Chapter 2 - Learning about Clarines
Kiroyuki's POV
My eyes slowly fluttered open to the dimly lit room. I yawned and stretched my arms, looking past the small opening of the curtains that covered my balcony door.
The sun was brightly lit, but it was still chilly looking outside. My evidence for that is because of the eternal snow outside in every direction.
'I guess the sun doesn't affect the North here...' I flopped back onto my back, staring at the drapes that were tied to each column of each corner of the bed.
I let out a sigh and began rolling around my bed until I accidentally rolled a bit too far off the bed. I sloppily embraced myself for the impact of the ground.
'Ow...' I slowly got up and looked at the clock on my nightstand.
'9:48 AM...'
"Oh yeah... The First Prince didn't arrive last night due to a delay..." Kiroyuki rubbed her eyes, remembering the news her Father had informed her last night.
"Princess... Please excuse the intrusion." I walked closer to the door as my ladies-in-waiting bowed at a proper ninety-degree angle.
"Ah! Good morning! Is miss Nani busy right now?"
"Good morning princess. Miss Nani is currently attending to her daily duties."
"Oh, right...! Do you know when the First Prince of Clarines would arrive?"
"We were told that his majesty of Clarines would arrive around noon, princess."
"Thank you." They gestured me to my pure white vanity that was lined with a light cloudy blue color with twisted gold trimmings to top off the look of a furniture that decorated a royal's room.
One of the ladies-in-waiting walked over to my wardrobe and began to choose an appropriate outfit for today while the other two were with me, admiring my hair like always and how I was growing up so fast.
"Oh my princess, you've grown so much! I remember when you were just a small child!"
"My word! Your hair just keeps getting longer and longer! There is no end to such beautiful hair."
I giggled softly and listen to them talk while enjoying their company altogether.
"Funny... Hyoushou resides in the North cold, filled with never ending snow and ice, yet not a single citizen here has snow-like hair like me!"
"... Why of course! You are special princess! It would mean nothing if citizens had such gorgeous hair!"
"Hm. I guess so." I shrugged my shoulders slightly.
Then the lady-in-waiting that chose my outfit placed the undergarments into one of the other ladies' hand as the other held my accessories for my dress. The first lady-in-waiting gently placed on my undergarments as she slightly tighten the strings of my corset for sharpening my petite figure. The second helped slip on the dress for me and straightened any dents in my skirt. The third placed a fancy thin coat that was designed for indoors and tied the thin and silky soft string together.
They sat me down besides the vanity once more as they combed my silky hair while smiling...sadly? I frowned and stared into the mirror to analyze their reflections for a few more moments.
"Is everything alright?" They slightly jumped as if they had been awoken by a bell and quickly nodded their heads.
"We're just nervous of his highness visit from Clarines..." I only hummed in response as they tied my hair into symmetrical twin tails with white ribbons. They decided to not apply makeup on me because my face was already natural enough. They all bowed once more as a farewell and left my room.
'I wonder how today would go. Will I have to sing for Prince Izana at the ball for his visit and for Mother's birthday? I guess I don't mind since he's a trusted ally... This outfit is actually really soft and comfortable... I like it!' I grinned to myself as I slipped on a pair of white low heels with a silver lining that shimmered within every movement.
I skipped over to my full sized mirror and twirled around, admiring this really cute outfit that the ladies-in-waiting had chosen for me.
"I should go find Father and Mother. Maybe Miss Nani would be with them..." I lightly jogged over to the door and opened it. I looked both in the directions of left and right.
'Hmm... Looks like my favorite guard buddies aren't stationed at the end of the hall... Maybe on another shift?' I closed my door shut and walked down the hallways toward the dining room, greeting the staff and soldiers along the way.
I soon reached the dining hall and entered, the bright lights flushing through the opened door. From a distance, I saw my parents laughing cheerfully with Miss Nani standing beside them.
"Father, Mother! Miss Nani!" I hurriedly yet gracefully speed walked towards the three and smiled brightly, which they too reflected back. Just not as enthusiastic as mines since they are more "poised" and calm than my outrageous energy. I hugged my parents and then Miss Nani.
"Good morning Kiroyuki dear." My parents both said in unison.
"Good morning! The snow looks so fluffy this day and it looks like I could sink right through it! It was so sparkly with the sun gleaming on it!" I started twirling my hair around with my index finger, my parents chuckling along my sort story while Miss Nani smiled warmly.
