Jungkook's PoV
The air in Busan's port tasted especially bitter tonight. Surely, it should've been usual, being a seaside province, but tonight, there was something different about the air. Almost as if it wasn't the minuscule salt particles, from the crashing sea, being carried by the strong gusts, instead, something far more foreboding. Having seen the unwelcoming weather, fishermen had packed up their nets, and parked their boats, deciding to wait out the oncoming storm inside the comfort of their own homes instead.
It was odd, though. Up until yesterday, all weather forecasts were chanting the same mantra; that the following day, tonight, was to be the hottest of the year, so to prepare for a day meant for beach outings. The sudden change in weather ruined many people's plans. Children, who had been excited for a beach day, fathers, who had been awaiting barbecue season all year, women who desired to tan under the glaring heat of the sun, and even, the great Jeon Jungkook.
Jungkook disinterestedly stared at the raindrops pattering against the screen of his car, watching as they raced down the glass. The sky was a musty grey, something his hometown certainly was not know for, and the storm clouds in abundance. It seemed that the rain sought no end, as it continued its relentless abuse on the worn out roads. "Tch." He expressed, pulling his calf up rest on top of his knee, and switched his gaze to meet the pair of eyes staring at him through the rear view mirror. Jungkook arched an eyebrow, tilting his head.
The driver sputtered, looking down at his steering wheel, before awkwardly clearing his throat.
"Is there a problem?" Jungkook spoke, his voice dripping with its usual authoritative tone. "Did Taehyung not mention the destination is Busan Port?" He glanced at the port several miles ahead. "The weather isn't in a forgiving mood and neither will I be if this silence game is continued."
The driver coughed, not yet meeting Jungkook's eyes. "Oh, I just thought it would be a good idea to wait for the rain toβ"
"And since when do you have the right to make any decisions around here?"
"Ohβ it's justβ"
"Are you asking to be reminded of your place, Mr. Hwang?"
"Noβ sirβ of course not!" Hwang stuttered, his breathing growing more and more unstable as the seconds ticked by.
Jungkook eyed the perspiration gathering on his temple, noticing the way the small beads of sweat glinted at the light pouring in from a nearby lamppost. "Are you hot, Mr. Hwang? You're sweating quite a bitβ if it's a fever, I hope you're aware of the company's regulations. The last thing I need is a sickness passed around."
"I'm feeling just a little off, Sir." Hwang's voice cracked as he explained himself.
"Oh? Stomach bug then?" Jungkook uncrossed his legs, manspreading on the back seats of the car. "Or is it the guilt of betraying the family you've worked for, for the last two decades, over some petty cash?"
The breath knocked out of Hwang's lungs, and his body froze while the colour slowly began to drain out of his complexion. He suddenly gasped for air, breaking out of his frozen form. "Iβ myβ uhβ" The pounding sensation in his heart worsened, beating almost too fast for his lungs to catch up. For the first time that night, his eyes accidentally met Jungkook's piercing glare in the review mirror of the car, and he felt like death had finally come for him.
Fumbling, Hwang's fingers shook as he struggled with his seatbelt, before launching himself out of the car, under the rain. Jungkook irritatedly sucked his teeth at the powerful flurry of wind that howled past, bringing a shower of rain into the car too. It was his favourite Mercedes.Β
Outside, Hwang stumbled over his feet as he attempted to escape the jaws of death. The road was slippery because of the rain, and his feet gave up, sending him crashing onto the wet floor. Panting, the air in his lungs cemented when a pair of shoes came to stand in front of him.
Looking up, a breath of relief was all the managed from his lips. "Get out of here!" He warned through clattering teeth. "He knows! We can't go ahead with the plan!"
After being paid by the unknown man, who asked him to kill Jungkook, Hwang went instantly to a gang of local street thugs to hire a contractor to do the job for him. He was shameless, when it came to money, but every time he thought of taking his boss' life, the toothy grin of the little ten year old boy flashed past his eyes; so he hired another pair of hands to kill him. It was the man he had planned to end Jungkook with, towering over him, a sinister smile stretched across his scarred face.
