Mumma's Day

Khushi frowned with her eyes closed. She could feel someone kissing her all over her face. First she thought it's Arnav who wants something obvious but as soon she recognized the small pecks of two set of lips, she smiled not opening her eyes. She enjoyed the love her twins were showering on her.

Arshi - Mummaaaa, wath (wake) up

Aarushi - And love me too

Khushi chuckled at her daughter's pleas and finally then opened her eyes turning to lay straight. She pulled both on her chest hugging them and kissed their lips before wishing them.

Khushi - Goodie goodie moning

She pouted mimicking them. They giggled sweetly as she rubbed her nose with their little ones'.

Khushi - Even though I love being woken up like this, how come you both are up so early?

She didn't wait for them to answer before turning her head to look up at clock that said it was already almost 10 O'Clock. And then she looked at her phone. Why didn't her alarm ring like it does everyday? She always wakes up at 7 O'Clock. After taking a shower she heats milk and puts the bottles into her sleeping daughters' mouths before joining the ladies at home temple. The twins usually wake up around 9 O'Clock so she gets time to help Payal and the Prakash brothers with breakfast before attending her cranky babies who after waking up need all of her time and attention.

Khushi - Hey DM! It is already ten! I missed puja and you both-

She got up to sit on the bed holding her toddlers and now noticed that they were bathed and dressed up. She looked around at missing Arnav.

Khushi - Did Daddy get you ready?

Arnav - Yes, he did. And their Anji Bua helped!

She smiled at Arnav as entered just then and moved further to sit beside on the bed.

Aarushi - Mumma, shee. Nu cothsh. (New clothes)

Aarushi pulled her mother's chin to make her look at them. Khushi eyed their full forms. She had gotten these Lehenga Cholis just recently for them. A pink one for Aarushi, because she literally doesn't wear any other color and a black one for Arshi who hates pink.

Khushi - My little babies, you are looking so beautiful. And so cute. And sweet. And adorable. Oh, you are just- come here!

Her eyes filled up seeing them in traditionals.

She was at loss of words to describe her feelings. The mother in her considered each and every word not doing any justice to the extent of beauty and cuteness of her toddlers.

She pulled them in a tight hug kissing their heads.

Arnav - Keep some tears for the full programme. This is just the beginning.

She frowned looking at him and twins parted smiling wide.

Arshi - Mumma, nu cothsh fo Mumma'sh Day.

She kept changing her sight from Arnav to her three years old daughters who crawled to the edge of the bed and rolled the trolley closer to Khushi.

There was a bouquet of roses in a vase on it, two covered plates, a card and a drawing block.

Khushi - What is going on?

She asked her husband who came over to help them.

Arshi - No no no.

Arshi - We give sh, sh...eh' shoup.

Arnav chuckled while Khushi just looked more confused than she already was.

Arnav - She means surprise.

Aarushi - Yesh.

Khushi laughed now looking at them both grinning. She excitedly anticipated the surprise now wondering what it was.

And they both picked up the big card and opened it together.

Arshi, Aarushi - Ta-daaaaaaa!

Khushi widened her mouth at the pop up card with a photo of hers holding them both on her chest shortly after their birth. It was framed in pop up flowers and Happy Mother's Day was written on it.

Arshi, Aarushi - Happy Mumma'sh Day.

She put her palm on her mouth as her eyes filled up. She had no idea it was mother's day today and was least accepting this wonderful surprise. But they weren't done yet.

Arshi - Shweet Jebi fo shweet Mumma.

Aarushi - Aaaand aloo puli. Not me Aalu (Aaru), aloo puli!

The parents laughed at Aarushi's pun as they uncovered the the two plates containing the respective things. Arnav was not only the one giving them cues, he was also assisting them. He tore a morsel of the puri and put some aloo sabzi in it to feed Khushi.

Arnav - And may I inform you, they helped Nani cook this for you.

Khushi - My little girls!

She was still chewing on the morsel when he next forwarded a Jalebi for her bite on.

Aarushi - Me too me too me too.

As soon Khushi took a bite Aarushi whose eyes were all the time on that Jalebi literally dragged his hand towards her mouth to eat the Jalebi.

Aarushi - Mmmmm shoooo tashty.

She licked her lips still chewing. Arnav gave Arshi a bite too before they moved on to pick up their drawing block.

Arshi - Oooooh nooooo. We foget. Shooo dumb!

She pointed to the roses bouquet which they were supposed to give at the very first. Aarushi smacked her forehead groaning in frustration.

Khushi - That's ok shona, don't touch them. Mumma knows these are for her. Thank you both so much. And you're not dumb, neither of you.

She leaned towards them for a kiss but they refused. They weren't done yet. They had one last surprise ready and most probably it was the best.

Arshi - We made thish. Fo you. Our besht Mumma. We love you shoooo much.

Arshi opened the drawing block and showed it to her mother. The very first page had a poor drawing of a woman in colorful clothes with long hair and a cape. Above it was written Jalebi Girl and we love you Mumma in childish handwriting. They were just three years old, so their drawing and writing skills were limited. She had taught them to write their full names but not more yet. So she knew her husband must have taught them to write the used phrases.

Aarushi - Thish ish Mumma, our shupah helo.

