Chapter 47- Isolation
Third person POV
It has been three whole days ever since the incident of the unknown intruders. Three days ever since Akuma went on a psychotic murder rampage. Three days ever since Akuma isolated herself from everyone.
No matter how much the gang or Ryu tried talking to the girl through a single door, she wouldn't listen. She'd yell or ignore them to leave her alone.
After all, Akuma is shameful of her existence. She hates herself. She absolutely despises everything that makes up who she is. A demon that only knows how to kill. Akuma feels as if she isn't needed in the world if her role is to only rage and murder. She's only be killing not only evil, but innocent lives with this needed bloodlust of hers.
"You're a monster.... You're a demon... You shouldn't be surrounded by people... You'll kill them... You shouldn't have emotions... You're a demon... You just kill..." Akuma muttered to herself. She sat in her bed in the dark room that lacked any form of light. Missing light from the windows, balcony doors, and even from her soul and heart.
(She is talking in second person because she is talking to herself. It's like talking down on someone, but that someone is herself.)
"Why are you still living in this world....? You should be down there in hell.......... Kiroyuki should be in the living world instead.... You'd be better off suffering down there......." Tears raced down her face once again— This being the tenth time Akuma has cried today and it is barely eleven o'clock in the morning.
"How'd they even get to the living world without being summoned..... Did you summon them by accident... Why is their goal to get you... They can just fight back and sacrifice her..." Akuma's eyes began to strain with hatred, muscles tightening. Again, without knowing, her bloodlust began to leak out into the atmosphere.
"Ah!" She finally realized the pressure and tension in the air, hurt by it. She immediately tried calming down, tears running down the track faster.
"S-stop it.... Stop it!" Her voice cracked as she continued to talk to herself.
"..." Outside her door, there sat a young boy. A boy whose eyes shined like a magical pond of a hidden forest— Ryu.
".... This is why you can never be loved.... Why Father and Mother threw you away into hell...." She sobbed and sobbed, voice cracking here and there, hyperventilating.
'But... There are people who loves you...' Ryu thought solemnly.
Ryu has been sitting by Akuma's door whenever he had free time, hoping that one day, she'd come out. Hoping that he wouldn't stop hearing her wanting to die, that she isn't loved, that she hates herself, that she's a demon, and basically anything that'd make her want to commit suicide. He's scared of losing her just like how he lost Kiroyuki to her tragic disappearance.
"Oh- Hey squirt! How long have you been sitting there now?" Obi asked, walking towards Ryu.
But, Obi's walk towards the "VIP" rooms were no coincidence. It was rather filled with a lot of purpose.
"... Oh, hi Obi. Maybe for two hours?" Ryu questioned, not keeping track of the time.
"Ya know, I never asked you, but how come you never get bored sitting there hot hours?" Obi asked, picking up on the cries coming from behind the door.
'I see... She still isn't able to calm down.' Obi thought.
"Well, I have a couple of books." Ryu answered, picking up a book about herbs in the snowy climate.
"... You think I should take you with me to barge into Akuma's balcony?" Obi asked.
"Umm, I'd rather not. She might be too shocked by that and kick us out of her room and back out the balcony. I don't want to break my legs too." Ryu commented, making Obi chuckled nervously.
'Huh? Did she stop crying?' Obi thought, suddenly hearing the room go silent.
"Hey Ryu, what do you think of Akuma?" Obi randomly blurted out, eyes curious. But within, he held a smirk as his voice boomed loudly.
"E-eh?! Well... I think she's a c-cute girl. She gets fl-flustered and embarrassed easily, but she kinda looks c-cute like that because she blushes every time that happens... She's so strong that I admire her strength! I'm surprised that she even w-wanted to train me, but I feel h-honored! I think pink and red suits her— Pink of passion and love and red of how she changes fate in a good way. I think... I think Akuma is just too amazing to explain- Gah! Obi! Why'd you make me say all of that!" Ryu shouted, realizing how much he had said about a girl of his fancies, embarrassed.
"What do you hope for Akuma right now?" Obi questioned softly yet loud enough.
"I.... I hope that she would feel better... That she would c-come out of isolation and talk, laugh, scold and lecture others, and smile again.... Obi!" Ryu suddenly shouted, realizing that he again is saying such romantic words of meaning.
"Haha! And how much do you love Akuma?" Obi raised his voice louder.
"H-hey! Stop asking these types questions!" Ryu hid half of his face with his sweater, face bright pink like Akuma's hair.
"Just answer the question Ryu~!" Obi chuckled.
".... I r-r-r-really.... I really lo-love her!" Ryu's face reddened more, going beyond many shades of colors.
