*Chapter 16: Old Chateau
There were tons of Team Galactic grunts in the Valley Windworks building. I didn't want to waste any time, so I ran pass as many as I could while Les stayed behind to handle them on his own.
"I need to make sure nobody is hurt in this building" I said to my Pokemon "Once we find the employees and the little girl's father, I'll take care of who's responsible for this break in" I stopped running for some air "I'm talking like I'm an expert in Pokémon battles, but I can't just let that girl continue crying" I looked around for anything suspicious before looking at the tag in my hands that stopped flying once we arrived to the building "I'll make progress here, I hope" I put the tag away and continued on until I almost ran pass a room with the door wide open.
I peaked in the door and witnessed a Team Galactic grunt standing over a man sitting on his chair, looking scared while the girl threatened him with a knife in hand and a Purugly beside her. She was dressed differently than other grunts, so she must be a higher up.
"Hm?" She noticed me by the door and turned to me "What is this? An intruder? Why haven't the other grunts taken care of you?" Her voice was smooth and calm, not at all rough or forceful like the rest.
"You're calling me the intruder?" I held my hip "Geez, and I thought the other grunt's outfits were out of this world"
"So you got jokes" I smirked.
"Yeah. Pretty funny, huh?" I looked at the man looking at me "Are you the father of the little girl crying out there?" He gasped.
"My daughter! Is she safe?"
"Of course! The poor thing was crying for so long her eyes are red" I looked at the girl "Your team seem to make a lot of fuss everywhere. Is there a reason why you have to bother someone innocent for your own selfish desires?" The girl chuckled.
"What makes you think it's a selfish desire?"
"You holding that knife says a lot" she put the knife away to face me "Are you their boss?"
"I am one of their three commanders. My name is Mars"
"Pleasure to meet you. My name is Octavia" She held her chin and smiled, thinking about something"
"I see... The pleasure is all mine"
"You wouldn't happen to know where my sister is, do you?"
"Pardon?"
"Do you normally keep people captive like this?"
"Oh, no. I have no idea where your sister is. We don't bother with kidnappings either. I'm only keeping this man here for strictly business" she wasn't lying, which frustrated me "if we're done with this conversation, I would like to get back to what I was doing before you rudely interrupted me doing my role"
"Sorry to have done that, but I cannot let you go any further. You see, it's quite rude to hold someone by knifepoint. I'm afraid I won't be leaving until you leave that man alone"
"Or what?" She didn't look amused "We've been trying to create a new world that's better than this one... but people have show little understanding about what we do. You don't understand either, so you?"
"Afraid not" I shrugged.
"It's a little saddening..." she sighed and snapped her finger at her Pokémon. It came between us, ready for a fight. Buneary hopped in front of me and got ready for our battle. To think I'm okay with starting a battle after being done with one earlier today "let us let this determine our next step, shall we?" She said.
"If we must" Mar's Pokémon didn't put up much of a fight, but then again, my Pokémon are incredible!
"What the hell!?" Mars glared at me "How could I possibly lose to..?!" She mumbled to herself for a bit "I'm pretty upset about losing, but I can also honestly say I was impressed. I messed this one up, but it doesn't matter now. We got everything we need"
"Do you now?" I questioned. She walked up to me to walk pass me and stopped.
"I hope you find your sister. I don't know what made you think we have anything to do with her, but if she somehow works for a company that could be useful to us..."
"She's an idol; Dawn" she stared at my face before giggling
"I see the resemblance. I'm quite a fan, but I would had noticed someone like that around us. Hope you find her soon before you have the need to mess with us again" she flipped her short red hair and left. I sighed, knowing I have no reason to follow after her. Everything she said was true... I started questioning the tag, but then again, there's a chance the tags know something she doesn't.
"Thank you so much for helping me" The man who was held captive said "It's a Sunday, so I'm the only one in this building, thankfully. Nobody got hurt, I presume?" he questioned me with his eyes. I smiled and nodded.
"I'm alright. Thank you for your concern. Why were they here anyway?"
"They were saying they had to gather Pokémon and energy no matter what. It was for creating a new universe, or so they claimed" I made a face.
"That sounds more stupid than their outfits" I squeezed the ridge of my nose, getting a headache "If she was already going to leave, why did we even battle? I got a headache now"
"Bun!" Buneary cried out. I smiled and pet her head.
