Chapter 11 - Planning a Ball
Kiroyuki's POV
I had immediately begun planning for my own ball as Izana left me to do my work. Looking through the stacks of paper, I read the list of allies and important people of different countries and sighed as I no longer saw the names of my parents and myself, but did see some names of lords and ladies of my kingdom. I analyzed the rest of the guests and placed them to the side for later and opened a folder of the things I needed to check. There was stuff such as food, decorations, guests, music, and many more. It had been the first time I had taken full responsibility of planning a ball, but I guess this is an experience to help me furthermore into the future.
Deciding that I'll plan out the food courses, I thought of the meaning of the different dishes... Plus, food is awesome! 'Maybe I could ask Ryu or Shirayuki about some exotic herbs for spices for some combination with Clarines' special dishes...'
I wrote a letter of notice to the castles' chefs, asking them for a some of Clarines' traditional drinks, appetizer, main course, and dessert. Putting the letter to the side, I decided to hand that to Zen later when he comes by to check up on me. If I wanted to know what spices I'll want to add, then I'll need to know the types of dishes there are first so that I'll know which to match.
'Let's see... The ball will be held in about two weeks and three days from now... Okay! I can do this!' I humped in determination and pulled out the list of guests once more and decided to write letters to all of them. Yes all of them and not the publishers because it shows more sincerity to the kingdom and for safe measures.
I hauled a pile of letter paper from the right corner of the smooth desk top and plopped it onto my left so that I wouldn't have to reach over my future pile of finished letters. I picked up a sky blue feather pen and dipped it into some fancy jet black ink. I hesitated to write for a second to think out my thoughts and quickly looked at the first name of the country and guest... ' Tanbarun's first Prince... Prince Raji... I think that's the idiot Prince that Zen rambles about so much... But he did say that he had changed so I think I'm fine with this guest in my opinion... Pfft... I think Zen is jelly.... Idiot...'
Once my little laughter of Zen's jealously, I wrote out the letter with thought and heart as my hand glided gracefully yet quickly across the smooth paper.
------
Dear Prince Raji of Tanbarun,
I would like formally invite you to Clarines' upcoming ball in a month from now. Prince Izana would officially like to inform all allies and future allies to know about the new princess. I myself am the new princess and I would really appreciate it if you could come and see how Clarines may improve due to my new upcoming role. For you to know how this is true, Prince Izana himself would seal this letter with own royal seal to ensure the truth along with the announcement. As allies, I hope that your connection with Clarines would continue or improve with myself around. Safe travels and I hope that you could enjoy this upcoming ball.
Sincerely,
Clarines' new princess
------
I smiled triumphantly and lifted the letter as if it was the first invitation to be done.
"Yay! One down and.....about a hundred more..." I sighed and slammed my forehead onto the desk... Memories flooded into my head as I began remembering fond yet heartbreaking memories...yes they made me stronger...but it still hurts so much to not control fate to save loved ones...
--------
"Miss Nani! I'm so bored! I want to go play in the snow!"
"Princess... You only have to write one more paragraph. We could go play in the snow after you finish this."
I pouted and grumbled to myself as I picked up the pen once more.
"Princess, please stop pouting and mumbling or else I'll show no mercy to make you do the second half." I shrieked and frantically wrote at the speed of light and finished the last word. I tapped the pen onto the paper and jumped up from my seat.
"Done! Let's go play in the snow now!" I jumped up and down as she sighed and smiled warmly upon me as we both chatted and laughed down the halls...how I miss those days of warmth of sharing fond memories of the snow.....
"-yuki! Kiroyuki!" I snapped out of my daze and jolted up from my seat and almost fell back but someone from behind caught me before my fall. I looked up to see Obi and smiled as he returned the smile and I looked in front of me to see Zen. I smiled and got up back to my feet thanks to Obi and waved with a casual mood.
"Yo! So, what's up?" I dusted off any dents or dust off my dress and smiled as I decided to take this as a breather and opened the balcony doors to be greeted by a warm gust of air.
"Um, well I came to check on you but..." I turned to face Zen with a confused face and tilted my head in question.
