Run - Part Seventeen

"Here goes", Missy murmured, looming over the Nethersphere with her finger on the Unlock button. "For the Doctor". Clara was sitting patiently for her 'Danny' above her and Missy had a sickening feeling of doubt sitting at the bottom of her stomach. With one elongated breath she pressed it and watched as the red lights started to dim. A smoky purple mist expelled from where they were and escaped to the corners of the TARDIS. She heard the doors open upstairs and heard the silent blackness of space fill with a wisping sound, like weeping willow blowing about in an Autumnal breeze. Swiftly she totted up the stairs in her black platform heels and saw outside what looked like an army of spirits. There must have been one, no two billion, maybe more all standing before her, the only light in the only blackness. They had hardly any facial features, all made up of the dusky violet smoke like clay figures. However they were all different, they had no eyes, no lips, nothing on their face, but she saw terrified races up against the thick mask of mist. Closest to the TARDIS were six spirits. Three of them were grouped closely together towards the end. One was much taller than the other two and looked over them as they held hands. The smoke wavered around her frizzy hair and Missy watched as it disappeared to reveal a cracked astronaut suit covering most of her body. "River", whispered the Doctor from behind Missy. "River, she...she can't be here. It's impossible".
"You've been on a ship with four impossibilities for a month Doctor, you should know that a word doesn't apply to me".
"What did you do?"
"I did what I always do Doctor. I did what I was told".
"You've created an impossible to defeat paradox. These people are never coming back Missy. You need to realise that".
"I never did it for me Doctor. Look at the people in front, look at them". Missy didn't look at the Doctor because she knew all she would see was disappointment across his face and Clara's smug smile.
"They're people. People who are going to be trapped here for eternity".
"Really? Let me tell you what I see. I see Amelia and Rory Williams, River Song, Petronella Osgood, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and the Doctor-Donna. Your friends Doctor, not mine". The Doctor looked closer at them, and the more he concentrated on them, the more he saw. Amy's auburn hair cutting through the purple, the Brigadier's pointed cap, Osgood's long scarf trailing at her feet.
"But this doesn't change anything Missy. They're dead. There's no way to get them back". Missy sighed heavily and looked back at him.
"Well you unappreciative sod".