"Go!" Hwang cried out again, feeling his knee grow numb from the impact of his fall. He didn't sense it at first, the fear was far too great, but a searing pain began seeping into his bones.Β
The goon laughed maniacally, twisted his lips into a mocking pout. He stepped forwards, placing his foot onto Hwang's fingers, and twisted the heel of his heavy black combat boots. "What are you?! ARGH!" The older man shouting, feeling a sudden excruciating pain shoot up his spine. His head grew heavy, almost as if too dense for him to hold up and the shadows in the corners of his eyes grew.
He hiccuped, once, then twice, before it was no longer deep, laboured breaths leaving his mouth, but metallic, crimson blood. It was all he could taste on his lips, as he looked up to glance at the man standing above him, his eyes falling upon a weighty metal axe swinging back and forth in the perpetrator's hands. Realising the fate coming his way, Hwang let his head drop onto the road, the pool of his blood mixing with the rain water splashing onto his face, and shut his eyes awaiting the impact.
The Jeon family had never treated him wrong, his pay cheque was more than enough to fund his family, but his rotten desires came in the way. 'I guess I was too greedy.'
Jungkook pulled out his phone from the inside of his suit pocket, opening the phone app. "Taehyung?" He began, watching outside as a dark, hooded figure raised his weapon high over his head before slamming it down the ground.
HACK
He scrunched his eyebrows at a splatter of blood that landed on the window of his car, rolling his eyes at the mess. "Like his father's going come clean this up." He uttered, rolling his eyes.
"Did you say something?" The voice on the other end of the phone confusedly enunciated.
"I'm outside the port, send me a driver." Jungkook didn't wait for a response, cutting the call as soon as his order was given. At that moment, the hooded figure knocked on the window of his car, gaining his full attention. He rolled the window down, and rose an eyebrow to show the he was listening.
"Job's done, boss!" The man excitedly panted, pressing his hands onto the half rolled-down car window.
Jungkook eyed the droplets of blood dripping down his forehead and off his nose, then the print of his heavy hand showing up on the other side of the window. "I can see."
"Erβ boss?"
"Go ahead."
"Where's my reward?"
Jungkook laughed, and the man's smile faded. "You're too funny," he sighed, wiping a tear from the corner of his eye. "It's really a shame you won't be around for long, though."
"Huh?" The contractor's eyes widened.
Jungkook's face hardened, and any traces of joke disappeared. "Stand over there." He pointed at an area a few steps away from the car. His hands reached for a pack of cigarettes sitting in the cup holder of the driver's seat, before exiting the car and shutting both doors that had been left open. "Do you have a lighter?" He asked, placing a cigarette between his lips.
The contractor, nodded, running over and offering his lighter to Jungkook. However, after realising Jungkook didn't plan on taking it himself, he flicked toggle and shielded the amber flame with his hand. Jungkook lowered his head, letting the end of the cigarette burn before taking inhaling puff of tobacco. "Do you think you're smart?" He drawled, pinching the cigarette between his two fingers and letting the smoke swirl around his face.
"Huh? Me?" The contractor shyly blushed, before looking at his feet. "I think, I mean I hope."
"Look at me when I speak to you." At his harsh tone, his smile fell and he instantly straightened up. The corner Jungkook's lip quirked at his response regardless. "Oh? Smarter than me?"
"Huh?! Whatβ noβ I could never!" The man in front of him stammered, tripping over his words.
"Is that so..." Jungkook tilted his neck, stretching the stiff muscles, before dropping his cigarette onto the wet ground, crushing it underneath his sole. Coming closer, he leaned closer into the man's ear, smirking when he saw his throat nervously bob. "Tell me then, why do you still plan on deceiving me?" Jungkook whispered, expecting a reply, but he was met with a powerful grip enveloping his arm, heaving him forwards.
