*Chapter 31: Sugar

It became night time by the time we left the haunted house. Nate was exhausted and breathing heavily from all that running. Because he ran in circles, we ended up in there for over an hour.

"You okay there, Nate?" I asked, patting his back to calm him down.

"There were so many zombies" he gasped his breath "All those ghost and bloody people" I giggled at his reaction "It's not funny!"

"No, I'm not laughing at you. It just made me happy that even if you were scared, you carried me through safety" I smiled "Thanks!" He calmed his breathing and stood straight.

"Oh. Uh... Sure" he rubbed his head "Want to get a bite to eat?"

"Sure!" I thought of something when he suggested that. I held the bottom of his jacket, stopping him from about to walk and look back at me looking shyly at my shoes "Nate... Could we maybe, um..."

"What is it? Another ride?" I shook my head.

"M-Maybe..." I played with my fingers nervously, getting too worked up to say this! I just want to make these moments with him count! "M-Maybe you can take me on a date?"

"Huh?" I quickly panicked and waved my hands.

"N-Not like that! L-Like p-practice with me!" He stared at me panicking "You can practice on me on how you want to pursue Rosa!"

"Oh! I get it" he held his chin "I guess that's no problem. You two look alike, so it would be easy to pretend" it felt like a sword went through my body when he said that. I was really hoping he wouldn't compare us like that, but what did I expect? "Okay, I'll try my best" his smile sparkled in my eyes "Thanks! Wait here and I'll bring us some food to eat" I nodded and watched him go to the food trucks after he send out his Samurott, who evolved from Dewott. This feels familiar.

"Don't worry, I won't do anything like tell someone to jump off a bridge" I told Samurott, who sweatdropped and kept its distance. I felt someone walk towards us and come to face me. I looked up confused and saw Elesa smiling down at me "Elesa!" I stood up to hug her.

"Oh! Hello to you too, Camie" she hugged me back before we let go "I see you're out with your boyfriend again" I waved my hands.

"Oh no, he's not my boyfriend"

"Oh, that's a shame. May I?" She asked for the seat beside me. We sat down together so we can talk "It's pretty obvious how much you like him, dear" I looked down.

"I make it that obvious?" She chuckled.

"Of course! But what I don't seem to understand is why you gave him dating advice" so she's been watching us. How did I not notice? "Do you think you're not good enough?" I looked at my knees, taking my time to find the right words.

"Nate is a great guy... He deserves someone he can be happy with. I can't provide that. The one he likes is my sister, not me... even if we're twins. We're nothing alike, so he doesn't like her based on looks. If that was the case, I'd have a shot... but that's not what this is about" I squeezed my knees "I can't provide him the happiness he deserves. I'll be leaving soon, so it won't make sense to tell him how I feel"

"Why are you leaving? If you told him how you feel, maybe you can sort something out"

"No... He deserves to be happy and not worry about me. You know that saying? If you love something... Let it go. I feel that through everything and everyone"

"But the saying goes on, saying: if they love you, they will come back. You can't leave without telling him how you feel"

"Should I..? I mean, would it be worth it? If I tell him, he would be worried about me and only think of how I was feeling this entire time. I don't want to put that kind of pressure on him when his mind is on my sister" Nate's Samurott stared at me "Hey, you have an amazing trainer. You think he deserves the best, right?" It nodded "I think so too. I care that the ones I care about are happy. It's not about me..." I looked down "It's never been about me. I made sure of that. I love teasing others and getting a reaction, but that's pretty much it. I'm not anything special. Nate will never see me more than just a job" Elesa looked up to see Nate coming up to us with a tray of food.

"What were you two talking about?" He handed me a box of nachos I happily took to eat. He looked at Samurott just nodding, showing that the conversation was fine. He sighed in relief and faced Elesa "Hey Elesa, would you like anything? I'll buy" Elesa smiled.

"Awe! Aren't you sweet? Maybe a caramel apple?" he nodded and raced off to get that "What a sweet boy. I'll never forget when he was so worried about you when you went missing" she elbowed me a bit "I think you should try to get him to fall for you. If you're going to suggest him to pretend you're your sister, try to get him to fall for you instead" she winked. I blushed, thinking that wouldn't be a bad idea, but I don't know "Thank you so much! You're a sweetheart!" Elesa smiled when Nate came back with the apple.