"I'm fine. Good job!" She smiled and embraced my touch.
"Papa!" The little girl from outside came running to hug the man, but jumped back immediately "Ew! You stink! Go take a shower!" Her father laughed at her remark while I looked back at Les coming over to me with a drop of blood on his cheek and his fist all messed up and bloody.
"What happened to you?" I asked, confused. He looked at his fist and opened and closed it a few times.
"Got into a little fight" I held my chin.
"You don't look hurt"
"The bastard started it by saying some shit"
"What he say? Did you fucking kill him?"
"Could've, but no" I don't know what to say to that.
"Thank you two for all you've done today" the man told us after he finished talking to his daughter "if I knew those grunts were going to come on the day we are close for the day, I wouldn't have come. They had me working like a Pokémon"
"I hope you'll be okay from now on. We must be going now" the family showed us to the door and waved goodbye to us as we left under the night sky. There was a full moon in the sky "The full moon is bright. It'll be nice to sleep underneath it tonight" I took out the wish tag from my pocket "Don't know how, but this helped us progress a lot. Not sure what the progression was, but today was eventful" I turned the tag around and gasped. Les looked over to see weird texts written on the back that wasn't there before "What does this say..?"
"It's written in Unown lettering"
"You know how to read it?" He nodded and observed the tag under the moonlight.
"Progression" I cupped my mouth "Looks like it really wasn't a coincidence" I squealed excitedly and lifted the tag in the air.
"It really worked! I'm getting progress! Hopefully it'll help us the next time we need it! Actually... show us progress!" The tag slipped out my hands and flew off somewhere. I hurried after it for a long while until my legs couldn't take it anymore. The area we ran to started building up clouds and rain on us, making the tag drop before it could lead us any further.
"Looks like we should just stop and look for some shelter" Les said, having his Chingling over our heads to use it's power as an umbrella. He was more dry than I was since I was running ahead of him "The map from earlier showed us that the nearest city is about a few weeks away, so we'll need to work around this rain or wait for it to stop" I sighed and hugged myself, feeling cold "There's a forest close by. There will be a lot of trees to help avoid the rain. Come on" he took my hand with his bloody one and walked ahead. I stared at his hand dripping blood on me and the grass.
"Les, we need to get that treated" he stopped and looked at his red hand "Chingling is keeping us dry, so let's find a spot to sit so I can help clean your wounds" I took his good hand and looked for a good place to stay for the night. We ended up finding an abandoned house on the outskirts of the forest.
"It's not the best place for shelter, but it's a whole lot better than staying out there" I gulped and shivered from the cold. Banette tossed a towel at Les to give to me with his clean hand "Oh... thanks" I removed the droplets from my skin and removed my scarf to dry my soaked hair. I peaked at Les sitting down on a chair, so I went over to help clean his wound for him.
"Luckily I got us a really good first aid kit" I said.
"You got one that's bigger than what paramedics use" I chuckled.
"Well, it's better than nothing. I have everything I need to help clean your wound" I cleaned the blood off since the bleeding already stopped earlier "You can still move it, so I don't think it's broken. Still, let's go to the Pokémon center as soon as possible" I sighed "My friends thought me so many things that I'm starting to wish they taught me how to use this stuff" I looked at all the confusing things in the kit "luckily there's instructions" I disinfected the wounds and peaked at Les looking around "are you not going to ask?"
"What? Your hair?" I nodded "It's wet"
"Are you blind?!" I squeezed his hand, though he didn't react to any pain "I clearly look like Platina!"
"I mean, you are sisters"
"Are you serious?!" He sighed.
"What do you expect me to say? As far as I know, I'm the only one out of Platina's friend group that knows she has a twin sister" I froze.
"She told you?" He looked away "So that's why you didn't react when you first removed my scarf" I looked at his hand "I wondered about that... Were you shocked when you first met me?"
"I didn't care at first because my first impression of you was you going from scared to snooty in under a second" I sweat dropped "I misjudged you only because you threw all that money at those grunts like it was nothing" he moved to the side to sneeze "I was wrong to do that" I smiled a bit.
