*Chapter 2: Home
"Sorry... How do you know that-" she gasped, staring at my face "Have we met?"
"We haven't personally met" I shrugged.
"What?" I turned away from the ocean and crossed my arms "Your face... Rosa?" I made my two fingers into an X.
"Not quite, but you got the right idea" the wind blew off my scarf, making my hair blow everywhere "oops" I laughed, pulling it down.
"Twins..?" I placed my finger on my lip to keep her quiet and managed to put my hair back in the scarf "Hilda never mentioned her cousin had a twin" Her jaw dropped.
"Amazing, isn't it?" I helped her close her jaw "but I'm nothing special"
"If you're Rosa's sister, why haven't I heard of you or personally met you?"
"Our parents divorced and I went with my dad and only visited during the summers"
"Summer? But Rosa comes to Nuvema Town to spent it with Hilda. You came too? I never seen you" I nodded.
"And it's none of your business why they haven't mentioned me" I winked as she blinked confused "There was a reason for it. Let's just say I had problems with strangers when I was young, so that's why you never met me, but I've met you... You just didn't notice"
"Oh... okay" she rubbed her hand a bit nervously. I tend to make people feel that way when they talk to me for a long time. I can't really help it, but I find it funny "So you never been in the public eye?" I shook my head "nobody knows about you?"
"I wouldn't say nobody, but I'm sure everyone forgot when I started staying home more often than what's healthy. My dream is to travel as much as I can. Even if I don't like the idea of change, I've changed a lot since I was a kid and look forward to going out there, with Looker's permission, of course" I started walking to the other side of the boat, sneaking away from Looker focused on his newspaper.
"That guy you were with?" Bianca followed me "I think I heard of that name" she patted her chin with her finger "isn't he a famous international police? Why are you two together?" I stopped walking, staring at nothing in particular. My sudden pause made her get the chills and gulp nervously. I looked at her, slowly starting to get excited , and smirked.
"No reason in particular. You can just say we work together" I peaked behind Bianca to see Looker watching me from the corner. I smiled and walked away, humming while playing with the bloody handkerchief in my bag. It's been so long since being around people... Bianca is so sweet. With Looker watching me, there's only so much I can do. I look forward to what comes next.
The ship finally arrived at a unfamiliar city "This is Virbank?" I questioned when Looker drove me and Bianca out the ship and to the streets "It's so... different"
"That's what being away for years does" Looker said. Bianca leaned over to my seat.
"It's so lively!" She smiled "My friends and I didn't get the chance to come to this city only because there was always a lot of construction and the roads were unsafe. They built a place called Pokéstar studios, where Rosa goes and acts in her movies"
"To think my little rose is a movie star" I put my hands together and awed at the sky, imagining her in fancy clothes and walking on the red carpet.
"You should go there one day and try to become an actress! A lot of people are free to audition" Bianca said.
"Sounds like fun! I'd get to travel that way!" Looker cleared his throat when I said that. I stuck my tongue out and leaned back on the chair "It would be nice to travel with Rosa, but I had to hear it from a stranger with big hair and covered in paint that she's missing"
"Oh, are you talking about the gym leader, Burgh?" I looked back at Bianca "I'm sorry you had to find out so suddenly. How did you not know when you were in sinnoh?" I smiled.
"Poor connections, you can say" I sighed, trying not to freak out "My beloved sister... I felt like she changed since I've been away. Tell me, what is she like now?" Bianca frowned before speaking.
"She's really nice and cares about everyone. From our childhood, I remember she was so bright and loved running everywhere and meeting new people, but now she's sort of shy and quiet" I gripped on the door handle and bit my lips so hard that they drew blood.
"Ow.." I softly touched them.
"Are you okay?" I looked down and put my attention back on the road, ignoring her. My sister... bright and confident... became shy and quiet? That... that made my heart ache.
My anxiety quietly raced through my body, afraid of what might have happened to her. I wondered if I was the reason for it, or was life different for her after I disappeared without anyone telling her where I went?
"I can only imagine what they felt after I left..." I leaned my head back, ignoring whatever was running down my face while playing with the bloody handkerchief in my hand. I knew Looker noticed, but he didn't say anything and drove us out the city, finally.
