A New Ally

The three kids met up in Legolas' room after dinner that night.

"Wow Legolas! You said you were bad at lying! You were brilliant!" Elladan exclaimed.

"It was easy actually, just focusing on the stuff we actually did and the details not the stuff we didn't do."

"Okay, great, but we still have a problem. " Elrohir said sullenly

"What?" Elladan and Legolas said simultaneously.

"We won't be able to get away with anything like that again. You heard Glorfy."

"Yeah," Legolas sighed. "I guess we'd better stop here. "

"Wait wait wait." Elladan said excitedly. "You said we couldn't do anything like that. We could still do small stuff!"

"Yea! Stuff that anyone could do!" Legolas exclaimed.

"No one would be the wiser!"

"Alright boys, who's first?"

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

The three elflings came chattering into the library and pretended to look at books, while studying their target--Lilithen.  She was sitting at a small desk, her long auburn hair, falling onto the pages so that she had to push it out of the way every few seconds, and copying books onto rolls of parchment.

"Hiya Lili!" Legolas said cheerily.

Lilithen glanced up, her warm hazel eyes smiled when they found the owner of the greeting. She turned to where Legolas was standing and said, "Hey little greenleaf. What do you fancy today?" While her back was turned Elladan quickly swiped her ink bottle from the table and stuffed it into his pocket.

"Oh nothing really, you guys looking for something in particular?" He replied looking at the twins.

They shook their heads, "I think we'll just browse for now."

Lilithen nodded, then turned back to her work. She paused for a moment and her eyes probed the desk, which now held only an open book, a roll of parchment and a pen, with no ink to be seen. "But that's funny, I had here just now." she whispered to herself.

"What's that?" Legolas queried. He was facing a bookcase and looking at all the books, Elrohir was searching in a shelf next to Lilithen's desk, and Elladan was reading a book in a corner nearby.

"Oh, I just seemed to have lost an ink bottle!" She replied.

"Did you drop it?"

Lilithen ducked under the desk to look, and Elladan tosses Elrohir the bottle and he placed it on her desk.

"Nope not there." She said as she came up from under the desk, she had not seen any of the tossing of ink bottle.

At this Legolas turned around and snickered. "You mean that ink bottle, there?" he said pointing to the newly placed bottle on the desk.

"Wha- Oh!" her hazel eyes widened in surprise and she looked completely flustered. Legolas burst out laughing. Elladan and Elrohir hid laughs in their hands. "Oh I swear it wasn't on the desk a moment ago!"

"Okay Lili, we'll get outa your hair now, it seems you could use the space to relax. You work too much, that much stress, I'm surprised the whole desk hasn't vanished!"

The elflings left laughing, and she scowled at them and sent them a half-hearted glare.

When they got out in the hall they yelled and high-fived.

"That was brilliant!" Elrohir exclaimed.

"Yea, but we're only getting started."

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

the boys were outside and Legolas was trying to persuade a squirrel to do a task for them.

"Please!" He said exasperatedly, they had been at it for over ten minutes. The squirrel refused to jump off of the branch onto Legolas' outstretched hand. "Come on! " He stamped a little foot in indignation. "You did it just yesterday!"

A little chuckle came from the grove a little ways behind them. "And what are you little ones doing?" A female voice said.

"We're trying to get this squirrel to do something for us!" Legolas yelled over his shoulder.

"Well that squirrel won't come with you yelling at it like that." she said firmly.

Legolas sighed then stepped away from the tree. He looked up at  Arasinya. She was tall, with long waist-length brown hair tied up with the warrior braids. She had bright green eyes that were happy, and alive. She wore a practical tunic and leggings, made to be durable and for running. A yew bow and quiver was strapped to her back.

"Back already from the border patrol?" Legolas asked.

"All quiet, I was just on my way to report to your father." She said smiling, "But Legolas have you forgotten your manners? You have not yet introduced me to your young friends!"

"Oh yea, This is Elladan and Elrohir," He said. The twins smiled at her and waved. "They came from Imladris, they're the sons of Elrond."

"Oh yes, I've heard about you boys," Arasinya said raising an eyebrow. Her eyes had a spark of mischief in them. "Twins are quite rare in the elvish bloodline." She turned back to the squirrel perched precariously on a thin branch. "now, tell me what you want this little guy to do?"

"Weeellll," Elrohir began, "we wanted him to just jump in a window--"

"Run around a bit, take something, then jump back out."Elladan finished.

The elleth smiled then turned to Legolas. "This window, it wouldn't happen to be Ainion's window would it?"

Legolas looked guiltily at the floor then burst out, "Please don't tell my ada!!"

Arasinya's laugh was bright and clear. "You forget, penneth, that Ainion has lived for a long, long time. He was once the cause for many of my tedious afternoons as well,  hunched over books and writings. He was the tutor to almost all of the Lords and Lady's children, which includes me." She grinned at them and they grinned back. "Now I really must go and report, or the king will send a scout looking for me and my company. How 'bout we rendezvous at the water fountain in your mother's favorite willow grove tonight?" She flashed them a smile, then turned and walked off towards the palace.

The elflings turned and beamed at each other. They had found themselves an ally. This prank was going to be great with Arasinya's help! It wasn't too outlandish though, no one would suspect a thing. It couldn't get better than this! There was only one problem that Elrohir pointed out.

"Do either or you know what renu-rende...vus means?"
