Chapter 1 - One Last Cheerful Day
Hello thank you for reading this Ryu x OC and I hope that you enjoy! Now on to the story... >-<
--------------------------------
Kiroyuki's POV
I was practicing my archery skills as I awaited for Father to finish up his meeting and for Mother to finish her paperwork in her grand office.
I took a deep breath and pulled the string back steadily with my arms still as I elegantly let go of it.
The arrow swiftly pierced the wind that drifted past it with precision towards the target and hit bullseye.
"Yes!" I exclaimed loudly. "I am so awesome!"
'I have improve! This is a huge accomplishment! I should tell Father and Mother about this~!' I started dancing, but was stopped when my tutor and right hand lady walked towards me and my paused celebration party.
"Well done princess, you've improved quite quickly these past two weeks. Your aim and form was quite splendid."
My eyes sparkled as I tugged onto my tutor's sleeve like a puppy wanting to hear more praise.
"Y-you really think so, Miss Nani!? I can't wait to tell my parents! Do you also think I can improve my swordsmanship?! I really hope so~! Just imagine... I can help Father and Mother one day in the battlefield!" I sighed in thought of my hopeless dream knowing that there's no way that I would be able to fight on the frontlines because of my powers of being the heir.
"Princess... You know that they won't let you fight on the frontlines with them. Your mother was only once in battle because it was a huge war between two other countries. You should also know that others would hunt you for your powers; which is why they allowed you to train with weapons." I sighed and placed my bow and bag of arrows onto the bench and looked out the window. I smiled softly as it began to snow outside.
"Miss Nani! Can we go out and play in the snow! It's so pretty! I want to go~!" I tugged onto her sleeve, giving her the most irrestable puppy eyes ever! She tried diverting her eyes in another direction, but I kept on pleading with this useful ability of mines.
"F-fine..." My eyes lit up as I jumped around in joy and excitement.
"Thank you Miss Nani! I'm going to go change first~!" I zoomed out of the indoor training room before she could answer me back.
I ran down the halls of the castle and laughed with bewilderment. I jumped down to the ground floor of the star gazing room from the second floor and ran to the only door on the right. Running through the open halls, the breezy and chilly wind blew my snowy blue hair into many strands of string. I squealed happily as the cold brushed along my neck and continued to run until I was in front of my door to my chambers.
I hastily opened the door and shut it and ran to my wardrobe. Quickly, I grabbed a white cotton dress and threw it over my leggings. I took my grey coat and slipped on some dark blue boots. I grabbed some light grey gloves and fixed my pigtails. Twirling around, I smiled with glee and ran out of my room as the maids outside my door were startled and bowed.
"P-princess!" They exclaimed.
"Sorry! I'm just excited to go outside!" I quickly bowed to them as they bowed again while smiling gently at me. As if they had never felt this happy or relieved before.
I ran off once again, but came to a stop before I collided with someone.
"F-Father! Mother! Pardon my actions!" Blood started rushing up my face in embarrassment as I quickly pushed myself away from my Mother's stomach.
"Why are you in such a hurry Kiroyuki my child?" I looked up to my mother as she smiled tenderly at me. Her beautiful and long black hair swayed over her shoulder as her grey eyes gleamed at me, filled with adoration. My Mother is the most beautiful woman there is to rule!
I mirrored the smile back and giggled.
"Miss Nani and I are going outside to play in the snow! Oh! I also improved my archery skills! Even Miss Nani acknowledged me!" My parents giggled at my energetic response of a report as my father ruffled my hair.
"Well don't over exhausted yourself. A guest and trusted ally of ours is visiting tonight. I don't want you to be too exhausted to be absent during his presence."
"Okay! But... Who exactly is coming to visit?" I cocked my head to my left in a questioning manner.
"The First Prince of Clarines, Prince Izana. He has been allied with our kingdom for many years. He's perhaps the most trusted person I know, so I want you to be present to greet him."
I nodded my head in response and spoke up. "Father, Mother... Prince Izana sounds like a wise and worthy leader."
"Yes, he is indeed... Now you're going to make Miss Nani wait if you continue to stay here." I froze and bowed quickly to my parents and ran down the halls.
'Sorry miss Nani! I'm running as fast as I could~!'
Miss Nani's POV
"ACHOO!"
'I'm not catching a cold am I? I'm pretty warm though. Where is the princess? She's taking forever to change when she ran off with so much energy... The amount of energy she has is frightening in fact...!'