"Sure! It's the least I can do" Elesa stood up and pet my head, surprising me.

"Do your best. I'm rooting for you" I smiled and nodded, waving goodbye as she walked away after thanking Nate again for the apple. I ate my nachos and looked at Nate eating his churro bites.

"You know, Rosa wouldn't pick nachos" He almost choked and caught the bite in his hand "She's more of a sweet tooth, so a caramel apple would had been perfect. You didn't even ask what I wanted, but I like nachos, so you're okay" Nate looked down in defeat.

"I messed up, I guess" I giggled.

"Don't beat yourself up! She wouldn't beat you down to it. It's not like she'll expect you to guess what she wants to eat" he nodded and looked at my food "Want some?" I searched for the best chip to give him.

"What were you and Elesa talking about?"

"Nothing important. Right, Samurott?" I asked his Pokemon. It ignored me while Zorua popped it's head out of Nate's backpack "Here you go" I gave a nice coated chip to Nate. Nate noticed it and quickly took it in his mouth before the cheese could fall "Is it good?"

"Yeah" he licked his lips. I reached out to wipe away what he couldn't reach by the corner of his mouth and licked it off my fingers, basically taking a kiss he didn't give. His face went red immediately, which made me look at my plate with a blush of my own and ate without saying anything. I-I shouldn't have done that!

"Sorry..." We sat in silence the entire time until it was starting to get late "I think the park is closing soon. This pretend date probably should had started in the beginning" I stood up and threw away my plate "I think it's time we get a hotel room and get ready leave tomorrow" Nate nodded and threw away his plate after "oh!" I tugged on his jacket while pointing at a photo booth at a distance "Can we take a picture together?"

"Huh? Why-" I tugged on his hand so we can go into the booth together. It was a bit cramped, so I ended up having to lay my legs on his lap while getting the picture ready. Nate was stiff as a board, sitting there while waiting for the camera to start.

"Loosen up!" I laughed, wrapping my arms around his neck "You wouldn't want to be too stiff in front of Rosa. She'll take it as if you're not having a good time" he relaxed his body and got flashed by the camera. I laughed at his surprised face, making him laugh with me and finish taking the rest of the pictures regularly with smiles and funny faces.

"These are so cute!" I chuckled, looking at the results. Nate took a hold of the pictures to look at before ripping the paper in half to give to me. I took the ones with the smiles, funny faces, and resting on his shoulder while he kept the ones with the surprise face and laughing and me kissing his cheek with his surprise face.

"You can have those" he waved the ones he had "I'll keep these" I smiled with a blush, happy that he wanted to keep them.

The end of the day rolled by and this date was over. Nate and I got our own rooms for the night before we can travel some more tomorrow.

I laid in bed while staring at the pictures we took together, feeling a bubble in my heart building up with happiness as I looked at how fun Nate looked like he was having.

"It breaks my heart that I have to leave everyone behind" I got up to take out the rest of the pictures Hilda took and gave me "I don't have a choice... Nothing can convince me to not do this" I sighed "but..." I took out the dream catcher Nate's mom gave me "I wish something like this could help... these don't really work" I was about to hold it up to admire the decorations before someone knocked on my door. Lampent went over to unlock the door and open the door for Nate "Nate!" I sat on the edge of the bed "To who do I owe this honor?" I giggled.

"Hey, Cam. Sorry to come in at this time. I was wondering if you were asleep"

"No, I wasn't! How can I help you?" I tapped on my bed so he can sit next to me. He sighed and sat beside me.

"I wanted to probably get more advice" I nodded, thinking I should've seen this coming. Banette spat out some cotton candy she stole back in the amusement park so I can eat the whole thing without Nate saying anything, but I'm sure he'll be too occupied to really notice.

"Sure. What's up?" I asked, pulling on some cotton to eat while his eyes were glued to the floor.

"So there's the park, a picnic, the flower and gift... What do I talk about?"

"Talk about? Just talk about anything. Don't push it" I gave some cotton candy to Lampent and Oricorio on my headboard and gave a piece of Frillish in the bathroom. Nate didn't even look up to notice.

"Yeah, I know. I just don't want to mess up... It's all I've been thinking about. I don't want to seem off as nervous like in the picture we took" I held his shoulder.

