it filled the entire office, drowning out the silence. There was no mirth in itβonly bitterness, and something darker, more twisted.
Reaching into his pocket, Jungkook pulled out his phone with a deliberate slowness, his movements controlled despite the chaos brewing inside him. He pressed it to his ear, waiting as the line connected, his laughter dying into a sinister smile that twisted his features. A voice finally answered on the other end, calm and steady.
"Yoongi," Jungkook greeted, but there was nothing friendly in the way he said the name. His eyes drifted to the sprawling cityscape outside his window, a kingdom that he had built with his own hands. A kingdom that someone dared to taint. "I've got a list to send you," he murmured, voice low and dangerous, like the calm before a storm. "Seems Jaesuk wasn't the only one who thought he could test me. It's time to remind them who this empire belongs to. It's time to cleanse."

Jia stepped out of her bathroom, the steam swirling around her as she adjusted the belt of her bathrobe. The faint scent of lavender lingered in the air, a remnant of her rushed shower. She was just about to head to her bedroom when there was a knock on the door.
"Areum, you in there?" Jaehyun's voice floated through the door, smooth and teasing.
"Yeah, just a minute!" she called back, her heart racing at the thought of him being so close. She quickly grabbed a hairbrush, trying to tame her damp hair before opening the door.
When she finally swung the door open, there stood Jaehyun, impeccably dressed in a tailored suit that hugged his frame perfectly. The deep navy fabric contrasted with his light skin, and he looked every bit the wealthy, confident man he was. The corner of his mouth curled into a playful smirk as his gaze travelled over her, lingering a moment too long before he raised an eyebrow.
"Nice place you've got here," he remarked, stepping inside without waiting for an invitation. "Very... cosy." His eyes roamed the small apartment, taking in the mismatched furniture and the clutter of art supplies strewn about. "I didn't expect you to live in such a... different environment."
Jia rolled her eyes, crossing her arms over her robe in a futile attempt to shield herself from his gaze. "It's called having character, Jaehyun. Not everyone needs to live in a penthouse to have style."
He chuckled, glancing back at her with an amused expression. "Character? Is that what we're calling it? I thought it was more like... eclectic." He leaned against the wall, arms crossed, a devil-may-care attitude radiating off him. "What's next? A pet iguana?"
"Very funny," she shot back, feigning annoyance while inwardly appreciating the way he carried himself. "Just give me a moment to get ready, will you?"
"Take your time," he said, his tone light and teasing. "I've always wanted to see how a real-life superhero prepares for a gala." His gaze lingered, and the air between them felt charged.
"Seriously, Jaehyun. Just wait outside," she replied, her voice firm, though a part of her was tempted to invite him in.
"Can't I admire the view?" he quipped, a playful glint in his eyes. "It's not every day I see a gorgeous woman in a bathrobe. Makes me think I should start knocking on doors more often."
Jia could feel a blush creeping up her cheeks, irritation mixing with amusement. "You're incorrigible. Just give me a minute, alright?"
With that, she slipped back into her bathroom, rolling her eyes at herself for letting him get under her skin. As she hurriedly applied her makeup and pulled on her floor-length satin dressβa deep emerald green that hugged her curves and flowed elegantly to the floorβshe couldn't shake off the feeling of anticipation mixed with anxiety.
Once she was satisfied with her appearance, she took a deep breath and stepped back into the living area. Jaehyun's eyes widened as they landed on her, and for a fleeting moment, the teasing glint in his gaze softened into something almost appreciative.
"Wow," he said, the word barely above a whisper, though his cocky demeanour returned swiftly. "You clean up well, Areum. I guess the bathrobe was just a clever ruse to keep me guessing."
"Shut up," she replied, a smile breaking through her earlier annoyance as she tried to hide the flutter of nerves in her stomach. "Let's go before I change my mind about this whole gala thing."
"Lead the way," he said, his voice low and smooth as he gestured for her to exit first, his gaze lingering on her as she walked past. The way he looked at her sent butterflies fluttering in her stomach, but she tried to brush it off.
As they stepped out into the evening air, Jia felt a mix of excitement and apprehension about the night ahead. The gala was their first real opportunity to infiltrate the inner circle of the Han Church, and with Jaehyun by her side, she was determined to make the most of itβeven if it meant navigating the tension simmering between them.

Just a quick add on tooβ
So far the information that the NIS have on 'Jung Jaehyun' is all 'clean'!! He's a normal citizen, part of high society and parents who are wealthy pant owners so he's generational rich!!
And the reason why you may see Jia not exactly acting like a 'no. 2' agent is because she's getting desperate. As mentioned, her head told her she'd be removed if she didn't bring results, and the situation with Jimin has taken a mental toll on herβ yet she chose to keep going with the mission.
Her closeness that exists and will continue to grow with Jaehyun is a result of these tolls affecting her negatively.
In the story, the person she can talk to on a much closer level was Jimin. Unlike Hana he was physically there with her, or could relate in the sense of 'going under cover'.
So naturally, she finds someone to take his place!!
AND THAT ONE BABE IN MY COMMENTS !!!
