⚜️2⚜️ - Someone Out There

Long fingers glided gently across the white piano keys as if wandering and seeking something. Jungkook's empty eyes stared at nothing as his fingers moved on their own, putting together a melancholic melody. The dream was already forgotten, but it wasn't at the same time. Its traces still stirring his heart.

Someone plopped down on the piano keys, making a cacophony of grating noises, and he flinched.

"Hey, Kookie," the girl purred, inviting him with her not-so-subtle sensual gaze as it slid down to his half exposed chest. "You play piano like a professional, it's so amazing. You're so good with your fingers." She leaned forward to his ear slowly, making sure his eyes captured the valleys between her chest before whispering, "You can play my body like this piano, too. See what notes I can hit."

Before her hand could make contact with his skin beneath his shirt, making shivers run down his spine, a sharp slap shocked everyone, making all heads turn to the professor.

"Miss Kim, I humbly request you to get up from this precious piano and remove your dirty skirt off the snow white keys," the music professor gritted out, wearing an obvious fake smile. "And take your flirting somewhere outside. The only flirting allowed in my class is with musical instruments."

"Excuse me?" The girl shot up and fixed her mini-skirt. "Miss Min, this skirt is Gucci."

"Just for your information, this piano costs more than your whole wardrobe," the professor sassed, leaving her scoffing in disbelief. "Everyone, if you don't respect school property, you are free to drop out. Less headache for me."

Jungkook watched the girl storm off while the others whispered among themselves, snickering and probably making fun of her getting scolded. He disliked when something like this happened, which was too often, but somehow, he enjoyed it. There was something about straightforward approaches like this that he was unconsciously seeking. Was it the attention? Was it the tension? He could never grasp what and why.

"Jeon."

He straightened up and looked at the professor with round eyes. "Yes, Miss Min?"

She could tell what he was thinking. She thought that maybe she was intuitive or could simply read people well or even psychic. She could have never guessed that the remnants of a past life were such a peculiar thing.

In her thirty years of living, she met Jungkook's type a handful of times, but put a distance between them for a good reason. 'Men can be such trash', she would think before drawing a line. A very necessary line.

"Jeon, please button up. You're not here to perform despacito or something, are you?"

"N-No, ma'am," he stammered and immediately fumbled with his buttons. "I'm sorry."

"Even if you don't unbutton, girls are lining up for you, don't worry," she joked and walked away.

"But I'm not trying to... girls..." His voice died out and a sigh followed. He just grew more comfortable with loose fitting clothes and showing skin as years passed by. He didn't have any other motives but it didn't translate well, he noted.

His phone vibrated in his pocket and he took it out to see a message.

"This cafe is so cute! Wanna hang out here when you're free?" A girl from one of his classes texted him with a link attached. Not long ago, she got his contact and now she was already inviting him for a subtle date.

His eyebrows drew together as he agonized over a simple message. It could be a simple hangout, but his past experiences told him otherwise. He wasn't looking for anything for now, growing tired of short-lived flings. He was craving for depth. Something like...

Like that dream, he suddenly remembered.

His heart skipped a beat.

"Class dismissed."

His head whipped up. Time flew by so fast when he tried to remember and feel the dream again. It was unfortunately long forgotten, just the memory that such an intense dream occurred.

And the purple hair under the stars.

Was it the girl's or his?

He wondered if he should dye his hair purple.

On his way out, his friend wrapped an arm around him, almost in a headlock, making him stumble and nearly crash into a girl who blushed and ran away when he apologized. Well, he did hug her from behind and wrap his arm around her waist on accident.

"What's this?! You're flirting right in front of my salad?" His friend, Jimin huffed in offense, even though he was the instigator.

"I wasn't flirting," Jungkook murmured tiredly and rolled his eyes. "I'm tired of something like that. Don't throw me towards anyone, please."

"Woah, why are you so sensitive today," he chuckled, wrapping his arm around Jungkook again and walked to their class together. "Did you get dumped or something?"

Jungkook threw a deadly glare at him and shoved his arm away before walking ahead.

"Okay okay, I get it!"

"No girl talk," the younger one snapped.

"Alright, no girls! Aww man, I wanted to talk about a blind date," Jimin muttered to himself and caught up to Jungkook. "Then there's school talk! Our department is holding a talent show slash competition, like those ones where the audience votes for their favorite performer and then they compete at the end! They asked me to participate but do you think I should? If I mess up, it might haunt me until I graduate."

Jungkook stared at him. "You should stop always looking for other people's approvals. Why don't you just enjoy this time? I really doubt you'll mess up though."

Jimin giggled, grinning from ear to ear. "Oh stop it. Please tell me more."

Jungkook cringed. "Okay, I hope you fail."

"You should join, too! I might attract people with my dance while you attract people with your voice. Bring up your piano and serenade the hell out of all the girls in the-"

"What did I say?!"

Jimin put up his hands in defense. He wasn't sure why his friend was angry enough to bite his head off with how he was behaving. "It was a joke. Joke, bro."

Jungkook turned away and Jimin eyed him closely. It was apparent that something was bothering him more lately but Jimin wondered if it was alright for him to probe into it.

"Did something happen with a girl? Or are you suddenly allergic to girls? You always seemed to be searching for someone or something when you're with girls," he admitted to which Jungkook sighed.

"I just..." He nibbled on his lower lip, pondering if he should voice it out loud, but he trusted him. If it was with Jimin, it wasn't difficult to express himself. "I don't know, is it stupid to seek something like a soulmate? I meet with someone who I think I can connect with, but it turns out to be my delusion every time. The more I seek someone like a soulmate, the more I think it's foolish."

Jimin smiled. "It's cheesy."

Jungkook frowned, about to regret saying it.

"But I do, too. There must be someone out there who's for me, but I might never meet them... But there's hope. I think everyone believes that, at some point in their life."

Jungkook stared at the ground in silence for a while, letting his words replay in his mind, before chuckling.

"You're cheesier than me."