"Well, if you really don't want to mess up, just do some nice gestures like open her door and hold her hand to help her down the stairs. Women like men who are confident" I hugged him from behind and took a bite off the cotton candy right in front of him "You're always so confident when we're together, so it shouldn't be too hard"

"Where did you get that cotton candy?" I giggled and hopped back on my bed to keep eating it "You're not supposed to have more sugar!" I waved the candy around to taunt him "Seriously, Cam. Give that to me!" He reached out to me, but missed when I stood on the bed and started jumping.

"Come and get me!" I laughed, eating more candy. He groaned and stood up to grab the candy away from me, losing reach when I jumped off and started running around the room.

"Cam!" Nate glared, chasing after me while I laughed hysterically.

"Not eating sugar or coffee wasn't my rule! It was so Looker doesn't have a hard time trying to keep me from doing this!" Nate groaned annoyed and kept on chasing after me for what felt like forever before he was able to pin me down on the floor. This made me laugh even more "Cut it out! People are sleeping!" He loud whispered.

"Sorry! Sorry! I'm just having a lot of fun" he let go and sat in front of me while I sat up to wipe away my tears.

"Don't tell me Rosa acts like this too" I calmed my laughing and looked at how serious he was about that question.

"Geez" I sighed and stood up "We were just having a fun time. Why did you have to ruin it by comparing me to her? Rosa and I are nothing alike, okay?" I crossed my arms, annoyed that the mood was ruined by something like that.

"T-That's not what I meant" he stood up after me "I was just curious-"

"You said you wouldn't compare Rosa and I, yet you basically did and have been doing so" I shook my head "When you do that, I feel sick to my stomach" how many times must I say it? I hate being compared to Rosa. She should be getting the spotlight. I shouldn't be compared to someone as amazing as her... It just makes her look bad "It hurts when you do that"

"Cam, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that! I was just curious because a lot of twins share some characteristics. I wanted to know what you shared" I nodded, getting it.

"That's so stereotypical. We hardly have anything in common. Sugar makes me hyper, while it makes Rosa tired. You should think the opposite when it comes to me and her" he nodded.

"Okay. I'll note that... I'm sorry" he took my hand and wiggled it a bit to lighten the mood "I don't want to compare you two. You are unique just like Rosa is. I won't think of you as anyone else" I nodded, keeping my eyes away "Come on, look at me" I pouted and peaked at him trying to make me smile by poking my stomach "You were just hyper not too long ago"

"And whose fault is that?" I huffed and walked away from him. Unexpectedly, my body was lifted into the air and dropped onto my bed, making me laugh at the sudden movement Nate caused "Hey!" I laughed with him laying with me on bed "That was fun" I laid on his chest, catching him off guard "These pass few months with you had been some of the funnest I've had. I finally got to travel like Melanie wanted. Soon enough, I'm going to complete this journey for her"

"Is this journey just for her?" I shrugged.

"Well, sort of... This has been about looking for Rosa as well, and that's all taken care of. I'm traveling to see what else is out there. I'm not only doing this for Melanie, but it's a big reason on why" he nodded and pet my head, letting me lay on his chest "I've hidden myself from people my entire childhood. I screamed at the sight of a stranger... You know how I said Rosa and I are opposites? I feel like she changed at the same time I did. I was shy while she was confident, and now I'm confident and she's shy. That's another reason why I think she should be the only twin. I take away from her character when I shouldn't"

"You don't seriously believe that's a thing. Your twin-, whatever it's called, -shouldn't define who you are. The two of you aren't that opposite. You know why?" I got up to look down at him "This may be the only time I'm going to compare you two, but you two are compassionate about other people and do whatever it takes to make them happy. I may never know what you've done or may never know, but you're a wonderful person" I sat up on the bed, facing away from him. Me? A wonderful person..? I can see where he's coming from, but he doesn't know... He doesn't know anything.

"Thank you, Nate. That means a lot" I forced a smile to him "I think I'm going to go to sleep now. I'll see you in the morning" he nodded and stood up to walk to the door. I looked back at the wall, thinking over what he told me.

"Goodnight, Cam" I nodded, not looking at him.

"Goodnight, Nate..." I looked at the dream catcher I placed on the nightstand, wishing something as pretty as that at could help solve my problems "Sweet dreams..."
