Skipping school had it's consequences. After missing school, I walked around the halls, confused as I had missed the introductions and all that. I slowly made my way around the crowded number of students and kept my head down, skimming through the list of the number on the doors. I sighed heavily. If I hadn't missed out yesterday, than all would be easier for me to find.
"Yes!" I silently pumped my fist into the air, feeling victorious that I had finally managed to find the room.
The teacher, or in this case, drama teacher, was scribbling on the chalkboard, quite loudly with ashes falling after the pressure on the board. Loud chattering erupted from the classroom and I glanced around, looking for familiar faces. I noticed some from my classes last year but the other half seemed to be all new.
A student came around to everyone, passing out a slip or a sheet. He handed me it and I gave him a nod thanks. Once everyone got here, Mr.Bradley started explaining everything, tapping on the board with his long stick every once in a while too.
"A performance is coming up soon and I want everyone to be well prepared for this. As the details are still unclear, I will notify you as soon as the board is clear of this assignment," Mr. Bradley announced.
He gave us another brief overview and left us to talk for the rest of the period. I started grabbing my book out of my messenger bag and started reading. I usually wasn't the chattering type but I'd always put what I'd have to say in my expression.
Loud noise came from the door and I looked up too see a blonde figure surrounded by a bunch of guys. His face looked unfamiliar but something about him reeked of confidence. I scoffed silently, he seemed to be one of those guys who thought they were better than everyone else. His gang left after a loud exchange of high fives and he caught my eye and looked over. I didn't want to give into curiousity and stayed put, reading my book before his loud footsteps made way and sat right beside me.
Oh why did I have to be late and pick this seat? Ugh, Blake!
He threw his backpack on the ground with a loud thud and sat down lazily, his blonde hair just above his eyes. He looked around the room, every so often sending a wink to girls aound the room and they would swoon, putting their hands over their hearts like they do in cliché movies.
Even with his ego rising on the spot, I sort of felt like he was pretending in a weird way of sorts. Why was he here anyway? Did he come just to laugh at us when we were rehearsing or perhaps I don't know singing for a necessary role? I brushed my hair out of my eyes and swept my hair over to my left side. I silently huffed, a bit miffed that my mind had gone off topic and resorted to my book once again.
Girls were busy chattering in the corners, some about the guy in the room and the others about our grade's hotties. I didn't get why girls could be so hung up on a guy at times. I didn't know if I were saying that just because I didn't like anybody or if I truly believed it. Books make it easy for hopeless romantics to fall in love but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that it wasn't the way life worked.
A paper plane floated around, circulating in the air before landing right between the pages of my books. I snapped it shut quickly, miffed that someone had ruined my focus, just when my attention soon resumed.
I was walking near towards the trashcan, hopeful that I could get the problem resolved when a deep voice cleared his throat.
"Ahem, that's mine," said the voice behind me.
I whipped my neck and faced towards the sound of the direction where the voice was coming from and of course it was him. His eyes were light blue and filled with carefree...ness? If there were a way to describe it, then there was that. My eyes instantly darkened and I knew that somehow the idea of him had darkened my spirits.
"Next time, don't send it over my way," I said, thrusting it hard into his hands and accidently brushing his hands.
I walked back slowly to my chair and instantly opened my book.
Was I being too harsh?
I scolded myself for thinking about it. "You did what you had to, to get him off your back."
I dismissed the idea and before I knew it, the bell rung and I met the other girls outside the hall like usual.
My eyes drifted over to him, as other boys instantly crowded around him. One of the boys caught my eye and nudged him, whispering something in his ears that were probaby along the lines of "Dude, she's checking you out."
He sent me a wink and waved, and I rolled my eyes. Much to my dismay, the girls all shrieked and giggled.
"Omg! Jess, he was so cute! He totally likes you!"
I sighed in earnest. My friends always went down this road, every time a boy would even glance at me. They didn't think my love life was going smoothly, and with a boost they thought they could do it.
"I'm so in love with him," I said sarcastically as the girls all shrieked.
"You're in love with me, huh?" a deep voice said, a hint of amusement there. I slowly turned, cringing at what I had just said.
His face was reeking of confidence and that instance, I knew I hated him.
The easiest solution was to walk, walk away from this.
The girls linked their arms with mine and Nina, of course, was the one to break the silence.
"Wow, Jess, never seen you fired up like that."
I sent them a grin, that was so un-jess like. "Well you haven't seen the end of it and trust me, I think I won today."
The girls looked at each other in confusion. "Won what?"
I sighed, pitying them in the act, sarcastically. "You've got a lot to learn guys."