"Well, my first impression of you was you just being a judgmental and serious guy, but you sort of still are" I chuckled "But after the month I've been with you, you're not so bad. You're serious, but you always make sure I was in control, cover me when I'm scared, and even remind me to eat. You taught me a lot, and I really appreciate you for that. I'm sorry I haven't shown my gratitude"
"You don't have to"
"Were you and Platina close?" I sort of don't want him to answer that.
"Not really. I stayed to myself most of the time while Barry and Lucas befriended her when she first arrived. I have no reason to hang out with children"
"You know... You're only three years older"
"I stand corrected" I covered his hand with bandages and tightened the wraps "I might've hacked into some systems to figure out where she came from since she hid her family often" he admit "That's how I found out, but it didn't matter at the time. I always watched her look so alone, even with her friends. Sometimes I find her staring at the mirror, probably to remember you" I frowned "There was a time she told us she was going to visit her family somewhere, and came back sooner than expected. She locked herself in her room, from what your aunt told Barry and Lucas"
"Yeah..." I sighed "You probably have no idea how desperate I am in finding her. I want to show her that I'm no longer that woman's doll and can finally be with her again. I miss her so much" I took his hand "Thank you so much for coming with me. I would had been lost without you" he nodded. I noticed his cheeks were a bit pink and touched his forehead "You're a little warm" I looked around the mansion "Not as big as back home... but it'll do" I got up to look around.
"Did you seriously just say that?" I giggled at what he meant and helped him up the stairs.
"There must be a bedroom upstairs. I'll take out the beds so you can rest comfortably" he sighed "I don't think this place has any running water or anything, but I'm going to look around. Dress in something dry and I'll be back" Banette took out his bed when we found an empty bedroom for him to rest in. I left him to get dressed and traveled downstairs to explore for anything useful.
"It's an abandoned house, so I'm sure there must be a kitchen here somewhere. I need to cook something for Les"
"Ban?" Banette questioned me.
"I might not be the best cook, but I don't want him to come down with something. He's taken care of me while I'm sick, so it's the least I can do" I found a dining room and looked at the large table with shiny plates on it. The exterior was spotless and the floors looked like they were just polished "Does someone live here after all?" I scratched my head "Outside this dining room is a mess. Am I hallucinating?" Ignoring it for now, I moved to look for the kitchen, then heard footsteps behind me.
"Milady" I flinched and turned to an old man in a suit, greeting me with a bow. I completely faced him, not expecting to meet anyone here "It's a pleasure to see you again. Would you like to have a seat and enjoy a meal?"
"I'm sorry? Do I know you? I thought this place was abandoned"
"No, milady. We have been waiting years for you to come home" years..? "What would you like to eat? I'm sure your journey back home was a long one" I gulped, feeling a bit weirded out. I felt eyes all over me, but it was only us three.
"I would like something nutritious. My friend is sick..."
"You brought a friend. Of course! It is pouring outside. I am the only one here, so forgive me. It'll take me a moment to get things ready"
"Not at all! I have plenty of ingredients to cook with! I will help as best as I could!" He bowed to me.
"It'll be my pleasure to escort you" I nodded and hurried with him to the kitchen, which was as shiny as the dining room "We will be making Gataeu. It's very nutritious and will help your friend feel better" he showed me a cookbook on how to make it "I'm afraid I don't have any ingredients" I studied the book and got Banette to take out what we needed, as well as some soup I wanted to make. She looked at me worriedly before giving me what I needed.
"It's very convenient to have a Pokémon who can preserve food so it doesn't go bad" I chuckled and used the cookbook for the recipe to make soup. The man, or butler, knew the recipe for the Gateau by heart, so he let me use the book for reference.
"I should buy a cookbook of my own. I'm not much of a cook, since my friend does most of the cooking" I said, tasting the soup "Taste good!"
"You must be lucky to have a friend who takes care of you. That is why you're taking care of them, correct?" I blushed and looked down "What's the matter?"
"It's a bit strange... I lived in a place like this before, where I was created like a Princess. My mother ruined my childhood. She wouldn't ever let me go to the kitchen to do something like this" I smiled at the butler "You are very kind. Where are the family that lives here?"
"They left on a journey, but since you came back, I must fulfill my duty" I tilted my head confused "Tell me, you didn't get to grow up the way you wanted. Tell me about that..."