Kiroyuki's POV
'Ah! There's miss Nani!'
"Oi! Princess! What took you so long!" I instantly clinged onto her sleeve while apologizing over and over many times.
"Sorry miss Nani! I ran into Father and Mother and got caught up talking! Sorry! Please continue to teach me swordsmanship, archery, and my studies...!" I exclaimed. "Let's go outside and play in the snow now!" I changed the subject immediately.
'Miss Nani must of felt uncomfortable because she keeps awkwardly patting my head.'
"P-princess! It's okay! Let's just go outside to play in the snow...! Even though I'm too old to use the term 'play'... And I'll still train you, so please let go of me before you kill me!"
"Sorry!" I let go of miss Nani as she sighed. "Miss Nani isn't that old though. You're only twenty-seven! That's still pretty young~"
"It's still old to me. Let's just go outside..." She started walking ahead of me as I ran up to her to catch up, breaching the doors to the snow outside.
Miss Nani opened the door for me, my eyes gleaming at the beautiful sight. I ran out the door and jumped into piles of snow with a wide smile.
The cool wind brushed against my face as small and delicate snowflakes landed onto my face and coat. I twirled around the snowy land, laughing with delight.
'Although I see the snow everyday... It's still as beautiful as ever! I'll never get sick of seeing the snow!'
"Princess, I have a question... When you said that you got caught up talking with your parents, did his majesty tell you about a special guest?" I pulled my hand out, two snowflakes gracing my gloves.
"Yep! They said that the First Prince of Clarines is visiting and Father said for him to be his most trusted ally! I actually am excited to meet him! Maybe he can be like my big brother!" I blew the pair of snowflakes that were in my hand and into the snowy sky and giggled.
"Well I'm happy for you princess..." I turned around to look at Miss Nani and her sincere smile.
"Hey Miss Nani, we're also gonna have a ball to celebrate Mother's birthday too! I'm so unbelievably excited! That's also why Prince Izana is visiting isn't it?" I flopped onto another pile of snow and rolled around in the soft, fluffy, and pure white snow. The cold didn't bother me one bit.
"... Of course princess." Miss Nani answered as I hummed in response and started creating my own pile of snow.
"Miss Nani... Have you ever seen what a forest is like? I have only been in the huge indoor one that is used for training... It's not that I don't like it here but, I want to explore more of the world and the of beauty in nature and plants."
"Hmm... I actually have seen what a forest is like. I used to live in one with my family at the age of a four-year old. It was beautiful but my family decided to come back to our homeland when I turned nine because they decided to come back to serve the royal family, which is why I am here with you today. Although I can't handle the cold weather as perfectly as you, I honestly don't mind it here because I think it's lovely..." My eyes widened and I smiled genuinely with glee.
"What does a real forest look like Miss Nani?"
"Well its vast and full of the color green..."
"I already know that! The forest training grounds is enormous and green! What about the wildlife and exotic flowers?!" She chuckled nervously and crossed her arms, going into her thoughts.
"Well, the air's really clean and the wind is very relaxing and cooling. Wildlife there varies such as boars, rabbits, wolves, birds, deers, and many more. There are also streams, rivers, or lakes that shimmers in the sunlight and home to species of fish. The water is always so cool and refreshing! Forests alsoprovided a ton of herbs and flowers that wouldn't be able to grow up here in the North because of the cold and the fleets of snow and ice. So in general, the forest is a lovely place to reside at!"
"Woah... I wish I could go to a real forest...! But at the same time, I don't want to leave the snow despite me seeing it everyday! I think the winter life here is too beautiful! Just being out here relaxes my muscles... I guess from the way you described a forest is like how I love the snowy climate here. I wish I could travel the whole entire world!" I smiled and fell to my side, giggling.
"Princess... How exactly is it that you like never ever get cold out here....?" Miss Nani gave me a look of disbelief.
"I don't know~!" I heard Miss Nani sigh, making me giggle.
"Princess, I think we should head back inside. You have to rest up so that you would have enough energy to stay awake and meet his highness of Clarines."
"Okay... But do you think Prince Izana would like to play in the snow with me?!"
"Probably not."
"Poo~... No hesitation at all!"
"Lets just go and rest before tonight..."
"Okay Miss Nani~!" I grinned ear to ear as we walked back into the warm and comforting castle.