"That's lovely dear. I also hope that your appetite suitable. Your Mother and I would like to talk about Prince Izana's visit."
I took a seat opposite from my Mother as my Father told a maid to inform the chef to make a plate for me.
"Thank you." Kiroyuki directed that to both her Father and the maid. "Would I also be singing during the party for Mother's birthday and perhaps even for Prince Izana's visit...?"
"Yes, would you not like too?" My Father's and Mother's eyes showed a hint of sorrow while Miss Nani was just plainly staring at me. I began to ever so slightly panic.
"N-no, I would love too! I was just curious, that's all!"
"Oh! I was frightened if so! I thought that my daughter wouldn't want to sing on my birthday!" My Mother giggled while sighing in relief.
The maid from before came and set down a plate in front of me. It was filled with a delicious aroma that made me even more hungry just by looking at it. I picked up my fork and stabbed it into a muffin top biscuit with warm and soft eggs over it.
"Father, when Prince Izana arrives... Do you think I could have some private time with him?" My parents both gave me odd expressions while Miss Nani was staring at me in a speechless and angry way as if she were about to punch someone. I sweat dropped and thought of how I should explain myself.
"I want to know what the other 'world' is like... I'm curious and I want to know more about how to rule a kingdom in someone else's view so that I could use that in the future..."
They both sighed in relief once more. Miss Nani looked like she couldn't bring herself to handle this conversation anymore. Still, I continued eating my breakfast with the thought of all the fun things that I could do.
'I could play in the snow, practice my swordsmanship, or anything basically! I really do wonder if Prince Izana can be like a big brother to me... But that's too much to ask for.' I sigh in disappointment, my parents looking up to me.
"Is everything alright Kiroyuki? What seems to be the problem?" I shook my head but hesitated. I nodded my head shyly, contradicting my previous action.
"W-well I was actually hoping for Prince Izana to be like an older brother but that's too much to ask to have a brother. Especially since he's crown prince to Clarines and we are practically strangers..." They gave a sympathetic look which made me panic again.
"N-no, I didn't mean it like that! I didn't mean that seriously that I- um not disappointed! I think.... Ermm...." I mentally slapped myself for losing my grace and elegance.
"It's okay Kiroyuki. I understand that you get lonely when we're busy, but I am sure Izana would be delighted. Maybe you could even go with Izana back to Clarines for a visit. He has a younger brother too." My eyes lit up.
"R-really?! That must be lovely!" Kiroyuki exclaimed. "But could I really travel to Clarines with Prince Izana? I thought I am not allowed to leave Hyoushou because of...well, my abilities..." I frowned.
"... Well, I don't see any problem with Izana. His soldiers are plenty strong. This year of new recruitments seemed to also increase in terms of strength during the past year for them."
"Wow..." My mother giggled lightly at my awing face.
Then I shot up with a question that I yearned to know. "D-do they have rare plants in Clarines? Like really pretty flowers and herbs?! Is Clarines sunny and beautiful?!"
"Yes they do indeed. Clarines is also known due to their magnificent knowledge of medicine and herbs! Clarines is a very charming country. Is there anything else you would like to know about Clarines?" I nodded my head eagerly.
"Well then dear, you can ask Miss Nani in the mean time. Your Father and I have some more setting up for the next two hours before his arrival. Make sure you are to be with your Father and I before noon." I nodded my head as maids came and removed their plates from the table as they exited the dining hall. Miss Nani walked over to my side as I finished up the last bit of my breakfast.
"I am finished." She nodded her head and the same maid grabbed my plate and disappeared.
"Princess, I think you should finish your paperwork before noon. You didn't do any of it yesterday so I'm pretty sure it's stacked up. As your aide, I cannot allow your work to pile up."
I started sweating bullets, forgetting that I forgot that I pushed aside my paperwork a couple of times...
Well, maybe a over at least ten of times! Maybe!
"O-okay Miss Nani! Let's go to my office! Adventure~!" I pointed my finger in the air and gave a goofy grin and turned towards Miss Nani. She sweat dropped at my reaction that awaited for her to join my 'game'. She sighed yet shot up her hands in the air with a displeased look on her face.
"Adventure... Yay~....." I giggled as Miss Nani sarcastically made happy gestures of the adventure. She then glared at me and I started backing away as we made our way towards my office.
I knew that I would die working off the paperwork in an hour and a half.
'R.I.P me~....'
