Bloodlines
BISHOP
Thomas. Send Rosalyn to sit with Charlie. Then met me in my office. I mind-linked my Beta as I awkwardly opened the bedroom door. My unconscious Luna in my arms. I laid her gently on our bed. I hurried to the bathroom and ran a cloth under water. I rushed back to her side and gently washed the traces of blood off her forearm. I hadn't seen what she'd done but if the crowds gasp was any indication it had been bad. There was no trace of the cut now. The only marks on her the thin white lines. I traced the one in her inner arm up to her elbow lightly with my fingertip. I felt angry all over again at the people who had harmed my mate.
Charlie sighed and her lids fluttered open. Her icy blue gaze was slightly clouded when they met mine. She gave me a small smile. "You should've told me what was going to happen Charlotte." I didn't realize how angry I was at her until I spoke. But I was angry. She could've told me how much it was going to hurt her. I never would have allowed it.
"Because you never would've allowed it." She said softly. Echoing my thoughts. The mind-link with the pack would take time to form. And our own personal one wouldn't happens until we were fully mated. Her eyes shut and she crinkled her forehead. Her hand rubbed at her temples. "Headache?" I was worried now. This female had me on a roller coaster of emotions. She nodded her head.
"Lyra has been searching through memories. It's not a comfortable process." She sighed and sat up.
Kane. What are you doing? I, myself, had been bothered my a headache for a few days now.
I'm looking through things that need to be looked through. He answered before drifting away again. When there was a knock on the door, I said enter. Rosalyn and her mane of curly red hair stepped into the room. Smiling happily at her Luna. "You needed me Alpha?" She barely glanced at me before turning again to my mate and smiling still. I shook my head. Rosalyn had been waiting for my mate almost as long as I had. Thomas and she had known each other all their lives. When Thomas had recognized her as his mate he'd had to wait 6 months to claim her. He was older and had come of age first. It had be hell those 6 months.
I turned to Charlie. "Rosalyn is going to hang out with you while I attend a meeting." I kiss her gently and quickly exit the room. I wonder if she's of age? If she's talking with her wolf, mostly likely she was. You could communicate with your wolf before maturity but only feelings. Colors. Growls. Not talking though. That doesn't come till later. I took the stairs to my office and walked in. Both my Beta and Minerva were present. Minerva sat in a chair facing my desk and Thomas stood at attention beside the desk, facing the door. I walked to my chair and sat facing the old wolf. "What is it that you need to talk with me about Minerva?"
Her grey eyes looked slightly amused. "You are going to have your hands full my Alpha. Your mate is a very special wolf."
"She is my mate. I know this already." I state firmly. Charlotte is already so very special.
"No, Alpha she is more than that. More than Luna. She is the Protector." She stares as if I should know this. I haven't gotten back that far yet. Kane whispers to me. He has stopped his search to listen to this wolf speak. We both leaned forward. My eyes narrowed. "Protector of what?" I questioned. Minerva tilted her head and smiled slightly.
"The Protector. Of everything. She is life. She is justice. She is defense and retribution. Her birth was told of long before even my time." My eyes widened.
"Let me tell you a story," Minerva began, " long ago when the moon goodness first made werewolves it was to save the life of the man she loved. He was dying and she couldn't bare it. The alpha of her favorite wolf pack offered his life to save the man. He did not want to see his goddess hurt. But a human soul could not be traded for a wolf's. So to save her lover and to use what she was offered she bond the two souls together as one." I already knew this story but I let her continue even though I huffed slightly in frustration. Her eyes seemed to twinkle a little as if she were enjoying my frustration. "She bound them together so that the man could live. At first, the man remained in control. The wolf spirit lying quietly in his mind. Until one day when the man and the wolf felt a burning pain in their side. The man was confused but the wolf was not. His wolf mate had been injured. For the first time the wolf spirit over took the man and they shifted. The wolf was much larger and more powerful than he had been. But his coat was still the same brilliant, shimmering white. So the beast raced through the forest using his nose and instincts to find his mate. When he came open her she lay covered in blood on the forest floor. Her thick, black fur mated with her life force." I grew sad at this part of the story. My mother had told us the story of creation. Still, this part always made me sad. "She had been shot with an arrow. It had pierced her lung. Blood was slowly filling the organ. She was panting for breath. The alpha wolf was consumed with fear and grief at the condition of his mate. Being as one with the human soul the man felt this also. He did not want their mate to die. Both of the souls had not even noticed that they were no longer two but one. The same yet different. But the goddess had noticed. She had already spoken with a woman in a nearby village. Her lover and her may be done. But she knew that they would need love. Companionship. A partner they are equal too. Now though, she had to rush or lose the wolf soul that was slipping away. The young woman was not like the others in her village. She was the daughter of a common whore and as for a father well, no one knew. Some said a paying customer. Her mother said a man came to her in her dreams and placed her in her belly. The goddess knew that she was the daughter of her long dead brother. He had passed on his life to that of a child. Quickly, the goddess and woman approached the wolf and his dying mate. He growled softly and the goddess bound the woman's soul with the wolf mate. They were the first mated pair. Anora and Thane. They are the first." She finished.
"While I do love the sort of creation Minerva I already know it." I was getting more than a little frustrated now.
"I know that my dear. But what you don't know is that you and your mate are the reincarnation of the first and his mate." I was now truly shocked.
"No. That's impossible." I deny it. We knew reincarnation of souls could happen but it was very unheard of. So unheard of that no one had ever heard of it!
"I am the daughter of a witch and a werewolf. My father was a bastard of a man but he loved my mother. His mate. He loved me and my brothers. I was the only one with both the wolf and the witch traits. I know that you are. Why do you think I joined this pack?" I had always wondered about that. She didn't need a pack. She could live were ever she chose and no one would've cared. Instead she had left her home in Southern California to move here. Where it snowed 20 feet during the winter.
"I came here because I felt it the moment your mate was born. My great great grandmother predicted the rebirth of the queen. She was shone a vision of a young woman with thin scars and icy eyes that unite all creatures and ready them for the coming battle." I became very alert and narrowed my eyes. "What battle?" I demanded.
"The battle for our lives."