"Well master and I have been trying to snap you out of your daze. Your eyes were dull and watery so we were worried... Did anything in particular happen?" I gave an 'o' face in realization and smiled sadly, but also a smile of thought.
"No... I was just recalling the past..." A few seconds of silence passed and I decided to break the silence.
"Anyways, can I ask you guys a couple of favors for the ball that I'm planning?"
"Sure miss! Nothing the great Obi and just Zen can do!" I giggled at the playful tone of Obi's and Zen growled like a dog as I walked over to the letter for the chef and grabbed a list of needed supplies and handed them over to the both.
"The letter is for the chef and make sure he replies back with a note and I'll see him afterwards. The list is for some more supplies that I need to write all of these invitations. I believe that I'll need some more of the thin-pressed white envelopes and some more of thick white-branched letter paper. I'd probably need about a stack of both. That would be all for now thank you."
"Wow, the young princess sure knows what she's doing." Obi stared at the list and smirked at me while Zen showed a grin of being proud. I smiled back to both males and seated myself back onto my seat.
"Well, I'd have to be prepared for the ball in about a month. Plus, Zen..."
"Yes Kiroyuki?" He gave me a questionable look as I blankly stared at him.
"So, I had already wrote a letter of invite to the idiot Prince that you've told me about. Are you just jelly that he might steal your love, Shirayuki away?" He bursts into a million shades of red like Shirayuki's hair and deepened the color while throwing his fists in the air.
"W-what?! I have no c-clue what you're talking about! I'm not jelly!" I giggled at his non-obvious reaction while Obi was dying on the ground while rolling like an excited puppy... But with a more loud and crazy howl. He was slapping his knee and cried waterfalls of laughter.
"Bwhahahahahhaha~! M-master! Your face was p-priceless! I can't believe the p-princess caught you like that!" I chuckled mischievously as Zen glared at Obi while it practically looked like he was going to chase Obi around the castle grounds. I came up to Zen's side making him jump while I decided to tease him a bit.
"So Zen~... Why are you so jelly about Raji? Is he more handsome than you? Do you think Shirayuki is too close with him?" His face was red from embarrassment as Obi was furiously writing into his creepy notebook of secrets while laughing like crazy with tears rushing down continuously.
"W-well? What about you and Ryu? Do you like him?!" He pointed his gloved index finger at me as I froze...he got me there...
"Oh~? The princess isn't responding? It's true?!" Obi's squeal and mischievousness could be seen from miles away as I turned my back onto them.
"S-shut up..." I felt them smirk behind my back as they suddenly approached behind me with their huge grins that symbolized that I was doomed...
"Oh~... Master it looks like the princess does have a crush!" Obi fake gasped as he giggled like a high pitched little girl.
"I agree Obi~... So tell us about your crush Kiroyuki..." I was cornered in a corner as I was at lost for words.
"W-wait! It's just that R-Ryu is the only boy that I h-have ever met that's m-my age! I'm just n-not used to it!" I mentally face palmed myself for acting such ways. My face was boiling hot and I felt myself getting really uneasy. Luckily they backed away and stopped their foolish teasing... 'Geez... Karma much...' (Author-San here is fangirling of Karma from assassination classroom....)
"Well we'll go do our parts now. Good luck Kiroyuki! If you need any help, don't refrain yourself from asking any of us for help." Zen opened the door as Obi was skipping like an weirdo and turned back to me once more.
"You could even ask for little Ryu!" I was taken by surprise and felt my face flush red. They had both left as I was engulfed in silence of the setting sun. I sighed and walked over to the balcony and felt refreshed as I inhaled the sweet and warm air. Smiling at the peaceful sound of the blowing wind and leaves, I glanced over to the herb garden in the distance and gasped as my face felt hot like fire. I saw Ryu crouching down next to the herbs while taking notes. Although the distance was far, I could still see clearly enough of the scenery. Sighing I walked back into the office and shut the doors. Smiling to myself I started to get back to work.
"Let's see... Who's next on the list..." I wrote away into the setting sun as I slowly felt fatigue take over me as my writing pace slowed down. I had already finished around fifty the past hours.
I soon felt too tired to keep my eyes lifted as the corners of my eyes darkened letting myself fall into a deep slumber.....along with a small smile of my own with the last thought of Ryu...
