Part Nine
"UNIT, UNIT are you there?" asked Clara into her mobile. She was back on Earth and was currently trying to get hold of Kate Stewart. There was something she wanted from them and they were going to give it to her, willingly or not.
"Yes, Miss Clara", answered a voice on the phone. "What do you need assisting with?"
"The Cyber invasion of 2014, when you stormed the Nethersphere, you saved most of the people there, right?"
"Yes, we rescued all survivors of the Master's conversions. If you are looking for Rupert Pink, I am very sorry but his body was recovered soon afterwards in the Atlantic Ocean. We had to take measures to make sure any rogues didn't run loose. A cyberman under control is dangerous, a cyberman without any control is lethal".
"Where is his body currently being held?"
"It has been buried in St. Oswald's Church in Gloucestershire. We thought it only fitting to send him back to his birthplace and even more so that it shares a name with a person he loves".
"Send me the co-ordinates to my phone, could you Smith?"
"Of course Miss Clara, they are on their way now. Is there anything else you require?"
"No", she smiled. "No there isn't".
Back in the TARDIS, Missy was prancing around the console, flipping switches as she went and giggling as the Doctor flipped them back. "Come on love. Let's go see a planet, I promise not to blow it up", she lilted. He smiled, his magnificently expressive eyebrows disappearing further up his forehead. "Fine", he answered, half in some dreamworld.
"Hello. No 'you must live by the rules of time. Time will tell, it always does'. Where's the reluctance Doctor? And since when did you trust someone who has served so much bloodshed she wears the title of Queen of Evil? Ah, Clara Oswald has changed you man... She's made you a pushover".
"Who said anything about Clara?"
"Well since she's your bezzie mate, I would have thought she would have had some influence over you".
"And I'm guessing that you wanted that to happen?"
"Me?" she said, spinning about on her heels. "Why in the world would I do that?"
"To make me take down my defences. To make me kind".
"Doctor, you've been kind ever since you were a little girl".
"One regeneration Koschei! One regeneration as a girl and you got to haunt me with it don't ya". Missy chuckled under her breath and pictured the Doctor as a young girl. It only lasted about four days until he forced regeneration to turn back into a man. An oldish man at that too, but he always considered that one the first of his regenerations.
"You were a very pretty girl".
"Yes, the pigtails seemed to make the whole thing better". Missy hopped towards him and put her arms around him. He held her hands on his shoulders, then twisted around to look at her. She hung her arms around his neck and beamed at him, showing creases in her eyes.
"Ah Theta, what would I be without you?"
"I'm sure a better person than with me".
"Oh shut up, 'spaceman'"
"You shut up, 'Queen of evil'". They stayed like that for what seemed like ages, Missy occasionally nuzzling her brunette curls into his collarbone and the Doctor planting a small kiss on her forehead. Missy just wanted to stay there forever...
"I'm sorry Ma'am, you cannot enter the graveyard after hours. Please come back tomorrow", exclaimed the slightly annoyed voice of St. Oswald's graveyard's groundskeeper fighting Clara over the gate.
"I am with UNIT, agent Clara Oswald. I am here on behalf of Kate Lethbridge-Stewart. This ground is under surveillance and is under suspicion due to it being the origin of a major spawn of Cybermen. So, are you going to let me in or not?"
"No badge, no entry", he replied bluntly.
"Right then". She dug around in her jacket pocket and pulled out the Doctor's psychic paper. The best thing about being slightly less heightened than most woman was that you could steal things right from under people's noses and they wouldn't notice.
"Oh I am so sorry Ma'am. Please come right in. A-and here's the key, please stay as long as you want, but lock up when you are finished". Clara didn't know what he saw on the psychic paper, but he seemed utter terrified. She didn't care; her plan was now starting to take shape.