Arshi - She ish Jebi gal. Shee, Mumma and jebi.

Khushi knitted her brows together to look at the scribbling which looked like two balls but it turned out it was her hand holding a Jalebi. She admired the drawing and their idea. She was their superhero. There was nothing joyful than this information.

Arnav - This was all their idea. For real! And calling you Jalebi girl, even I didn't ever think of that.

She hugged the drawing smiling wide. Her eyes on the verge of tearing again. But this time she didn't hold them back and pulled her daughters into a super tight hug again. She kissed their whole faces just not wanting to ever let go. This was the best surprise ever given to her.

Khushi - I'm getting this framed and I'll hang it here in the room.

She withdrew finally and wiped her eyes looking at Arnav who smiled nodding at her.

Khushi - You both are the best babies in the world. Mumma loves you so much.

Arnav - Well, you are a great mother too. You aren't their superhero for nothing.

She caressed their faces smiling at them who were now comfortably sitting in her lap. She couldn't help but just adore them silently. They were looking too enchanting in the lehenga cholis.

While she sat there lost in her twins, Arnav gazed at her in wonder.

Arnav - I know I've said it before too but they couldn't have gotten any better mother than you. You are the best. And honestly, I even somewhere fear you as a mother. I wouldn't ever want to mess with you as a mother.

She looked up at him with her brows raised up in shock. He, the great ASR was scared of her?

Khushi - Ji? You, scared of me?

Arnav - I didn't say you. I said the mother in you.

She dropped her brows in confusion. Twins blinked at their Daddy, grinning. He was scared of their Mumma, and he better be.

Arnav - You remember the time I accidentally brought back the wrong twins?

Khushi - How can I ever forget that? Those five minutes were my nightmare!

*FLASHBACK*

It was the very first outing of Khushi with their almost four months old babies. They were in a mall for shopping. The twins were covered and sleeping peacefully in a pram. Khushi went to the lingerie section leaving her husband with their babies. In that while he purchased some cuddly toys for his little ones in the shop next to that and returned to Khushi who was out of the boutique now.

She bent forward to have a look at her twins. She couldn't just get enough of looking at them again and again. But to her horror, just as she pushed the hood back she saw completely some other babies. She widened her eyes and an immense anger built up inside her looking up at her husband. She straightened up trying not to lose her calm.

Khushi - Arnavji, where are my babies?

Arnav - What? Here they are, where else?

She flared her nose gritting her teeth at him before pushing them hood further.

Khushi - These. Are not. My babies! In fact they are not even girls, they are two boys!

He frowned and looked down at the two closely and now realized these weren't the kids they brought from the hospital.

Khushi took a step closer and looked at him straight in the eyes. To say she was enraged would be an underestimation.

Khushi - Where. Are. My. Babies?

He gulped at the view in front of him. In all the years he's known Khushi, never ever has he seen this scary image of her.

Arnav - I'...wait, I know.

He remembered there was a woman with the same pram in the toy shop. So holding the pram, he turned and went back inside the toys shop.

He released his stuck breath as he spotted the woman with the same pram still there. She hadn't noticed this exchange yet. He clarified it and got his daughters back. Khushi was outside the shop and the first thing she did as he came out was check on the babies and sighed in relief. It were her daughters.

*FLASHBACK ENDS*

Arnav - I swear, I saw fire in your eyes. I should have been worried for them, but seeing the level of your anger, I was so scared of you.

Khushi giggled hugging her twins closer and holding their tiny hands in her palms.

Khushi - And I swear, when I asked you where they are, I heard another voice come out of my uterus. It was so weird.

Arnav - I guess your uterus is as protective of them as you are.

She laughed nodding in denial at him. They twins silently watched their parents converse about them but couldn't somehow comprehend it. They just smiled wide as their Daddy came next to their Mumma on the bed and kissed her head lovingly.

Arnav - Happy Mother's Day, Mumma!

She kept her head on his shoulder enthusiastically but the possessive little ASRs in her lap turned to their father, clearly upset.

Arshi - Daddy, Mumma no your Mumma!

Aarushi - Only mah Mumma!

Arshi, shocked at her sister's statement formed her mouth in perfect 'O' like her mother does often.

Arshi - And mah Mumma!

Khushi looked at the two erupting volcanoes and thinned her lips in order to hold back her laughter.

Arnav - Ok fine. Keep your Mumma.

They flared their cute little red noses in affirmation before clinging to Khushi's neck. He smirked at them and touched their noses.

Arnav - You Mumma's little noses.

They pouted at him. Khushi hit her shoulder with his.

Khushi - Teasing me isn't enough ha, now my babies too?

Arnav - I can't help it. They inherited your tiny red nose.

Khushi - My nose is not red.

Arnav - But it's tiny!

She widened her mouth for again he got it. He does it every time! She flared her nose in fake anger and looked at her daughters.

Khushi - It's Mumma's day today na? So you'll do everything your Mumma asks?

They nodded sweetly with shining eyes. They can't wait to do whatever their mother wishes.

Khushi - Your Daddy is teasing us three. Let's teach him a lesson, ok?

They got off her lap, clapping and jumping on the bed for they knew what was coming. She put twins down after getting off the bed herself and then the three laughed and ran around the room chasing their Daddy who was having as much fun.
