Run - Part Thirteen

Once again the TARDIS landed, but not on some alien planet or some distant time away, but in a graveyard, a graveyard in Gloucestershire. Missy and the Doctor stepped out its doors, leaving behind Ashildr who was telling Donna stories of her Viking village. She had seemed to have taken to the idea of Missy being her mother, but who could argue with the fact that they were both heartless and compassionate at the same time. It could only be genetically passed down, a symptom of their psychic drumbeat shared by mother and daughter. A thick cloud of fog had come down the mountain nearby to settle on all the lifeless gravestones and a few flowers sat weeping at the feet of them. He saw nothing but a screen of white and grey in front of him, but after a few moments he managed to fathom out a woman looking away from him. The Doctor gestured over at Missy to be quiet, they weren't supposed to be there anyway; it was shut. She raised her eyebrows and turned her head to the side, smiling like a Cheshire cat.

"Oi!" she shouted so it echoed around, reverberating every stone in sight. Swiftly she jumped behind the TARDIS out of sight of the woman and the Doctor rolled his eyes. The woman turned around to reveal Clara. Her eyes were stained with mascara and tears rolled down her cheeks. The Doctor was sure that her eyes had increased in size and puppy-likeness. She ran over to him, sobbing quietly, then stopped just in front of him, only to fall onto her knees.

"I'm- I'm so- so sorry Doctor. I just missed him so much and, and-" she weeped. He pulled her up gently and looked over her shoulder to see a Cyberman marching towards them. Its faceplate was half falling off and behind it was an emotionless faced Danny Pink, very much alive with the outline of a Mire healthkit etched on his forehead.

"Clara, what have you done?" he enquired holding her by the shoulders lightly.

"Th-The healthkit. I used it on him".

"You do know that's not Danny Pink, that's a Cyberman. A fully converted Cyberman, without any restraint".

"He's not to me!" she yelled, getting agitated as the Cyberman came ever more closer. It held out its arm, its repulsor glowing a pale blue and without any reluctance fired it at the place they stood. A blue bolt hit the side of the TARDIS leaving a black burn mark just underneath the telephone hatch, which soon healed. Missy hopped away from it, then noticed it had also caught the right hand side of her floaty purple skirt. "For goodness sake", she thought, holding it in disgust. "I've only had this for a week and some damn Cyberman goes and burns it".

"Hazard of your job I would have thought", she heard in her head and then realised the Doctor was speaking to her telepathically.

"Get out of my head dear and deal with your emotionally unstable friend by there", she replied and nodded over to Clara, now pacing and murmuring to herself.

"What do I do Doctor? What do I do? I have to disable him, right?". Missy rolled her eyes and started to imagine Clara as some sort of parrot-puppy hybrid, yapping uncontrollably and flapping about. Without another thought, she pulled out her vaporiser device and pointed it at the Cyberman that was no more than a few metres away. It didn't stop and didn't react.

"No Missy, please, don't", the Doctor exclaimed, batting the device away, so it landed in the tufts of grass nearby. Suddenly there was an almighty fizz of electricity and they all turned to see the Cyberman with its hands up to its helmet. The Mire healthkit stood up more defined against his skin and tiny bolts of electricity seemed to fly from it.

"ERROR. ERROR. DALEK WEAPONRY IDENTIFIED", it called in a monotone way.

"Dalek?" asked Clara, stepping towards it.

"Yes, the Mire are distant relatives of the Daleks. They're not on any databases, so the Cybermen immediately think they're Dalek", Missy explained, stepping beside her. "So now it's trying to get the 'weapon' out of its system and it'll destroy itself in the process".

"Way to sugar coat it love", muttered the Doctor, stroking the place where the bolt had hit the TARDIS.

"Is there anyway we can stop it?" sobbed Clara.

"Yeah", she answered and, before anyone could stop her, grabbed the vaporiser from beside her and shot it at the Cyberman. It immediately disintegrated to the floor, leaving a small pile of dust, the Mire healthkit and Missy's Nethersphere bracelet. Clara's eyes widened, kneeling down beside it and plucking the healthkit from it. She passed it to the Doctor and reluctantly gave Missy her bracelet back.

"Clara, are you okay?" Missy asked, quite compassionately.

"My boyfriend has just been killed and he's never coming back now, so not really".

"He was already dead Clara, sorry to tell it so bluntly, but he was. He died a year ago, you saw him. I was just... cremating him".

"You killed him".

"Agree to disagree? For the Doctor's sake".

"Fine, but for his sake. Don't let him see the damage, eh?"
