Chapter 1: Truth
P.O.V. [Name]
I smiled as I woke up, and began to get dressed. I had sent Leone a letter yesterday and had got one back from her. She was apparently near the capital and wanted to talk to me about my new job. I then heard the door open and turned to see general Esdeath looking at me.
"How can I assist you?" I asked I began to put on my shows.
"I have a mission for you tomorrow. Do you think you'll be able to attend?" She asked looking at me.
"I don't see why not. I have plans for today not tomorrow," I said looking at her. She looked at me a little surprised hearing this.
"Plans? Just what do you plan on doing today?" She asked looking at me.
"I'm going to visit my girlfriend," I said as I stood up. She smirked hearing this and looked at me.
"Is that so? I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you have a girlfriend. I just wasn't expecting it from where the others don't have any significant other, myself included," She said looking at me. I was a bit surprised to hear this and looked up at her.
"Really? What about that tournament a while ago? Wasn't the winner of that supposed to marry you or something?" I asked only half interested in her answer as I stood up. She may be my boss but I still have someone else in my life that I value much more than her.
"That was the plan but unfortunately he not only didn't return my feelings but was also a member of Night Raid. So not only did he betray me but also went to the enemies in the process," She said looking at me. I froze hearing this and turned to look at her.
"I'm sorry to hear that," I said looking at her. She sighed hearing this and looked at me.
"Don't be, after all I haven't given up yet. Because whether he likes it or not Tatsumi will be mine," She said with a sinister smile that honestly made me feel uneasy.
"If you're that determined I'm sure you'll get him," I said trying to hide how nervous I was. I'm glad Leone's not like that. She then smiled and looked at me.
"Thank you for you confidence and I wish you luck on your date," Esdeath said as she walked out of the room. I smiled hearing this and gave her a quick thanks you as she walked out of the door but I don't think she heard it.
I then walked out of the room and began to make my way out of the palace trying to take mental notes of where my room was so I didn't get lost when I came back. As I walked out of the palace I was greeted by a few guards but neither of them stood out so I continued to walk to where we had agreed to me.
I stared at the bar for a few minutes before sighing and walking into it. I feel like the only reason she comes here is just so she can beat whoever hits or her or have me beat whoever tries to grope her. I then took a random seat and waited for Leone to come into the building.
Several minutes passed before I heard someone walking over to me and turned to see Leone with a smile. She then sat next to with a smile. "Are you single?" She asked looking at me and I blushed slightly realizing that she was trying to flirt with me.
"No sorry I'm taken," I said looking at her. She pretended to be mad hearing this puffing her cheeks out slightly and looking at me.
"That's no fun, how come all the good looking ones are always taken," She said looking at me. I smiled hearing this and she did to and began to lean against me. "I've really missed you," She said looking at me.
"I've missed you too," I said as I began to hold her slightly. I can't remember the last time we had got to be this close to each other without her looking paranoid like she was afraid someone was following her. She then separated from me quickly and looked at me.
"So you'll be in the capital now huh? Not that I'm complaining it'll give us a lot more time together now. So let's talk about this new job of yours. I know you said you work in the palace now but that's a big step down from being a private assassin don't you think?" She asked looking at me.
"I agree, and when King told me without warning I was concerned to be honest. But now I can see why he did it. Anyway I'm apart of that special group that you hear people talk about from time to time. I'm now a member of the Jaegers," I said looking at her.
When I said this her smile dropped and she seemed shocked. I looked at her confused seeing her reaction and became a little concerned. "What's wrong?" I asked looking at her.
"You're a member of the Jaegers?" She asked looking at me and I nodded still a little confused as to why she wasn't happy. She then sighed hearing this and looked at me.
"There's something I have to tell you," She said looking at me and I looked at her a little confused.
"As you know my job like your former one involves me killing others. I thought it wouldn't have caused any conflict since from what I could tell you and your old teacher were freelancers. But now that you're a Jaeger I need to tell you the truth," She said looking at me.
"What is it?" I asked looking at her. She was quiet for a moment hearing this and looked at me a little nervous.
"I'm not sure how you're going to react and I don't have the right to ask you to not be mad at me keeping something like this from you for so long. I just hope that you'll forgive me," She said looking at me. I was more than concerned to hear this and looked at her.
Forgive her? Why would I need to forgive her? Did she lie to me about her job. My heart then dropped as I considered the worst option possible. Was she actually a prostitute? Had she been sleeping with other guys all this time and I wasn't aware of it.
I bit my lips ready for her confession and reached my hand up to gently cup her face. Even if she had been cheating on me all this time I . . . I still love her. "Leone, I'm ready and no matter what your choices I'm sure when can work things out. I'll always stand by you," I said looking at her. She smiled hearing this and began to nuzzle into my hand slightly.
She then slowly leaned forward and our lips met in a sweet tender kiss. When we separated she still had a sad smile on her beautiful face. "I'm a member of Night Raid," She said looking at me. I wasn't sure how to feel about this. Part of me was happy to hear this given my overreaction I had just had a moment ago and part of me was sad to hear this.
We were now enemies that would eventually have to fight each other. We'd most likely end up hurting each other without meaning to. She then looked at me waiting a response and I smiled. "Leone, even if we are enemies I want you to know. . . I'm not going to hurt you," I said looking at her.
She seemed a little surprised to hear this and looked at me. "I'd rather die than ever do anything to hurt you. Not to say that I want to die because I'm fairly certain that would also hurt you," I said looking at her trying to bring her some comfort and she smiled with some tears in her eyes.
"Yeah, me too," She said as she leaned forward and began to hug me. I could hear her muffled sobs in my chest and began to stroke the back of her head.
"I'm not sure what we're going to do but I'm sure we'll make it work," I said once again trying to bring her some comfort.
"I know what to do," Leone said in a muffled voice as she tried to calm herself down.
"You do?" I asked looking at her and she nodded as she rose up and looked at me.
"I'm going to leave Nightraid," She said looking at me and I widened my eyes in surprise hearing this.
"L-Leone are you sure I mean-" I began only for her to nod and place a finger to my lips.
"Yes I'm sure, yes I know what I'm doing, and yes I'm aware of the consequences," Leone said as she looked at me. "I'm not sure how long my fighting spirit would last without the reason I'm fighting. Not to mention that if one of my friends killed you I'd never be able to forgive them. I'd most likely attack them as soon as I found out," She said looking at me.
I looked at her surprised hearing this and she began to lean against more almost to the point to where we were cuddling. "I'd also be lying if I said I hadn't considering leaving before. We never got to be close like this because of what we did. Now I have the chance to be with you for more than just one hour a month. So I want to take it. It's fine if the others don't trust me I don't really care about them. As long as I have you I'll be able to deal with their stares of mistrust," She said looking at me.
I then wrapped my arms around her and began to hold her close. "Are you sure that's what you want?" I asked looking at her only to receive a nod.
"Okay, then I'll talk to Esdeath tonight and see what I can do," I said as looked down at her. She nodded hearing this and continued to let me hold her.
"How long do you plan to hold me like this?" She asked looking up at me.
"How long do you want me to hold you like this?" I asked looking at her. She was quiet for a moment hearing this and then a slight smile once again crossed her face.
"Until the bartender gets mad and kicks us out," She said looking at me. I smiled hearing this and nodded.
"Good, because I want to hold you for as long as possible," I said looking at her earning a slight smile in return.