"Ahahahaha!" Obi practically had tears flying out of his eyes like a rocket, laughing.
"S-s-stop laughing!"
"...... Love...?" Akuma muttered silently, barely audible.
"Oh! Ryu! Garak wants us both to help harvest some herbs in the garden!" Shirayuki suddenly said, jogging carefully with a clipboard in hand with Zen walking behind her. She knew that this place was the first location to find Ryu knowing that he is worried for Akuma's current state.
"Oh, I almost forgot..." Ryu muttered to himself.
"!" Zen looked to his left, seeing the door to Akuma's room, worried.
"Well, I guess we'll be going then." Ryu said, saying goodbye to Zen and Obi.
"... Obi... Did you say anything unreasonable?" Zen asked, voice stern.
"Hm? No no. I just had Ryu talk about his feelings." The said male exclaimed, raising his hands up in surrender of proving his innocence.
"Fine. I have a meeting to get to, so make sure not to do anything stupid." Zen sighed, walking away.
"Of course not master!" Obi scoffed playfully, chuckling that slowly ceased.
"... You hear that Akuma? There are people who care for you. Ryu cares for you the most. He wants for you to stop hating yourself... You should join us for dinner. Everyone is meeting at the tower top for a picnic dinner. See you then." Obi smirked, walking away from the door, confident that Akuma heard him.
"... Hmph... Sly cat..." Akuma breathed out, unsteadily standing up.
"Maybe.... Maybe I.... I should attend that dinner...." Akuma whispered, smiling ever so slightly.
"Let's shine some light in here." Akuma ran to the balcony door and windows, opening up the curtains to reveal the stage— The outside world.
"GAH! The damn light! It hurts!" Akuma screamed, shielding her eyes, regretting the quick actions.
She slowly recovered her blurring and burning eyesight, seeing the beautiful blue sky and cloud mixing together to make a harmonious scene with the sun.
"Now... I th-think I should t-talk to R-R-Ryu now! Wait no! Wouldn't Obi want me to surprise everyone?! It seemed like he did from the tone of his voice! W-what should I do?!" Akuma slapped her cheeks, feeling extremely self conscious of her girlish actions.
"... Maybe Obi wouldn't mind as long as I stop isolating myself... I r-really...just want to see Ryu...." Akuma whispered, staring at the sky with eyes of sincere hope.
—————
"Woah! I can't believe we've harvested this much already!" Shirayuki exclaimed, looking at the two large baskets, filled with herbs.
"RRYYUUU!" A female voice yelled, surprising Obi, Shirayuki, and Ryu.
"Hm? I guess she decided to come out earlier than I expected." Obi chuckled.
"Hey Ryu, Obi and I are going to deliver these herbs to the workroom. Go ahead and take your time here." Shirayuki smiled, taking a basket in hand with Obi lending a hand or two.
The three stared at Akuma, running. Obi and Shirayuki smiled, walking ahead, letting Akuma pass by them with a 'thank you' look on her face.
"RYYU! I-I'M SO SORRY!"
"E-eh??!" Ryu exclaimed, face going red.
The girl who ran and ran, eyes filled with tears, showed expression among her actions. Her long and luscious pink hair, gorgeous like a goddess, running to a simple boy.
Butttt....
*Thud*
"Ow... !!!" Ryu instantly blushed furiously like coal burning in a furnace. His chest felt a sensation on him and he knew that it was Akuma's chest. Let's just say that, Akuma has a big bust. After all, ever since her pink hair came back, her original body shape had also returned. Meaning, her original state while gone from her body was always someone who was taller and more curvy than her replacement of a soul.
Akuma had lunged at Ryu, leaping at him without hesitation or warning. With the shock and lag of time to react properly, they had both fallen with Akuma's strong impact.
"I'm s-sorry Ryu! I'm sorry! I'm so stupid!" Akuma cried, eyes wide due the blurring of beautiful tears.
"W-what are you talking about?" Ryu asked, confused. He was still taking in the shock of randomly seeing Akuma and her jumping at him without notice.
"I-I heard your co-conversation with Obi! I'm sorry! I never t-took anyone's feelings or e-even your fe-feelings into consideration! I'm so selfish! I'm so bitter...! I'm so sorry!" Akuma wiped away her tears quickly, able to see Ryu's face more clearly for a quick second before the tears came again.
"Huh? W-wait! Don't cry!" Ryu exclaimed, panicking. He quickly wiped away Akuma's tears with his sleeve, embarrassed that Akuma heard his confessions.
"I'm sorry... I can't stop crying..." Akuma muttered, audible enough for Ryu to understand and hear.