The road became quiet after what was discussed earlier, and I'm glad it was kept that way. My mind stayed in imagining the songs I had in my music player, trying to get over what was making my body shake
"We're here" Looker told me. I looked out the window as he and Bianca climbed out the car. I stayed in, seeing another change I hated seeing.
"Things change too much..." I sighed, hating it. This place brought back a lot of memories, but it was the little new things that bothered me. I guess some things can change for the better, but sometimes things are better off the same. I might have changed, and my sister had changed, but it's something no one can control, like what Looker said, but I still hated it.
I finally climbed out the car and looked up at a Pokémon trainer school I remember to be abandoned when we were kids... now it's nicely painted and open to students.
"What are we doing here?" I asked, hiding how annoyed I was.
"My agents tracked down where your mom is" I looked at him surprised before looking back at the building.
"She works at a school? Isn't it Saturday? Why is she here?" I scratched the back of my hand, since I couldn't play with the handkerchief in front of Bianca taking a phone call.
"You alright?" Looker asked me. I didn't answer, feeling uneasy "You can take your time"
"I ordered you to never tell my mom what I've done... but to never tell her where I went and when? I feel like I have no right to face her"
"You did order us to not tell her what you did, I remembered that, but we had to tell her you'll be away. It's not like she thought your were missing"
"It doesn't make it any better... being away with no reason given, it's pretty much the same thing. Now with Rosa missing, how is she managing?" I looked up at the school "How is she still working?"
"People are stronger than you think, and others may just be good at hiding how they feel" I licked the lips I bit so hard "Once she sees you, she should release some stress. You should hug her when you see her" I snorted amused.
"I'm not heartless, Looker" he snorted "I might have made it seem that way, but I do care about other people, especially my own family" I looked down "I just hope she doesn't hate me" Bianca got off the phone and smiled, coming up to me.
"Thanks for bringing me all the way here! I would had walked the whole way to get here! My boyfriend is relieved that I thought to get a ride" she knocked on her forehead "I don't have money on me. I didn't even think of getting a ride, so thank you so much!" She bowed deeply to Looker.
"Don't mention it" Looker smiled. I smiled at his rare smile and felt Bianca take my hand. Huh?
"Cheren just got out of a meeting with the other teachers"
"Oh? Is that why we're here on a Saturday?" She nodded happily and pulled me into the building to lead me through the clean hallway I remember seeing dirty and broken as a kid when Rosa asked me to come here in her place when the local boys dared her to come inside. They thought something like a abandoned building was scary, but it wasn't at the slightest.
I practically grew up watching scary movies and reading horror books, loving the trill and the jump scares that made me fearless. Nothing can really scare me, but the thought of seeing my mom after leaving for no reason in her mind is pretty scary to think about. My heart was racing again, hard.
We stopped by an area where people were walking towards the exit with a large binder in hand, talking amongst themselves and not even noticing us. I lowered my scarf slowly, seeing the last two people walking out the office while talking and having a laugh together. My heart was beating so fast that my eyes started burning and my stomach started to hurt.
"I think I'm going to throw up..." I whispered. Bianca smiled and waved to them.
"Cheren! Aunt Nancy!" She called out. Cheren and my mother looked at Bianca confused and immediately looked at the person beside her. Mother gasped and dropped her binder, looking horrified at my direction.
"M-Mother..." I gulped. Her eyes were wide in shock, frozen on the spot.
"Mother? You're so formal" Bianca slapped my back "Go give your mom a hug!" I tripped a bit and looked up at mother staring down at me with her mouth cupped, streaming tears down her face.
"Mother..." I took a deep breath "I-I'm sorry I've been away for so long" I looked around "you probably don't remember me, but I'm not Rosa... I'm-" her body quickly laid on me and wrapped her arms around me, sobbing into my ear.
"Camilla!" I gasped, shaking my hands to grab the back of her shirt, not expecting her to jump on me so quickly or even remember me.
"Mother" my eyes burned and became blurry.
"Camilla! Oh my Arceus!" She let go to look at my face, sobbing out of control. She looked so normal before when she was laughing with Cheren, now she looked like she was broken. What have I done..?
