Bonus Chapter

As you can see, Chapter Thirty-One got the most votes! So here it is, in Mikko's point of view. It's uneditted because I literally just finished it. It shouldn't be too bad.

The name of the sequel will be Changed Fate. It will probably be out late May, early June. Fan me if you want notifications of new stories.

Mikko POV

I was growing nervous. Emily was due any second. The anxiousness of the pack was overwhelming. Had they known Emily was carrying multiples, there would be no controlling the pack.

I could sense my father coming well before he showed up. Even though he could contain his influence, the woodland creatures knew when danger was nearby. The scurries and chirps stopped. Even the wind seemed to die down when Finn was near.

I stayed on the porch, waiting. I didn't want to risk waking Emily. She didn't sleep well enough anymore.

The gray wolf that was Finn stepped through the tree line and came towards my home. He was completely silent. If I hadn't known he was coming, I might have been surprised.

"Guest room." I got up and held the door open for him. "Emily's sleeping."

He bobbed his head once before heading to the guest room. The door quietly clicked shut.

I didn't want him here. There was tension between the two of us, most of which we never dealt well with.

I went to the living room and chose a chair by the wall. I wasn't trusting enough to give my back to Finn post-wolf. It was no more than ten minutes later did he join me.

"They're coming soon," the golden eyed Finn said as he sat down in the chair across from me.

"I am aware."

"Is everything prepared? Aubrina says they may be coming today." His powerful psychic wasn't usually wrong in her predictions.

I couldn't help but smirk at the man. "For someone who hates psychics, you've grown attached to this one."

"For someone who fears loss of loved ones, you've outdone yourself," he shot back. The game was over.

"Was I supposed to kill her so the children could not gestate?"

Finn smirked. "I was mildly surprised that you didn't."

"You knew I couldn't. You knew the damage from Jess and still you sent me at Emily. You wanted me to be hooked right in because she looks like Jess."

"I was hoping to get my son out of the hole he's been living in since Jess's passing. She wouldn't want you to be like this."

I was angry. How could I not be?

"How I live my life is of no consequence to you."

"You're fraying Mikko. You need to get over this or you're going to lose it."

I felt the anger grow once again. "I'm under control. Forcing me onto Emily is part of your schemes. You wanted this to happen."

I pushed myself of the chair and started to pace. "Jess was a powerful witch, and yet she still succumbed to the change. She couldn't protect herself, though she tried. Emily is human. She's fragile just being that."

"Jess trusted the wrong person and paid the price for it. We all warned her about Clare, she just wouldn't hear it. Jess was a very smart girl, she just made a bad decision. No one thought you'd fall in love with Jess, there's no reason to try to have a relationship with the mother of your children."

"Emily's not Jess."

"Emily's different, she's not going to make the same mistakes."

"I'm not going to let her make the same mistakes Jess made. Until the kids are eighteen, I'm not letting her do anything." I could feel my anger and irritation at Finn growing. If he wasn't careful, this would end ugly.

"You can't control her Mikko; she is not your possession," he chastised. I was too old to let that tone bother me.

"No." I growled. "I know what you want. You want me to fall in love with the little chit and get a mate out of the deal."

"She's the mother of your first children Mikko," Finn was exasperated.

"I'll never love her." I couldn't love anyone like I loved Jess. It was too dangerous. "I'll appreciate her as the mother of my children. I'll take care of her and protect her, but not love her. She's too young and too naive."

"And what's your plan going to be when she falls in love with you?"

With the damage between us, I doubted there would ever be relationship between the two of us. It just wasn't in the cards anymore. It was unfortunate, but that's how it was.

"I'm a good actor. I'll just fuck her to keep her content for the next twenty years," I bit off quickly. I was finished with this conversation.

"She'll see through your act." Finn warned.

"She didn't see through it when I knocked her up." I couldn't help but let out a laugh at the ridiculousness of this entire situation. "Your plan had unexpected consequences."

The couch Emily was on groaned as she moved. We both exchanged a look before going over to her. It felt like we were approaching a freed tiger, bent on revenge, than a pregnant woman trying to get off the couch.

Emily was on the edge of the couch, sitting up as straight as she could and kept rubbing her hand up down her swollen stomach. Her eyes were closed as she hissed on an exhale.

Her eyes narrowed on Finn, earning a smile back from him. She hadn't seen him for a while; he must've said something to attract her fury.

Better him than us, I couldn't help but agree with that.

"I'm late for my appointment." She went to stand when Finn tried to help her up, but she rejected his helping hand.

She was definitely mad.

We followed Emily to the bathroom. I rolled my eyes when the door shut. I didn't want to follow her around like a pup, but I had no choice. She was too close to delivery and too likely to fall from her imbalance.

We exchanged narrowed glances as we waited for the pregnant woman to do what she needed to do.

There was a dribbling sound just before something splashed on the ground. I couldn't help but thing she missed. It wouldn't have been the first time.

But then she screamed, "My water broke!"

Her scared tone had me on alert. Did that mean they were coming any second? Jared couldn’t get here that quickly.