"You don't have to apologize... I'm just relieved that you're here right now— Safe. It's alright to cry so that you won't have a burden on your shoulders in the long run. Just, next time, don't shut out people who wants to help you, okay?" Ryu said, face calm and slightly expressionless aside from relief and hidden joy.
"Idiot! Idiot! Idiot!" Was all Akuma said, burying her face into Ryu's chest.
Little did they know that Obi had already came back, taking note of the adorable scene in hiding of a branch or two. After all, they'll "thank" him for keeping record of their love story.
"How can you keep such calm face?! Idiot!" Akuma mumbled into Ryu's shirt.
"E-eh?! I-I'm actually really nervous!" The boy's face reddened more, heated.
"... Thank you Ryu... For caring about me..." Akuma said, face extremely red and hot. Lucky for her, her face was covered and unseen since it was hidden with a cloth— Ryu's sweater.
*Ba-bump*
Akuma could hear Ryu's heartbeat. His heart beating rapidly. Akuma smiled, knowing that Ryu was telling the truth— Happy to know of this emotion.
Ryu too, felt Akuma's vibrant warmth. The warmth of her hiding face on his chest made his heart warmer and warmer.
Ever since Kiroyuki left and having trouble getting closer to Akuma, Ryu has been slowly reverting back to the reserved, silent, and lack-of-emotion-expressed type of boy. He felt, like he was back to his original self with a few tweaks of joy implanted into his heart. Like, he was able to return to his old self while being able to feel joyous emotions of love. What love truly is.
"Ah! S-s-sorry Ryu! I-I must be heavy! I'm sorry for sitting on you-!!!" Akuma blushed furiously, self conscious and realizing how wrong her wording sounded if some pervert were around. Plus, she had just realized that she was pushing her chest onto Ryu for quite some time.
"Eh? You're not heavy at all." Ryu commented, not understanding the other reason.
"Tch! You'd better not think of me as a pervert damn it!!" Akuma shouted, bolting up. She crossed her arms, chin held high to the sky.
"Why should I?" Ryu asked, thinking hard.
"J-just don't think of anything about it! Idiot!" Akuma yelled, flustered.
"Um, okay! Will you also be g-going to the picnic dinner?" Ryu asked, hiding part of his face with his sweater.
"Of course! I wouldn't miss it!" Akuma pouted. "S-so, do you need h-help with w-work?" Akuma faced her back towards Ryu, too shy to face Ryu with her face of fire.
"Huh?"
"Like! What herbs are you collecting?! I disturbed your time working, so it's my duty to help ya know!" Akuma practically shouted, causing Obi to hold in his laughter of how serious yet awkward the girl is.
"Oh... Well, we're collecting bee balms. They look like this." Ryu said, picking out a purple like flower whose petals all dispersed like an explosion.
"Fireworks... The petals look like a firework!" Akuma exclaimed. "What are a bee balm's use?"
"It helps with colds, flu symptoms, inflammation, and many more. It's a very useful herb. It come in preparations such as infused honey, culinary spice, infused vinegar, and more."
"Awesome..." Akuma whispered.
Immediately, Akuma rolled up her sleeves, sitting down onto the ground. Ryu showed her how to harvest the bee balms, determination plastered onto Akuma's face.
"Herb or flower... They're fragile beings with many beneficial uses in life... This is good practice for me to be more gentle and patient!" Akuma giggled, smiling unintentionally.
"...!" Ryu's mouth opened, slightly taken aback by the sincere smile. His cheeks, dusted with pink, nodded his head.
'I see... So this is Akuma's charm... Determination of a fire. Her bashfulness. Her tough act. Her strength. Her rare smile. They all make me like her even more know.'
—————
"I failed to escape.... I failed... I failed! What will happen now?! How much pain and torture?! I'm scared! Why?! Why do I have to be tortured again?! In both living and dead— WHY MUST I BE USED ONLY FOR THE DELIGHT OF EVIL?!" In a hollow and large cell, there chained up was a girl with turquoise hair.
"Why must I be the sacrifice for everything...
...? Used and betrayed by Neil, tortured by him and my troops, the devil coming into the living, the original soul awakening.... I was a sacrifice for my soul's awakening..." Tears trickled down the pale yet dirtied cheeks that were previously stained with salty tears.
"Now... I'll soon become a sacrifice again... WHY?! I'VE NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG! LET ME GO...! I never did anything wrong......."
The girl cried and cried and cried, over and over and over. Nonstop, her screams and shouts never reached anyone reasonable. The only person who heard her screams of agony were herself in the empty and dark place.
Kiroyuki was alone.