Fortunately, he was quick to retaliate, twisting his forearm to loosen the contractor's grip, before spinning around, letting him take his jacket instead. "Now, that's not very nice." Jungkook tutted, loosening the first few buttons of his shirt, opening the cuffs, and positioning himself with one foot forwards and both hands raised defensively in front of him. The rain worsened and water began soaking into his shirt, sticking to the taught muscle beneath. "Are we quitting so soon?" he taunted, wanting the man to attack first.
"You fucking bastardβ" The contractor seethed, throwing Jungkook's jacket to the side, which earned a dramatised gasp from its owner. He didn't hesitate to charge at Jungkook, relying on his much larger build to simply cause enough damage.
Narrowing his eyes, Jungkook assessed the figure coming towards him, swerving to the right when a strong punch was sent his way. He grabbed his thick wrist before delivering a sharp slice to the inside of his elbow, wrenching it behind his back. The contractor tried to escape with his other hand, but Jungkook kicked the back of his knee, making him fall to the ground onto his knees.
"Surely, it can't be this easy," smirking, Jungkook sneered. The man continued to struggle, making Jungkook huff in annoyance, before grabbing the back of his head. He pulled the contractor's head back, so he could see his face, before bringing crashing down onto the stony concrete. The man screamed at the impact of his nose coming into contact with the stone ground, affirmatively breaking almost every bone or cartilage in his body part.
The abuse continued, as Jungkook relentlessly smashed his head onto the road. Breathing heavily, he finally heaved his heavy form up, forcing him to look at his face.
"Did you think you were sly, attempting to play double agent, under my nose?" The contractor weakly groaned in response. "Tell me, was the punishment, whoever ordered you to go against me, far worse than the one you've signed yourself up to now?" Jungkook pushed his face down, a final time, before letting go of his head to stand up. "You should know to never underestimate your enemies. I wouldn't have been here if I was stupid as every one thinks me to beβ you know it's getting rather irritating. I feel like I should go show them how smart I actually am, because clearly, they think they're up against any old street thug."
At that moment, a car pulled up beside him, the blinding lights from its headlights illuminating the entire area around. Three figures hurried out, rushing to Jungkook's side.
"JK, what the hell are you doing out here?" The tall man, of the three, queried, momentarily glancing at the limp body on the ground. "Uhβ the deal was moved to another day because of the weather, there's no reason to comeΒ here."
"I know." Jungkook beamed, "just clearing out the trash, as you can see." He gestured towards the body of the contractor and Hwang's a little further ahead. His eyes slowly raked the other two figure, as his gaze darkened. "As you can see, I hate liars." Both of the young men swallowed thickly, glancing at one another, through the corners of their eyes, almost as if begging each other for help. "Youβ" his finger aimed at the shorter man. "You're not betraying me, are you?"
The man's throat ran dry, and he peeped at the tallest for a moment, like he was asking him for permission to speak. "Jungkookβ" the tallest sighed.
"I'm talking, Taehyung. You should know more than anyone how much I hate being interrupted." He shook his head.
Taehyung nodded his head and stepped back, detaching himself from the conversation. In clear reality, there was absolutely nothing he could do; assuming that he wanted to anyways.
"I'd usually be a little more welcoming to opponents," Jungkook cracked his knuckles. "But, I've been worn out by this bastard here, and the rain is certainly not helping either." He chuckled, but there was nothing funny to laugh about. "So, I'll let you explain yourself first."
The man stuttered, "S-sir? What do youβ"
The next few seconds whizzed past too swiftly, too rapid for anyone to register what had just happened. Jungkook had twisted out the handgun nestled into the man's back pocket, smoothly aiming its nozzle to his temple. He pulled the trigger once. Twice. Then a final time. Each time, his shoulder drew slightly back, as a flashing light emitting from the reflection of the surrounding light on the rapid metal bullets.
"Taehyung." Jungkook, threw the gun over to him, "get rid of all the bodies." As he walked over to new car, the man standing beside Taehyung hurried over to open the door for him. "And relay the message that they're going to need to try a lot harder if they intend to spy on me."