I had my hand on the handle, ready to break open the door when she finally spoke again.

"Someone get me a change of clothes." She said through the door before the water started running.

Finn jerked his head towards the room, a silent order. I went to her bedroom and grabbed the nearest thing to me.

I didn't wait for her to give me permission to go into the bathroom. The steam from the shower filled up the small bathroom, escaping as the door opened.

Her arms were cradled around her stomach. The smoked glass only showed a silhouette, but you didn't need to have supervision to see what she was doing.

"You need to get to the infirmary." I was as calm as I could be under circumstances. She was going to give birth to two children today. It would be infinitely harder to keep them both a secret for long.

She took a deep breath and nodded. "I know, I just need a minute."

There was fluid on the ground, covered by the clothes that she had been wearing. The room smelled different since her water had broken.

"They're coming Emily." I was worried, even if she wasn't.

She narrowed her eyes on mine. "Get out!"

"You can't-"

"Get out!" Her raised voice held no room for negotiation. Anything I would say would only add to the fire, so I kept my mouth shut. "I have more experience in this area. You've never been around the birthing process. I worked in this area! Now, get out!"

I put the clothes down and left.

The water stopped five minutes later. She came out of the bathroom looking relaxed.

"I need to call my dad and Nikki."

"You shouldn't be worried about them right now." I did my best not to get yelled at again. I didn't want her to lose the relaxed state she was in.

"I have time and the calls will be short." She took her phone from Finn when he held it out for her.

"Thanks." Her voice was clipped. She really wasn't happy with him.

Her father was quick to pick up the ringing phone. “Hello.”

“Hey dad.”

“Hey baby. What are you doing?”

“Getting ready to get these babies out of me.”

“Already?”

“Yeah.”

“I’ll be there as soon as I can. I’m getting in the car. I love you.” Then he hung up in a rush , leaving Emily with a small smile.

She called Nikki next.

“Yo.” Mike’s voice greeted.

“Hey, where’s Nikki?”

“Hey girly,” she said. “You’re on speaker.”

“You better be ready to get your butt over here.”

“The babies coming?”

“Yep.”

She squealed loud enough to make me wince. “Is your dad already on his way?”

“Yeah.”

“Oh, yeah, he just pulled up. I’ll see you soon. Love ya!”

Then she hung up on Emily too, but her smiled said she wasn't mad.

“Well, they’ll be here in a few hours.” Growing up with wolves, she would know that we could hear what she said.

Once Emily was in the car, I drove to Finn's house in record time. I kept my business face on, but we knew when her first contraction hit. Her heart rate spiked and her breathing became labored. As she breathed out slowly, she sound quivered with her pain. I pressed down on the accelerator to get us there.

---

Jared was alerted through pack bonds. He was at the infirmary, gathering supplies for the surgery he was about to perform.

He smiled at Emily as she walked in. She was stiff from the second contraction she had in the car seconds before we arrived. "You can change into the gown and I'll get you medicated so we can get those babies out of you."

Everyone else left the room as she unfolded the gown that he had given her.

She stared at me for a second, but I shook my head. I wasn't going to be leaving her alone while she was in here. What if she fell? There would've been no one there to catch her.

Emily paled when another contraction hit her again. She tried to breath in and out like she had learned, but it didn’t seem to be helping much. Her contractions seemed to be getting stronger. When Jared came back into the room and washed up, Emily slumped to the side, ready for some relief.

"Breathe."I couldn't help but chuckle, I was too nervous to keep still.

…which earned me a glare from the woman in pain. "You're not the one about to be cut open."

I smiled. "You're going to be alright. Nothing bad is going to happen."

"And if something bad happens, I'll just die."

I looked over at Jared, who shrugged at my silent question. "If the worst scenario happens, you'll be loaded with my blood."

She shook her head and paled more. "That doesn't make me feel better. I'll either change or die."

I shrugged and stood in front of her. "Nothing bad is going to happen."

Jared stood on the other side of the bed. "It's time to dose you up."

She turned towards me and leaned forward, resting her head on my chest. Her hands gripped the bottom of my shirt, bunching it in her grasp. I knew she needed to be still for this. I ran my hands down her arms. It gave me better access to her back. If I had to, I could hold her still. Jared had the line in her back quickly.

She backed away from me and sat up straight for a while before her pulse rate dropped and her breathing evened out again. The medication was working. Jared kept busy by hooking her up to an IV, it was access for my blood.

"Now for the main event," Jared said excitedly as she leaned back and rested on the table. "See you in a bit." He raised the surgical blanket so she couldn't see what was happening.

I stayed by her, even though she tried to hide it, I could smell her fear. I kept my eyes around the blanket wall, watching as Jared sliced into her stomach. I glanced at her to see her eyes were closed. She wasn't in pain, just scared. I didn't like it, but this was how it had to be.

They used tools to pull apart her skin to gain access to the children. She winced, but didn't show any signs of pain.

"Alright." Jared's voice was muffled from the mask he had on. "Lots of pressure."