"I-Im sorry for leaving..." My voice was shaking "I'm sorry..." I shut my eyes, feeling tears waterfall out my eyes "I'm sorry..."
"My little girl..." she played with my hair and looked at the pink ends "You dyed your hair?" I chuckled and wiped my face.
"Yeah, after I went off to where I needed to go"
"Where did you go?" She moved my hair from my forehead.
"That's classified information, ma'am" Looker stepped up
"You take my little girl away from me for five years and you won't even tell me why?!" She glared, looking like she was about to hit him "You said this was her dad's decision to send her away, but what about me?! I'm also her parent!"
I alone was able to convince the police force to not tell anything to my mother about where I'll be going or what I did, and because I was so young, my mother was convinced that it was my dads idea that I'd be sent away without her permission, even if he was dead before everything happened.
"I'm sorry" Looker bowed to her "It's not my choice to tell you" I held my mother's shoulders and smiled for her, surprising her.
"It's okay, mother... I went to a good place. It was so much fun and I got to meet a lot of friends. I don't regret it at all!" I put my hands together "I... Might not had a say to this, but I was fine. I'm just glad you received my letters" she frowned and hugged me again, sobbing onto my shoulder. I sighed in relief and held her close, looking up to see Bianca crying as well and Cheren just staring confused. I'm sure he was just as confused as Bianca was earlier.
"To think Rosa had a twin sister" Cheren said, walking with us to the exit of the school. I carried moms binder that was filled with materials to teach students in summer classes.
"I know! Isn't it amazing!" Bianca said.
"Rosa and Camilla always went to their aunts house for summer vacation, but Camilla was never good with people outside her family, so I'm not surprised you didn't know her" Mother chuckled "She's changed a lot, clearly" she smiled at me. I smiled and pounded the binder on Looker's chest, making him groan surprise.
"Change isn't really the word. I'm a whole new person" mother looked at Looker confused before putting her smile back on.
"That's good to hear, I'm sure Rosa will be thrilled to see you" I put my hands together.
"I'm looking forward to it! Where is she?" Her expression dropped for a quick second before smiling again, hiding her emotion quite well like I witnessed earlier.
"She's on tour!" I blinked surprised, cupping my mouth a bit. Did she just... lie to me? "No need to worry, dear! I'm sure she'll come back home eventually" she took the binder from Looker and walked at a random direction "home is this way" she smiled, hiding her feelings too well
"I hate liars..." I mumbled to myself.
"Camilla..." Bianca frowned "She probably just doesn't want you to worry. Relieve her stress for now and wait for her to tell you the truth" I sighed, understanding, and spotted mother walking to my childhood home I barely recognized. Even my home looked different...
"Unload my bags, will you?" I told Looker
"What am I, your servant?" I winked at him, knowing he'll do as I say, and faced Bianca and Cheren.
"It was nice meeting you in person this time. Sorry for never making myself noticeable after all these years" I smiled happily "I hope we can see each other again! I may ask you for some advice on maybe starting my own journey soon"
"Soon?" Bianca questioned. I pointed my thumb at my chest.
"I decided to look for Rosa on my own" Cheren and Bianca looked at each other surprised before nodding at me "And I would like to know more about the hero of Unova, if you have the time"
"Sure, I look forward to giving you information on what you want to know. When you're ready to set out on a journey, come by and we may have something that may help your adventure better" I clapped excitedly
"Yay! I'm so excited!" I waved and went to the car with Looker to grab some of my bags to take into my childhood home while my mother was on her way to help.
"What were you thinking, Camilla?" Looker groaned "You're not allowed to have a Pokémon. Don't you think for a second I'm going to allow you to go out there on your own. I don't have the time" I just smiled and handed a small bag so my mother can help as I took a larger bag that was almost bigger than me and followed her into the house, ignoring Looked completely.
I have so much planned... I want to make sure my mother is feeling secure enough before I leave on this journey. At first it was just a dream to travel, but now knowing that my sister is out there probably in trouble, I'm not going to just sit back and wait.
I'm not allowed to go anywhere without a guard with me or even allowed to have a Pokémon, but I'll work my way around it. After all, Looker doesn't even know I already have a Pokémon I've hid this whole time. I look forward to what comes next.