Her hand tightened against mine as I stood up. I kept my hand connected with hers. She winced as Jared stuck his hands onto her stomach and started pulling out a bloody mass. It wasn't until it was nearly out that I recognized it as a child!

"We have a girl!" Jared said happily.

I kept my eyes on the small child as Jared handed her to the nurse and set about cutting her umbilical cord.

The nurse smiled at me before coming closer, forcing me to back up, and showing Emily her daughter. The showing didn’t last long before the nurse walked off with the child to an incubator.

Emily kept her eyes on the child in the incubator as Jared started to work for the boy.

"Lots of pressure again." He stuck his hands into her stomach again, pulling out another messy baby. Emily didn't wince with the pressure this time. I couldn't tell if I was because she wasn't so full anymore, or because she kept her eyes on her daughter.

The boy's cry boomed when his skin was exposed to the colder air.. "And we have a baby boy."

The second woman helping out took the second baby and repeated the process with him.

Both of the children screamed wildly as they were checked out by the two women. It was worrisome.

"No one's hurting your children Mikko." Jared said quietly enough that only we could hear. "Go check out your children. Emily's fine here with me." I bent down and kissed Emily's hand once before going to check out the babies.

Everything was going fine until I heard Jared curse. It wasn't often that he was caught doing so, making it instantly alarming. It didn't register with Emily until I was already walking towards Jared to see what was happening.

"You're going to feel more pressure Emily," Jared warned as he stuck his hands into her stomach again.

Emily's fear was palpable in the room. Something was really wrong. When Jared pulled out another bloodied mass, I could barely think.

It was another baby. Jared wasted no time cutting the cord and getting the baby to the incubation table, where they worked on the small child, sticking a tube in its mouth and suctioning up gunk.

The nurse handed me the first girl to empty the incubation table for the newest baby, then turned back to help Jared.

"What's happening?" Emily's fearful voice asked.

I couldn't keep it from her. I was too far gone. "There's a third one."

Her jaw dropped. "A third? As in triplets?"

I felt numb. This wasn't expected. Two had been overwhelming, but three was unthinkable.

I looked down at the little girl in my arms as she tried to look around. Her eyes were covered with an ointment, but she was trying.

When I looked at Emily, she looked sick so I started towards her, but her eyes rolled up as she passed out.

She nurse helping Jared with the unknown baby looked at Emily for a moment before turning back to help. No machines were buzzing or whining about something being wrong. Emily was just unconscious.

I forced myself closer to her and looked at the mess her once pregnant stomach was now. There were layers of tissue and blood all over the place.

How was it all supposed to fit back into place?

Cries from the baby in my arms brought me back to the task at hand.

Was she dying? I couldn't raise three children alone. They needed their mother. She was the only woman who could ever be fully trusted with my children.

Holding the baby with one arm, I went to the fridge. A bag of my blood was on reserve for her. I took it out and went back to Emily. She had more reason to make it through a change than Jess did, I assured myself as I hung the bag of blood next to the other bags that flowed into her.

"Mikko stop," Jared ineffectively ordered me. It was enough to hear him to cause me pause. He knew he couldn't order me around. "Emily's fine. She's just surprised. She's not in danger of dying, but if you give her that bag, she will be." He didn't say anything else as he went to work repair the damage done.

"You can come see your second daughter, Mikko," a woman's voice called. The nurse was putting a diaper on the small child.

I left the bag of blood hanging, unattached to Emily, and went to the incubator.

"Studies suggest that when twins are together, they have a better survival rating."

The baby in the incubator was smaller than the one in my arms. I nodded for the woman to take the child.

The nurse unwrapped the blanket from around the child and placed her next to the smallest of the three, who fractionally relaxed.

"Put the boy with them."

She nodded and repeated the process so the smallest was surrounded by her two siblings. The nurse smiled as she looked at them.

"Emily did a great job carrying them for so long." Her voice was almost dreamy as she stared at the three babies. "You should tell her so. Mommy's going to need a lot of care and support. Triplets are an overwhelming task to raise alone."

I don't need advice from this woman. "I assume you know who I am."

The woman glared up at me. "Everyone knows who you are, just as everyone knows the hell you out that girl through. You should be kissing her feet for the deed she just did for you."

I didn't blink as I stared at the woman, and I had to give her credit for lasting ten seconds before turning to help Jared.

Jared was wiping off Emily's raw stomach from excess blood. She was going to be in a lot of pain when she awoke.

The two medical staff took every surgical tool, counting as they did. As they took everything away, I covered Emily with the small blanket and took off the hair net.

"When will she awaken?" I asked when Jared came back in.

"When she's ready to," he said simply.

"And she's perfectly fine?"

Jared patted my shoulder twice before turning to the children. "Yes, she is in perfect health, save for the wound across her stomach."

I kept an eye on him as he inspected my children. When he was done, he left them as he found them.

I knew there was a lot to make up for once this all was done, but until Marshall was dead and gone, these children would always be in danger.

The triplets huddled together perfectly. There would be no losing any of these children. They were going to be protected from anything that came for them.
